— 2000-liter mixer for difficult-to-mix buffers and media
— Large volume transport system for aseptic and non-aseptic liquids

DARMSTADT, Germany /PRNewswire/ — Merck, a leading science and technology company, is launching three Mobius® products that deliver improved efficiency and ease-of-use for biopharmaceutical manufacturing workflows.

The new Mobius® products include a 1000-liter single-use bioreactor with an industry-leading design, a 2000-liter mixing system for difficult-to-mix biopharm ingredients and a large volume liquid transport system for aseptic and non-aseptic substances.

“Our newest Mobius® products meet our customers’ increasingly complex demands for user friendly systems that allow them to focus on their science,” said Udit Batra, CEO, Life Science at Merck.

The Mobius® 1000 liter single-use bioreactor completes the comprehensive Mobius® stirred tank portfolio of 3 to 2000 liter sizes, delivering greater flexibility and continuity for scale-up. With the industry’s only bottom-loading drawer for easy and safe bag installation, Merck’s new bioreactor is designed to achieve homogenous and fast mixing for consistent performance, especially at large scale.

The Mobius® Power MIX 2000 creates a strong vortex to handle difficult-to-mix buffers, media and other biopharm ingredients. Powerful mixing is achieved from an impeller design and motor based on magnetically-coupled NovAseptic® technology, a proven mixing technology in stainless steel tanks. The Power MIX 2000 provides accessible, sterile zero deadleg sampling directly from the mixing container. A Probe Port allows insertion of either a reusable standard probe for non-aseptic processes or a pre-sterilized, single-use sensor for in-process pH measurement of aseptic processes.

The Mobius® single-use 3D large liquid transportation system’s single-use bags and stainless steel transporter bins facilitate the safe and convenient road transport of aseptic and non-aseptic media, buffers, in-process intermediates and final bulk drug products at cold or ambient temperatures. The system offers four single-use bag assemblies with working volumes of 100 to 500 liters. All bags are constructed from PureFlex™ Plus film with a proven low extractable profile and gas barrier properties.

Merck will showcase its industry-leading portfolio of single-use and other biopharmaceutical manufacturing products at booth #2841 at INTERPHEX 2016 in New York City from April 26 – 28. Follow us on Twitter @merckgroup.

iPoint Releases Framework of Human Trafficking and Slavery Laws for Private Sector

leave a comment »

REUTLINGEN, Germany /PRNewswire/ —

iPoint-systems to Provide Open-Access Anti-Slavery Reporting Template

iPoint-systems, a leading software and services provider offering compliance and sustainability solutions in the Conflict Minerals, RoHS, REACH, and EH&S area, is pleased to announce the publication of a commissioned framework of human trafficking and slavery laws directed at the private sector.

(Photo: )

Showing how the relevant legislation in the USA, EU, and UK relate to each other thematically may not only assist companies in their design of relevant programs, but furthermore informs the design of an integrated, liability-based reporting and compliance solution.

“Seven recent laws in particular challenge companies to control for slavery-like conditions in their supply and provision chains,” observes Dr. Chris Bayer, the author of the framework. “The design of anti-slavery programs in line with corporate liabilities is one thing. Mobilizing entire supply chains to implement required systems is the much more formidable task.”

The publication of this framework is iPoint’s first step in meeting the new challenge head-on. “Our customers demand liability-premised software solutions that also make business sense,” remarks iPoint’s CEO Joerg Walden. “This is what we are in the process of delivering.”

The next step for iPoint is to make public an open-access anti-slavery reporting template that businesses may use for their supply chain reporting needs. To this end, the tool, aka eLRT (Electronic Labor Rights Template), is currently being reviewed by a stakeholder forum comprised of private sector, civil society, and government representatives to ensure the template’s sensitivity, robusticity, and responsiveness to the present reporting requirements and at-risk labor practices. The template, along with the framework, will be available for download on the website

Thousands of companies around the globe rely on iPoint for managing, tracking, analyzing, and reporting data across the whole value creation network. iPoint’s software and consulting services support you in meeting and staying one step ahead of regulations and requirements such as REACH, RoHS, WEEE, ELV, Conflict Minerals, and other trending developments in the compliance and sustainability arena.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. /PRNewswire/ — Approximately eighty members of the Independent Pilots Association (UPS pilots) working in Cologne, Germany will honor the picket lines of ver.di at the Cologne Bonn airport.  The strike is scheduled to last 24 hours beginning at midnight local Germany time tonight.

Sesame Workshop and IBM Watson Team Up to Advance Early Childhood Education

leave a comment »

-Plan to develop adaptive learning products and platform for use at home and in schools

NEW YORK and ARMONK, N.Y. /PRNewswire/ — Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization that produces Sesame Street, and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced a collaboration to use IBM Watson’s cognitive computing technology and Sesame’s early childhood expertise to help advance preschool education around the world.

Experience the interactive Multimedia News Release here:

As part of a three-year agreement, Sesame Workshop and IBM will collaborate to develop educational platforms and products that will be designed to adapt to the learning preferences and aptitude levels of individual preschoolers. Research shows that a significant extent of brain development occurs in the first five years of a child’s life1, making this window critical for learning and development.

The alliance will draw from Sesame Workshop’s deep educational content expertise garnered from over 45 years of research, and more than 1,000 studies on how young children learn best. This expertise will combine with Watson’snatural language processing, pattern recognition, and other cognitive computing technologies to create highly personalized learning experiences intended to complement the roles that parents and teachers play in early development. Watson will continuously hone and improve educational activities by studying and adapting to the aggregate experiences of anonymized groups of students.

“We believe that bringing education together with technology is a key to improving early learning in this country and around the world,” said Jeffrey D. Dunn, CEO of Sesame Workshop. “A generation ago, Sesame Street used the ubiquitous presence of television to reach vulnerable children who did not have access to the learning opportunities that affluent and middle-class kids did. It worked very well. Now, through this collaboration with IBM and Watson, we expect to develop the next generation of tailored learning tools. Ultimately, the goal is to provide children from all socio-economic backgrounds with the opportunity for meaningful, personalized education in their most formative years.”

Echoing the late 1960s, when Sesame Street‘s founders convened diverse experts to help conceive the show, the Sesame-IBM team will gather leading teachers, academics, researchers, technologists, gamers, performers, and media executives to brainstorm ways in which cognitive computing can best help preschoolers learn.

Sesame Workshop and IBM are currently exploring and iterating on a wide variety of interactive platforms and interfaces for use in homes and schools. The two companies plan to test and share prototypes with leaders in the education and technology community to allow continued refinement based on feedback and domain expertise.

Watson is uniquely suited to tackling one of society’s most pressing and important challenges — the ways in which our young children learn,” said Harriet Green, IBM’s General Manager for Watson IoT, Commerce and Education. “The potential for Watson to absorb, correlate, and learn from huge amounts of unstructured data and then deliver very personalized educational experiences is unprecedented. Working together with Sesame Workshop, we aim to transform the way in which children learn and teachers teach, and envision having an impact on the lives and education of millions of children.”

“Because the foundation of children’s intellect, personality, and skills are formed in the first few years of their lives, ages zero to five are the most critical,” said Todd Rose, one of the project’s independent advisors and Director of Mind, Brain, and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. “There are huge opportunities in early childhood education, but we need to recognize that preschoolers do not all learn in the same way. This partnership has the potential to meet the unique educational needs of every child, whether it’s through customized content or kid-friendly tools that empower each child to find his or her own path to learning. Simply put, personalized educational experiences will enhance learning for every child.”

The framework, introduced at the Infosys Confluence global client summit in San Francisco, has been developed to deliver value-generating solutions and technologies based on blockchain.

The EdgeVerve Blockchain Framework is a permissioned ledger that allows banks to rapidly deploy blockchain-based services for varied business areas. These capabilities make applications built on this framework a viable platform to run payments and other high volume transactional banking services. Key Highlights of the EdgeVerve Blockchain Framework include:

  • Distributed ledger – The framework uses blockchain in a distributed, permissioned environment. It is best suited for minimizing operating and per-transaction costs for financial services companies, while improving data openness and sharing, without compromising data integrity and security
  • Asset agnostic – Banks can create multiple assets leveraging this framework, thereby enabling them to store and transfer a variety of transaction assets within a single network
  • Highly extensible – It includes an API layer that supports extensibility and administrative tools. Banks can develop and rapidly deploy their own custom blockchain solutions along with the framework and scale solutions to meet national and international banking demands

As a leading financial services solutions provider, offering services in 92 countries and powering over one billion banking accounts, EdgeVerve is collaborating with several of the world’s leading financial institutions to build block-chain powered banking networks, products and services levering this framework. Ayuroma Successfully Secures IFC Debt Placement for Myanmar’s Leading Port

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — Ayuroma International Private Limited, aMyanmarfocused corporate advisory and development firm, has been restructuring and developing Myanmar companies since 2011.

Myanmar industrial port

Last week, Ayuroma successfully helped Myanma Annwa Swan A Shin Group (S) Co Ltd., operating as Myanmar Industrial Port (MIP), secure the first tranche of IFC debt, which is expected to be $200 million in total. For the past two years, Ayuroma has been responsible for MIP’s corporate development, which allowed MIP to be in a position to secure international capital. The firm was implementing international business standards and managing MIP’s transition towards increasing transparency and corporate governance.

Captain Ko Ko Htoo, Chairman of MIP, stated, “The successful placement of IFC debt and convertible debt facility has been a big stepping stone for MIP and we recognize Ayuroma’s partnership in working with us for two years in this journey. We appreciate Ma Cherry and Chris’s tireless efforts in ensuring our success in this journey.”

“Traditionally, Myanmar corporations have been operating under family leaderships which have successfully grown to mega businesses. These familyrun businesses invariably need advice and operational expertise in ring-fencing each separate entity as a stand-alone company,” said Ma Cherry Trivedi, Managing Director of Ayuroma International Pte., Ltd. “This intensive exercise is timeconsuming since it involves a good amount of corporate change from accounting to governance to operational restructuring by the advisors with the support of the owners and stakeholders.”

“Myanmar Industrial Port in the past two years has seen its TEUs grow by 94% in total to finish this year at 406,000. Fortunately, U Ko Ko Htoo and Daw Sandar Aung have the foresight to expand the port at the correct time in order to meet the demand of the massive TEU growth which Myanmar has experienced since 2011,” said Chris O’Connor, Director at Ayuroma. “Myanmar is expected to generate 8-9% GDP for a number of years, which bodes well for continued strong container growth. We expect to see dramatic growth in its agricultural and manufacturing bases, which could easily result in its overall TEUs numbers expanding from 1 million in 2015 to 3-4 million TEUs within a few years.”
