– MatriX recognized as the top achiever in the AXI Market

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — MatriX Technologies GmbH (MatriX), a German-based supplier of industrial X-ray inspection equipment, was acknowledged as the market leader in the worldwide SMT AXI market (Automated X-Ray Inspection Equipment). Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting organization, identified the top players in the SMT AXI equipment market. MatriX was recognized as the top achiever in the AXI Market award category, which demonstrates excellent qualities in meeting the increasing demands and requirements of clients in the electronics assembly industry market. Frost & Sullivan has based its study on five main criteria: growth strategy, growth implementation, degree of innovation, customer value and market penetration. Throughout all criteria, MatriX has demonstrated its continuous and dedicated efforts toward technology innovation to support the growth of the entire AXI market. The company also outperformed in its practices across functional disciplines such as after-sales support and training.

According to Frost & Sullivan’s 360-degree analysis, MatriX’s integrated growth and innovation strategy is groundbreaking; during 2012-2013, the company built up a manufacturing partnership in Singapore and opened subsidiaries in China, Singapore and Japan in order to position its engineering and support teams close to its customer base to ensure short delivery and response times. Additionally, and by acquiring FocalSpot Inc. San Diego (now operating as MatriX-FocalSpot Inc.), the company is well-positioned to increase its North American market share via this new sales platform for its existing AXI series. Furthermore, the company extended its product range by a manual and semi-automated X-ray inspection equipment product line (XT-series) during 2013, becoming an integrated supplier from entry-level MXI to high-end integrated AXI solutions.

By translating customer feedback into R&D and steadily seeking innovations, MatriX’s experienced engineers continue to set X-ray inspection standards and achieve the best solutions to increase their customers’ inspection quality and production efficiency with a solid return on investment. Smooth software interfaces and flexible hardware enable perfect integration into the customers’ production line. Continuous service, trainings and updates, as well as production integration support, ensure the most effective inspection strategy at any time.

“With these constant technology innovations and upgrades, the company has been successful in obtaining a clientele with global manufacturing sites, which, in turn, increases installation rates,” noted Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Lavanya Rammohan. “Attention to detail and delivering superior-quality products will strengthen its bid for greater market penetration and reinforce its position in the SMT AXI market.”

– Industry innovators convene at the 10th annual Manufacturing Leadership Summit

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — From digital design, to fashion- how are these factors going to change the manufacturing industry in 2030? The 2014 Manufacturing Leadership Summit (ML Summit) (http://mlsummit.com), hosted by the Manufacturing Leadership Council of Frost & Sullivan, will bring together leadership teams from all sectors of manufacturing to explore the most urgent issues and emerging opportunities facing the manufacturing industry today. The ML Summit will take place June 3 to 5, 2014 at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Fla.

“It all starts with being able to visualize the future,” said Heather Holst-Knudsen, president of the Manufacturing Leadership Council. “Disruptive innovations are as demanding as new sets of rules about how we lead, organize, operate and manage our teams and companies. The ML Summit program is designed to focus on the strategies of tomorrow—in an environment designed to enable collaboration with others who are committed to the future of our industry.”

ML Summit speakers include:

Anne Filson and Gary Rohrbacher, Co-founders, AtFAB: Architectural designers Filson and Rohrbacher will reveal how the confluence of advanced digital design, computer-aided fabrication tools and global “maker” networks is inspiring a new generation of manufacturing innovators.
Dr. Aziz Asphahani, President and CEO, QuesTek Innovations LLC: Dr. Asphahani will cover the vast potential of integrated computational materials engineering and how innovation partnerships can accelerate the discovery and implementation of breakthrough materials.
Francis Bitonti, Principal and Founder of Francis Bitonti Studio: Bitonti uses a blend of computer-driven techniques and cutting edge manufacturing technologies to realize what has been called by the press “alien” objects and space. Bitonti will show how the integration of new technologies in computational design, construction, and manufacturing is defining the future of luxury design.
Ralph Resnick, President and Executive Director of the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), and Founder and Director, America Makes: The founding director of America Makes will update delegates on the progress of the first of the technology “accelerators” charged with revitalizing manufacturing competitiveness in the U.S.
Dr. Stephen Hoover, CEO, Palo Alto Research Center (PARC): Dr. Hoover will discuss the trends that promise to radically change the design process and the way things are built, as well as alter the way entrepreneurial manufacturers access funding and spur innovation.

Additionally, there will be a panel moderated by Allison Grealis, Director, Women in Manufacturing, Precision Metalforming Association, titled, “Beyond Gender: Women in Leadership Roles.” As manufacturers struggle to find people with the right skills to assume leadership roles in their organizations, there is an under-utilized source to help fill the requirements – women. Panelists will discuss what factors may be holding back women from assuming key positions, advancement opportunities now available, and what organizations can do to change the equation.

Panelists will include:

Karla Aaron, President, Haileah Metal Spinning, Inc.
Tami Gilbert, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Trinity Industries, Inc.
Tonya H. Jackson, Vice President, Global Supply Chain Operations, Lexmark International, Inc.
Cindy Reese, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Operations, Oracle Corp.
Susan Welsh, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rubadue Wire

Expert presentations will also address how cloud and big data related to mobile and social, will play out in manufacturing and whether “reshoring” is a critical long-term trend or a temporary phenomenon.

The ML Summit program concludes on June 5th with the presentation and celebration of the Manufacturing Leadership Awards honoring companies and executives who are shaping the future of global manufacturing with breakthrough projects and outstanding individual achievement.

The Summit will be supported by 25 manufacturing solutions providers, including 3D printing, enterprise mobility, cloud computing, ERP, PLM, MES, MOM, big data/analytics, economic development, business strategy consulting, lean manufacturing, collaboration solutions and more.

leave a comment »

— International NFC Alliance to promote convenient cross-border mobile NFC services

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Asian telecom operators Chunghwa Telecom (Taiwan), HKT (Hong Kong), KDDI (Japan), and SK Planet (South Korea) are jointly announcing the formation of the Asia NFC Alliance, with the support of the GSMA, today at MWC 2014. The Alliance aims to extend existing NFC services beyond national borders to further accelerate the adoption of convenient and compatible NFC services worldwide.

KDDI, Chunghwa Telecom, HKT, SK Planet (from second left to right) jointly announced Asia NFC Alliance in order to provide a cross-border NFC service, with a collaboration with GSMA (the left one).
KDDI, Chunghwa Telecom, HKT, SK Planet (from second left to right) jointly announced Asia NFC Alliance in order to provide a cross-border NFC service, with a collaboration with GSMA (the left one).

“Formation of this Alliance aims to expand the service coverage of individual telecom operators in creating a seamless experience for the consumers while travelling across national borders. As of today, Alliance members include the major telecom operators from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong. Our near-term goal is to promote common standards and a technology development platform for new applications, beginning with the domestic markets of our members. In the long term, we hope to expand this NFC Alliance into a global organization to create convenient services across borders worldwide,” said Lin, Kuo-Feng, Chairman of Asia NFC Alliance.

“The GSMA is delighted to support the Asia NFC Alliance, as it endeavors to accelerate the deployment of NFC services in Asia. Cross operator interoperability, and common platforms to easily develop and deploy services are key enablers to attract service providers and grow the NFC ecosystem. By working together with the Asia NFC Alliance, we hope to lay down a solid foundation for subscribers to experience a wealth of top quality NFC services across Asia – and to build best practice for other regions,” said Pierre Combelles, Business Lead, Digital Commerce, GSMA.

Convenient mobile NFC services are already being offered for a variety of applications in several countries independently, presenting travel information, online booking of tickets and hotels, coupon download, mobile payment and more. However, these NFC services are currently limited to mobile operators within their home markets. There has, however, recently been a joint cooperation between KDDI and CHT offering a smart poster service in tourist shopping areas, and NFC coupons from KDDI and SK Planet.

The Asia NFC Alliance wishes to expand the service coverage of these mobile operators from within a single country to the whole Asian region, and furthermore to provide global mobile NFC services across industries, including transportation, retail, finance, and tourism etc. Subscribers will be able to access convenient and compatible NFC applications across national borders to enjoy a mobile lifestyle on their NFC-enabled handsets, whether in Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea or other countries in the future.

The Asia NFC Alliance has proposed three-stage development goals: to develop international compatibility of NFC technology; to serve as an information platform for NFC development; and finally, to attract more members from the industry, to fulfil the ultimate goal of collaboration in providing a border-less mobile NFC service across industries.

Quotes from all members

“The founding of the Alliance is an important step forward in the development of cross-border NFC mobile services, bringing to our customers the greatest benefits while traveling aboard, as well as to visitors to Hong Kong.”

— Richard Midgett, Managing Director of Wireless Business
HKT

“We hope that this alliance will be an open organization for the expansion of overseas cooperation services. We aim to actively promote collaboration with telecommunications carriers not only in Asia but in Europe and America, and create a world in which users in every country can avail themselves of NFC services.”

— Takashi Tanaka, President
KDDI

“Many exciting services will launch with NFC Alliance. SK Planet will actively participate with Smart Touch (Open TSM) and Mobile Commerce Services.”

–JH Kah, CEO
SK Planet International

“Taiwanese and Asian consumers mostly have high acceptance in the latest technology, so mobile NFC applications have gained widespread attention and expectation in Asia markets. With the foundation of the Alliance, we will work collaboratively on the seamless and complete NFC experience from domestic area to Asia!”

–LIN, Kuo-Feng, President
Chunghwa Telecom Mobile Business Group

Frost & Sullivan: The Advanced Capabilities of VoIP and SIP Trunking Exceeds Traditional Voice Services

leave a comment »

– To stave off competition from hosted UC solutions, providers focus on user awareness and value-added services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The broad acceptance of Internet protocol (IP)-based communications within enterprises is fueling the North American voice over IP (VoIP) access and session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking market. The advanced capabilities VoIP and SIP trunking provide to customers over traditional voice services drive much of the uptake. Moving from a nascent stage to one of long-term growth, the market continues to experience intense competition and consolidation among participants.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, North American VoIP Access and SIP Trunking Services Market research, finds the market earned revenue of $2.83 billion in 2013 and estimates this to reach $9.35 billion in 2019. This analysis provides a market overview, drivers and restraints, forecasts and trends, market share and competitive analysis, and a last word of analyst predictions.

For complimentary access to more information on this research, please visit: http://bit.ly/1fRwxx5

“Businesses are transitioning from legacy private branch exchange systems to IP-based unified communications platforms, and as such, are looking to VoIP access and SIP trunking services to complement these new platforms,” said Frost & Sullivan Information and Communication Technologies Industry Analyst Michael Brandenburg (http://frost.com/MichaelBrandenburg). “Likewise, VoIP and SIP trunking offer business recovery and mobile features that are simply not available on more traditional telecommunications services.”

Nonetheless, hosted or cloud unified communications (UC) services offer a compelling alternative to on-premises UC platforms, effectively shutting VoIP access and SIP trunking services out of consideration in several North American firms. Moreover, lack of customer awareness on the benefits of IP-based trunking services remains a challenge for service providers.

With hosted UC solutions vying for the same customers as VoIP and SIP trunking services, offering a robust set of features and a commitment to simplified deployment and assured uptime will aid long-term market development in the region.

“Service providers need to provide a wide range of value-added services to attract customers while holding the line on pricing,” suggested Brandenburg. “Many customers are trying to decide whether to keep their communications platforms on-premises or move to the hosted model, and hence, service providers should leverage VoIP capabilities to deliver customer value, rather than continually battle on price.”

Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Eddyfi with the 2014 Global Nondestructive Test Equipment Emerging Company of the Year Award

leave a comment »

– The company is leading a paradigm shift in the nondestructive testing market by developing high-performance, cost-effective products using the eddy current array technology.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Based on its recent analysis of the nondestructive test (NDT) equipment market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Eddyfi with the 2014 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Emerging Company of the Year. The company has experienced remarkable success by addressing an unmet need for customized products for applications rather than simply offering generic products that worked well only in certain applications.

In four years, Eddyfi has grown from a five-employee start-up to a 80-employee company by expanding its application scope beyond the surface inspections application segment for the power generation industry. Eddyfi is now also active in the steam generator segment and in many industries, including oil & gas – for both surface and tubing applications – mining, and aerospace.

The company invests 20 to 25 percent of its revenue in research and development, and dedicates approximately 40 percent of its staff to new product development. Over the past year, several distinct products that potentially redefine industry standards have been launched or are in the process of being finalized. The first is a new line of surface eddy current array probes that are not only physically flexible, providing adaptability to complex geometries, but also have multiple built-in modes offering flexibility in defect detection. The second is the DefHi probe, a line of high-definition multiplexed array probes for tubing applications. Other key products are solutions designed to solve complex challenges associated with ferrous materials: eddy current array probes for carbon steel welds and specialized tubing probes for air coolers are certainly good examples.

Eddyfi’s application-based solutions enhance customer productivity by fulfilling customers’ unaddressed needs. It employs a number of application engineers to offer technical support to customers. It opened offices in Lyon, France in September 2012 and will be in Houston, Texas, in the United States early 2014 to not only provide local technical support to customers, but also act as application centers that define Eddyfi’s future product development strategies.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated excellence in devising a strong growth strategy and robustly implementing it. The recipient has shown strength in terms of innovation in products and technologies, leadership in customer value, as well as speed in response to market needs. In short, the award looks at the emerging market players in the industry and recognizes their best practices that are positioned for future growth excellence.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.

About Eddyfi

Eddyfi is the most dynamic company in the field of non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment. It employs the world’s most renowned experts in the field of advanced eddy current testing. Eddyfi focuses on providing complete high-end solutions for the inspection of critical components in several major industries including nuclear, power generation, oil and gas, and aerospace. The company develops the industry’s best performing and most reliable test instruments, surface and tube probes, and acquisition and analysis software. Eddyfi has the expertise, engineering, and manufacturing flexibility to supply fully-integrated and specially-made solutions that make customers safer, more efficient and more profitable.

Smart City Market Anticipated to Create Huge Business Opportunities with a Total Market Value of $1.5 Trillion by 2020, states Frost & Sullivan

leave a comment »

– More than 26 cities globally will be smart cities in 2025 with more than 50 percent being in Europe and North America

MOSCOW, Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The continuous increase in the number of people living in urban areas is leading to a growing overpopulation problem in modern cities. This also causes social, political, energy and environmental instability. The so-called smart city concept has been developed to address all upcoming challenges by implementing modern infrastructure enabling “smart” and “intelligent” solutions and technologies in the cities of today.

Frost & Sullivan Sales Manager Maxim Perevezentsev recently gave a lecture outlining a Strategic Opportunity Analysis of the Global “Smart City” Market until 2025 at the Open University Skolkovo (OpUS) Winter School. Mr. Perevezentsev presented the company’s vision on the future development of urban areas, including a stakeholder analysis providing information on the total addressable smart city market size and smart city business models as well as funding mechanisms.

According to Frost & Sullivan smart cities are anticipated to create huge business opportunities across different industries with a total market value of $1.565 trillion by 2020. A smart city concept in this context encompasses a number of smart products which are characterized by an intelligent sensing technology that is increasingly being integrated with Internet technologies, thereby allowing the product to react to and communicate with the changing environment around it. This leads to optimal operations and improvement in efficiency.

“Frost & Sullivan’s visionary research group has identified and analyzed one of the significant Mega Trends, entitled “Smart is the New Green.” “Smart” as a value proposition has increasingly been replacing “Green” concepts,” Mr. Perevezentsev noted. The ‘smart city’ seen as a complex concept includes several basic parameters such as: smart energy, smart buildings, smart mobility, smart healthcare, smart infrastructure, smart technology, smart governance and smart education, and a smart citizen.

Smart energy for example is a future trend that ensures efficient, intelligent power consumption and management within an urban community. Global cities will only function through the installation of both a smart grid and a form of energy storage. The impact of energy storage in a smart city is expected to be felt most strongly in the US and Europe, followed by the APAC region.

Smart technology is another important parameter for the smart city development. Technologies such as smart metering, wireless sensor networks, open platforms, high-speed broadband and cloud computing are key building blocks of the smart city infrastructure. The deployment of new technologies for the creation of smart cities is gaining a strong momentum in Europe; this is accentuated by the numerous pilot projects running at regional, country and EU level.

Citizens’ mobility and traffic conditions are usually the biggest problems in today’s modern urban cities. Mobility projects including Intelligent Transport Systems (eco-navigation traffic signal control systems, parking guidance and information systems, efficient passing of intersections), charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, and traffic and travel Web-based services will help to improve traffic situation. Growing demands in environmentally friendly solutions will further benefit electric vehicles in the long term.

“Frost & Sullivan believes that the smart city concept is the future of every modern urbanized city. Every smart city has a unique number of features and characteristics as well as unique business opportunities. Companies in the smart city space will not only partner and converge among themselves to offer ‘smart’ capabilities but will also start converging with different participants in the ecosystem. This will open multiple growth opportunities across all industries,” Mr. Perevezentsev concluded.

“At Fenway” singer to record new CD produced by Narada Michael Walden

leave a comment »

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Brian Evans, who captured millions of fans across the world with his single “At Fenway,” which featured William Shatner as the home plate umpire in his YouTube video, followed by “I’m A Traveler” on YouTube, will record a new album in the studio with legendary producer Narada Michael Walden, known for his work with Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder. All of which have earned Walden numerous Grammy Awards. The “At Fenway” video has already surpassed 11.6 million views on YouTube in just the last several months, while “I’m A Traveler” has garnered more than 7 millions views…even with a music video accompanying the song on YouTube.

The new CD will be entitled “Brian Evans,” and will include eight original songs and five covers. The original songs will include “Croonerman,” “Creature,” and “Fast Car, Nascar,” a song dedicated to NASCAR fans.

Evans is also the co-writer of the forthcoming novel “Horrorscope,” which will be released in Kindle, hardcover, and audio book on March 15th. Walden has also signed on to produce the eventual soundtrack of any motion picture that occurs as a result of the fictional novel. The audio book is currently in production, and will be released in audiobook in Germany, translated into the Germany language given the enormous popularity of audiobooks in that country.

The song “Creature,” will be recorded at the actual “Psycho” house on the Universal Studios film lot, and is a Halloween themed song. “Croonerman,” will film in Las Vegas.

Evans’ mother, Helen Marie Bousquet, penned the song “Croonerman,” prior to her passing in October of 2012, one week after the music video “At Fenway” was filmed, resulting in Evans taking time off and relocating to Hawaii.

Brian’s songs, heard on such shows as “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Big Shots,” and movies such as “The Wedding Weekend,” will also play a part in the “Horrorscope” film soundtrack. He has up until recently performed as the opening act for Jay Leno in Las Vegas, Joan Rivers, and more.

“It has taken me a long time to adjust to my new reality with my mother not being here the way that I had expected, and I’m simply ready now to proceed with our collective goals,” says Evans, who is the first solo artist ever to film a music video entirely at Fenway Park in the park’s history.

The new CD will also include original tracks “Planet Blue,” “Boston,” and other songs. He also intends to cover “Love On The Rocks,” and other songs he holds dear.

Evans, originally from Haverhill, Massachusetts, is also writing several non-fiction books this year. He was featured on “The Today Show,” when Matt Lauer broadcast a portion of the music video during the “Spanning The World” segment.

The singer attended MIDEM, a music festival in Cannes, France earlier this month where numerous licensing interest occurred as far away as Australia and Korea.

“We are currently putting everything together, and I am looking forward to our ideas resulting in reality. 2014 will see some very interesting developments in my career. I have a focus now that I hadn’t had before, and it’s my job to deliver great music, and to make certain my mother has the legacy that she deserves.”

13 Governors have issued Sleep Apnea Proclamations, with 37 to go, following her passing.

For more information on Brian Evans visit http://www.brianevans.com, follow him on Twitter at twitter.com/croon1, or follow him on Facebook at facebook.com/croonerman today. His music is available at iTunes, Amazon.com, and everywhere that music is sold. He is authoring several books through H Infinity Books. The latest CD, produced by Walden, features 11 songs, a commemorative booklet, and a DVD of the music video with special features. It is also sold at Walmart.com.

“I personally believe that this will be my last studio album prior to my turning my direction at simply writing books, but one never knows,” he says.

The novel “Horrorscope” will be released on March 15th, 2014. Signed copies of the CD are available on his website in a limited and numbered release series. The book “Horrorscope” is now accepting pre-orders at brianevans.com. The book will be release at Amazon Kindle, iBooks, Barnes & Noble, and everywhere else ebooks, and audiobooks, are sold.

“This was a hard transformative year, and I am very appreciative of those who stuck by me,” Evans concludes.

A tour is in the works, which will also have Brian performing as the opening act for a major label touring act now in discussions.

The New R&S RTE Oscilloscopes from Rohde & Schwarz: Ease of Use Combined with Powerful Analysis Tools

leave a comment »

MUNICH/PRNewswire/ — R&S RTE digital oscilloscopes offer fast and reliable solutions for everyday T&M tasks such as embedded design development, power electronics analysis and general debugging. Users benefit from features such as high sampling and acquisition rates and good signal fidelity. A comprehensive set of measurement and analysis tools deliver fast results and the high-resolution touchscreen makes the R&S RTE very easy to use.
The new R&S RTE from Rohde & Schwarz is available with bandwidths from 200 MHz to 1 GHz. An acquisition rate of more than one million waveforms per second helps users find signal faults quickly. The scope’s highly accurate digital trigger system with virtually no trigger jitter delivers highly precise results. The single-core A/D converter with more than seven effective bits (ENOB) almost completely eliminates signal distortion. With a sampling rate of 5 Gsample per second and a maximum memory depth of 50 Msample per channel, the R&S RTE can accurately record the long signal sequences required when analyzing the data content of serial protocols such as I2C and CAN.
Users performing complex tasks will especially appreciate the high measurement speed of the R&S RTE. Mask tests, for example, quickly return statistically conclusive results. The highly responsive, spectrum-analyzer-like FFT reliably detects even sporadic signals, making the R&S RTE ideal for EMI debugging during product development.
Thanks to the high-resolution 10.4″ XGA touchscreen, users can intuitively perform their daily T&M tasks. For instance, they only have to swipe the screen to access saved instrument setups. And they can simply “drag & drop” waveforms to arrange them on the screen.
