SINGAPORE, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Noggin IT, the emerging leader in next-generation cloud-based software for enterprise incident management, announces a technology and business partnership with InterCall, a subsidiary of West Corporation and the world’s largest conferencing and collaboration services provider, to provide an enterprise resilience solution for the Asia Pacific region. The partnership broadens InterCall’s Unified Communications services offering and extends the availability of Noggin OCA’s solution in the region.
The agreement sees the Noggin OCA Enterprise Suite fully integrated into West Corporation’s Alerts and Notifications portfolio and sold by InterCall’s direct salesforce and channel partners throughout the Asia Pacific region.
InterCall has over 100 direct sales consultants in Asia Pacific who will be taking the Enterprise Resilience solution powered by Noggin OCA to market. James BW, Managing Director Noggin IT, says, “Noggin IT first integrated with InterCall two years ago. Since then we realized the synergies that existed in InterCall’s collaboration platform and customer base and decided to expand our relationship where InterCall would offer an enterprise resilience suite powered by Noggin OCA as part of their unified communications solution. InterCall’s global distribution will take Noggin’s leading edge solutions to new markets and multi-national organisations throughout Asia Pacific initially and then hopefully beyond those regions.”

From our clients’ perspective, the ability to get a customised solution is really important.”
“When an event occurs, the Noggin OCA system instigates the alert, by sending out SMSs, faxes, email and even voice messages simultaneously to fixed or mobile phones, alerting key personnel. With InterCall’s hosted communication and collaboration platforms, teams can then quickly and easily come together to resolve the issue – at any time and from anywhere. Strategically this relationship allows us to provide an enterprise resilience solution that manages the entire event life-cycle.”
InterCall will provide global 24×7 support to their clients who will in turn have 24×7 access to Noggin on-call technicians. Noggin will develop integration partnerships with local professional services providers to customise service in non-English speaking countries.

Industry Expert Speakers at APLF’s 30th Anniversary

leave a comment »

HONG KONG, Feb. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — APLF, the organisers of Materials, Manufacturing and Technology (MM&T), announce their programme of conferences and workshops at the upcoming MM&T to be held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. To celebrate APLF’s 30th anniversary, a special programme is planned this year that consists of industry leaders and experts who will discuss the latest hot topics in the leather and fashion industry.

The conference programme started even before the exhibition with the two rounds of webinars on the topic of “The role of leather in a fast changing world” by Ronald Sauer, publisher of the Sauer report and Mike Redwood, leather industry expert and spokesperson for “LeatherNaturally!” These webinars are co-organised by APLF and Leather International.

On the first day of the fair, representatives from this year’s focus country, Brazil, will present a series of industry seminars on topics such as environmental sustainability issues, technology trends and process improvements in the leather industry. Also among the speakers is Mauricio Medeiros, a renowned designer who will be speaking on “Design na Pele,” an integrated project between tanneries and designers. Articles created during the “Design na Pele” project will also be on display at this year’s fair.

Seminars and conferences continue into day two starting with a seminar on the topic of “Applying tradition & innovation in leather for interiors,” presented by Bill Amberg, founder of the “Bill Amberg” brand of luxury leather goods and interiors based in London.

“While leather has been utilised for architectural elements, furniture and decorative accessories for centuries, it has always fascinated me on how we can better combine the best of traditional leather techniques and designs with innovative and modern treatments and applications,” said Bill Amberg. “Our goal is to bring leather into the core of 21st century living.”

Mike Redwood is also among the speakers on day two and he will talk on “Leather and its levels of luxury”. Other confirmed speakers include Amanda Michel who will be speaking on “Leather basics” and Ralph Arbeid who will discuss the traceability in the trade of reptile skins.

“As we move forward, leather will become scarcer per capita globally so it should be manufactured, utilised and consumed as an increasingly valuable item. Its utility defines many of its end uses but its emotional and sensory qualities will hold the key to its value to the final consumer. Tanners must think about the implications of this in the way that they design new leathers from all raw material types and grades, and how they can work with designers to ultimately create a better product,” said Mike Redwood.

The International Leather Conference co-organised by APLF and BLC will also take place at this year’s fair. The focus of this year’s conference will be on “Leather and the Environment;” industry leaders such as Martin Manghelli from adidas Group, Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer from LANXESS Deutschland GmbH, Dr Victoria Addy from BLC Leather Technology Centre Ltd. and Martin Berman from Micro-Pak Ltd. will be presenting at the conference.

To view the full program of this year’s International Leather Conference, please click here.

Online pre-registration to visit MM&T 2014 is open now for qualified professionals. For more information, please visit http://www.mmt.aplf.com.

Frost & Sullivan Commends Allscripts for Developing a Truly Open API for the Health Information Market

leave a comment »

Allscripts open architecture helps healthcare providers address the complex challenges of integrating disparate IT systems.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Based on its recent analysis of innovation strategies among leading health information technology vendors, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Allscripts with the 2013 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product Innovation Leadership. Frost & Sullivan has found that Allscripts has successfully aligned its open application programming interface (API) product offering with a number of key trends that are reshaping the healthcare industry, particularly in the area of enhanced data integration and electronic health record (EHR) functionality.

The company’s Open API initiative — which consists of the Allscripts Developer Program, software development kit (SDK), and Allscripts Application Store — facilitates that mission by enabling clients and third-party development partners to connect data and build innovative solutions.

The Allscripts Developer Program offers qualified developers the opportunity to use a variety of SDKs to connect with various Allscripts applications used throughout hospital and ambulatory care settings. The SDKs enable partners to use Allscripts programmers’ toolkit to create interfaces as well as other applications. Finally, the Allscripts Application Store connects clients with a marketplace of approved, third-party apps that help providers increase productivity, integrate devices, and enhance patient engagement.

“Over the past six years, the company has dedicated considerable resources to building a robust web services program from the ground up,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Nancy Fabozzi. “Through its Open API initiative, clients and third-party developers are provided with access to the same tools that Allscripts developers use internally. Therefore, the company ensures that those web services stay up-to-date with new releases, run without glitches, and are easy to use and upgrade.”

Another important market differentiator for Allscripts is its popular Open App Challenge, which promoted new pathways for collaboration by leveraging the innovations of a wide range of talented programmers. Allscripts encouraged participants in the Open App Challenge to “start a revolution” by designing and integrating applications that eventually become extensions of its own EHR solutions.

“Healthcare Information Technology is becoming a team sport where companies and clients can collaborate on new innovations,” said Allscripts Chief Innovation Officer Stanley Crane. “In 2013, applications called Allscripts Open APIs 125 million times, which I think is real proof that the toolkit is working to benefit health care.”

Allscripts Open API also enables users to access tools that offer novel functionality and improve workflow as well as create new methods of connecting devices and decision support tools to increase productivity and reduce repetitive data entry. Importantly, it also enables users to extract the most value out of existing IT systems without the need for a timely and expensive rip and replace process.

Today, the Allscripts Application Store features more than 50 products from various vendors covering a range of provider and consumer needs. The applications span a variety of categories including analytics and population health, care coordination, content and care guides, device connectivity, patient engagement and more. Many tools address the key pain points around a provider’s use of EHRs, including redundant data entry and integration with clinician workflow. In addition, consumer-facing tools are designed in line with the growing focus on wellness and the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes.

“Allscripts was one of the early market movers in recognizing the value of bringing on development partners to drive and expand product innovation in the highly complex market of health IT,” noted Fabozzi. “Today, Allscripts is leading the market in promoting product innovation by encouraging clients and development partners to work together to rapidly bring new solutions to market.”

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed an innovative element in a product by leveraging leading-edge technologies. The award recognizes the value added features/benefits of the product and the increased ROI it offers customers, which in turn increases customer acquisition and overall market penetration potential.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. In order to identify industry best practices, analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research.

Palo Alto Networks Launches the Industry’s Fastest Next-Generation Firewall

leave a comment »

– New PA-7050 Delivers Superior Performance with Next-Generation Firewall Security Enabled
SANTA CLARA, Calif./PRNewswire/ — Palo Alto Networks® (NYSE: PANW), the leader in enterprise security, today announced the industry’s most powerful next-generation firewall, the PA-7050. With next-generation firewall functions, such as full application enablement, IPS, AV and WildFire™ active on all traffic, the PA-7050 delivers consistent performance at speeds much higher than alternative offerings. This superior consistency in performance empowers organizations to apply next-generation firewall security throughout their networks — from the edge of the enterprise to the datacenter — and ensures security does not become a barrier to achieving high network performance.
(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130508/SF04701LOGO)
The amount of data travelling across enterprise networks continues to grow at a rapid rate, and enterprises need to ensure that data moves as quickly as possible to maintain business productivity. This challenge is compounded by the need to apply next-generation security throughout the network to protect against sophisticated cyber attacks. These attacks can hide in plain sight, using common applications to penetrate exterior defenses, and once inside a network, act like day-to-day traffic while stealing targeted data via applications such as FTP, webmail or veiled within SSL.
Common port-based firewalls, plus simple signature-based protection mechanisms masked as next-generation firewalls cannot safely enable applications; they only block them, and further cannot deliver adequate performance with these security features enabled. The result: many organizations limit application of tight security controls, leaving their organizations at risk.
Palo Alto Networks addresses this challenge head-on with the PA-7050, a powerful, yet easy-to-extend and manage next-generation firewall that is designed from the ground up to deliver performance consistency with next-generation security controls enabled.
Quotes:
“Big security news stories are a daily event as the threats facing enterprises are getting more pervasive and sophisticated. Organizations need to implement protections against advanced application-layer threats throughout their networks – not just at the edge, but often have to compromise security for performance in the data center.” – Jeff Wilson, Principal Analyst Security at Infonetics Research.
“The PA-7050 allows security teams to achieve two seemingly conflicting goals. First, it provides state-of-the-art security at the application level and applies scans for attacks, malware, and exploits. Second, because it has a unique single-pass architecture designed to optimize performance, the PA-7050 can provide all of this security capability at speeds much greater than alternatives in the market; this ensures business processes run smoothly and securely for our customers.” – Lee Klarich, Senior Vice President, Product Management, Palo Alto Networks
The PA-7050: The industry’s fastest NGFW
At its inception, Palo Alto Networks set the gold standard for the definition of a high performance next-generation firewall that is architected from the ground up to protect digital assets by identifying and safely enabling all applications, including those encrypted with SSL while blocking known and unknown threats.
As the newest member of the Palo Alto Networks family of next-generation firewalls, the PA-7050 runs PAN-OS™, the operating system that is the heart of the Palo Alto Networks platform, and supports throughput speeds up to 120 Gbps for core firewall functionality. Because of the combination of performance, scalability, and security, the PA-7050 is ideally and equally suited for:
The data center where validation of applications and users, and threat prevention at 100Gbps or more is critical;
The Internet gateway where visibility and control over all applications and protection from known and unknown threats are critical; and
Internal network segments, where isolation of critical data and business functions is required.
The PA-7050 features a distributed processing architecture to provide scalable performance. Customers requiring additional network capacity simply need to add network processing cards (NPCs) to the PA-7050 chassis. All traffic going through the PA-7050 is automatically balanced across the network processing modules, seamlessly increasing network performance without added management overhead.

ARTERIA Program – The Montreal Heart Institute will pilot #ARTERIA: a major research program for patients with or at risk of cardiovascular disease

leave a comment »

MONTREAL /PRNewswire/ — In the presence of Quebec Premier, Pauline Marois, ministers Nicolas Marceau, Jean-Francois Lisee and Elaine Zakaib, Montreal Mayor, Denis Coderre, and the representatives of international pharmaceutical companies, Dr. Jean-Claude Tardif, Director of the Research Centre of the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI), announced today the launch of ARTERIA, a research program aimed at developing ground-breaking treatments for cardiovascular diseases, the number one cause of death worldwide. “Once again, the Montreal Heart Institute and its team of dedicated physicians, researchers and professionals have established themselves as world leaders in the fight against heart disease. This program will have tangible positive effects on patients living with or at risk of developing cardiovascular disease,” declared Dr. Tardif.
The discoveries and innovations that will stem from this unique program will substantially benefit patients over the medium and long term by transforming medical practices in the treatment of heart disease, all while realizing major savings for the health system as a whole. Among its many benefits, ARTERIA will make it possible to deliver increasingly personalized medicine and to treat and medicate patients more effectively, thus saving lives. It is noteworthy that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of hospitalization and deaths in the world, and that 1.3 million Canadians suffer from various forms of the illness. Cardiovascular diseases also represent the largest economic burden of all diagnostic categories with total annual costs of approximately $22 billion in Canada.
Unprecedented partnership yields major investment of $49.2M
This monumental cutting-edge project has been made possible thanks to the $49.2 million it has received in funding. Of this amount, $18.2M has come from the Government of Quebec and $31M has come from private investments linked to the biopharmaceutical sector. “We are very proud at the Montreal Heart Institute Research Centre to have succeeded in attracting to this research program such key stakeholders as the Quebec Government, Universite de Montreal, and the world’s most innovative pharmaceutical companies, so that our patients and all Quebecers may benefit from the fruits of this important research,” added Dr. Tardif. ARTERIA will also lead to the creation of 150 new direct, high-skilled jobs.
On-hand at the announcement, the program’s main private partners were eager to praise the MHI Research Centre’s initiative in establishing this innovative project. In so doing, they attested to the Institute’s indisputable leadership on the world stage.
“Through our collaboration, we will be able to combine the MHI’s worldwide network of scientific and medical research with our capabilities in translational medicine and clinical development. For this reason, to Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, the Montreal Heart Institute is unequivocally a world-class Quebec institution,” noted Ronnie Miller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. Canada.
Frederic Fasano, Canadian CEO of major ARTERIA partner Servier Canada Inc., for his part underscored the long-standing collaboration between the two organizations: “Our collaboration with the Montreal Heart Institute began over 15 years ago. It has been extremely productive in terms of research and innovation, case in point being a medication to treat patients with heart failure which was largely developed within the walls of the Institute. To work with the Montreal Heart Institute is to work alongside cardiologists and researchers of one of North America’s top cardiology centres.”
Lastly, major partner MedImmune (a subsidiary of AstraZeneca) stressed the uniqueness of the MHI and its model. “In taking part in the ARTERIA program, AstraZeneca, like all other public and private partners and all patients, will benefit from the internationally outstanding facility that is the Montreal Heart Institute. The Institute is the only one to offer an integrated model that runs the gamut from genetics, to cellular analysis, to major clinical studies. The Montreal Heart Institute is simply the only centre of its kind in the world,” added Dr. Fouzia Laghrissi-Thode, Global Vice-President in charge of AstraZeneca’s Cardiovascular and Metabolic division.
Dr. Guy Breton, Rector of the Universite de Montreal, to which MHI is affiliated, was thrilled about the announcement. “We are very proud of the three Universite de Montreal research teams that received funding as part of this new program. I especially congratulate Dr. Tardif and his team at the Montreal Heart Institute who are set to lead a research program that is innovative from every standpoint. On this Valentine’s Day, which calls to mind the importance of the heart, I am delighted to know that researchers of such high calibre will have access to resources and partners that will enable them to develop new avenues to improve heart health.
The product of a vast and diversified partnership, ARTERIA has also been made possible by the significant contribution and tangible support of the following partners: Valeant Canada, Pharmascience Inc., Thrasos Therapeutics Inc., Pfizer Canada Inc., Spartan Bioscience Inc., and the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation.

The innovative skirt was designed by the Fashion Fringe winners and created by Kin and uses static pictures captured by the phone, or live feeds on the 80 screens that adorn it – allowing it to change around the wearer and their day.
Images on the screens change colour as the skirt moves, creating a shimmer effect simulating the realistic tactile character of actual fabric. This is achieved through a purpose built app that utilises global positioning, to ensure the shimmer happens in line with the models movement. It is believed that this is the first time a skirt of this kind has been created.
Annie Kearney, Nokia Brand Lab, said: “This unique project is about exploring the possibilities of smart technology and fashion coming together, as well as supporting new talent to create something special using the beautifully designed Nokia Lumia 1520.”
To build the skirt, Kin worked interactively with a combination of software such as Python and C#. Initial drawings were sketched along side Fyodor Golan. The sketches were then developed using engineering tools and rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting to evolve the initial design.
Of their new collection and working with Nokia, Fyodor said: “This A/W 14 season we toyed with tradition against technology. We believe that you can create almost anything that isn’t influenced by gravity. The colour changes as the skirt moves and the idea of making the screens react to the word around it via photographs and video is something that we do not think has been done before.”
Speaking of their experience creating this skirt, Matt Wade from Kin said: “This is exciting new territory that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in fashion, designing and programming.”
Nokia have a long history of working within fashion, bringing David Bailey and Bruce Weber together to shoot together for the first time in history using the 41 megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020. Smartphones play an increasingly integral role within fashion, and more specifically on the front row of global fashion week shows, with designs online before they hit the end of the runway. The leading functionality, design and imaging capabilities of the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 make them the perfect tool for the fashion world.
