-Google’s video streaming dongle captures 35% market share of rapidly expanding connected TV device category

BOSTON /PRNewswire/ — Competition for control of the living room between Apple, Roku, Google and Amazon is intensifying as each brand looks to establish an advantage over the other through the launch of new innovative device hardware and software. If success is measured on device popularity alone then Google is certainly winning the race according to the new Strategy Analytics Connected Home Devices (CHD) report “Global Connected TV Device Vendor Market Share: Q3 2015.”

The associated report is published here: http://bit.ly/1XcAVC7

  • Global shipments of all Connected TV Devices (including Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, Game Consoles and Digital Media Streamers) reached 53 million units in Q3 and are on target to hit 221 million units for the full year, representing growth of 17%.
  • Samsung continues to dominate the global Smart TV market from LG and Sony and it now accounts for 1 in 4 Smart TVs in use worldwide. During the quarter, Philips joined Sony and Sharp in offering Smart TVs with Google’s Android TV platform in a number of its mid to high end ranges. Android TV captured an estimated 8-10% share of the overall Smart TV market during Q3.
  • Within the Game Console market, Sony shipped more than double the number of consoles as Microsoft in the quarter although the Xbox One is expected to close the gap on the PS4 during the final quarter thanks to its appealing 1st and 3rd party bundles.

Quotes:

David Watkins, Service Director, Connected Home Devices service said, “Despite the growing penetration of integrated Smart TVs, Digital Media Streamers such as Chromecast and Fire TV continue to prove popular with consumers thanks to their low cost and effectiveness at bridging the gap between the Internet and the TV screen. While the long term viability of such devices will be threatened by advancements in Smart TV technology, they are currently acting as significant components in Apple, Google and Amazon’s fast evolving TV and video ecosystems.”

Chirag Upadhyay, Senior Research Analyst, Connected Home Devices service added, “The growing adoption of Connected TV Devices in the home proves that the living room TV screen is still the dominant medium for consuming TV and video content. The collective viewing experience cannot be replicated on a smartphone or tablet and so we expect the ‘connected TV screen’ to remain a focal point of homes in the future.”

AT Internet Analyses Impact and Affirms Its Analytics Suite’s Total Compliance with EU Legislation, Following Rejection of the Safe Harbor Agreement

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — AT Internet, major player in the field of digital intelligence, responds to the European Court of Justice’s decision to invalidate the Safe Harbor agreement, per the 6 October 2015 ruling that the European Commission’s Decision 2000/520/EC of 26 July 2000 does not respect personal data privacy regulations.

AT Internet affirms that its data privacy policies respect the requirements of the European Commission’s Directive on Data Protection, as data collected and processed via the AT Internet solution is stored exclusively on French soil. Therefore, European companies using AT Internet’s solution are automatically compliant with this directive, as opposed to companies who transmit their data to the United States via other analytics tools.

What is the Safe Harbor agreement?

The Safe Harbor agreement is the result of the European Commission’s Decision of 26 July 2000, conform to the European Parliament and Council Directive 95/46/EC (24 October 1995) and regarding the “adequate protection” provided by US Department of Commerce’s Safe Harbor Privacy Principles. Until now, the Safe Harbor framework permitted the transfer of European Union citizens’ personal data towards the United States, considering that the United States ensured a sufficient level of protection.

What are the major restrictions now imposed on users of digital analytics solutions?

The European directive requires companies using American digital analytics technologies to obtain authorisation from each of their EU-citizen customers whose data will be processed in the United States.

How is AT Internet different from the majority of digital analytics providers?

AT Internet offers a maximum level of protection to its customers, illustrated by several points:

  • 100% European service provider: Storage, back-up and protection of processed data is done only on proprietary servers based in France.
  • Completely transparent approach to privacy and data protection: France’s CNIL recommends AT Internetfor its conformity to cookie regulations.
  • TUV certification: German entity TUV Saarland certifies that AT Internet’s data collection and processing procedures conform to data privacy and protection norms.
  • Unique position in the digital analytics market: AT Internet is the only European group among the industry leaders, as outlined in this report from Forrester Research, Inc. (“The Forrester Wave: Web Analytics, Q2 2014″). This “leader” position guarantees the highest levels of performance and strict respect of EU legislation.

Mathieu Llorens, AT Internet CEO, says: “The ruling of Safe Harbor as ‘invalid’ should enable greater protection of European users by reviving negotiations about the necessary alignment of French and American practices. In light of all this, we want to reassure our European customers who, as always, can count on the guarantees and certifications made possible by our France-based hosting infrastructures, as well as our presence as an independent entity focused exclusively on analytics.”

White paper to be published in early 2016

AT Internet is currently developing a joint white paper with Aurelie Pols, international expert in data protection and privacy issues in the digital analytics industry. The white paper’s objective is to comprehensively assess the topic and help marketing professionals sufficiently evaluate their current situation, thanks to best practices and recommendations on tools that conform to current legislation.

Aurelie Pols adds: “Safe Harbor has always been a weak link when it comes to respecting recognised privacy rights of EU citizens, even more so as the digital analytics industry is moving towards increased customer centricity! It took Edward Snowden and an Austrian law student to declare it illegal. This invalidation by the European Court of Justice, together with other issues our industry is facing such as AdBlockers and data quality, should resonate as a sounding board to do a better job at finding the right balance between data-driven decision-making and respecting users’ privacy wishes. All actors involved within the digital data ecosystem have a role to play: It’s basically a chain of responsibility. More specifically, analytics vendors are today faced with the challenge of rolling out adequate privacy features for their customers, allowing them to, in turn, respect their users’ rights.”

For more information, please see the European Court of Justice’s official press release.

About AT Internet
One of the world’s major players in digital intelligence since 1996, AT Internet helps companies measure their audience and optimise their digital performance across all channels. SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the world’s largest and most dynamic hotel groups, today announced the signing of a management contract with Eurowindow Nha Trang Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company to develop the Radisson Blu Cam Ranh Bay. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2019, the beachfront property is one of the most anticipated new developments along the coast of this stunning Vietnamese resort destination.

“As we grow across Asia Pacific, we are pleased to expand our footprint into Vietnam and into a segment that is currently underserved in the region,” said Thorsten Kirschke, president, Asia Pacific, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. “This latest Radisson Blu flagship will provide international and domestic travelers with a full range of innovative design-led products and services, delivering genuine and relevant guest experiences with Radisson Blu’s distinctiveYes I Can! service philosophy.”

Radisson Blu Cam Ranh Bay marks the beginning of the company’s Vietnam growth story, which will focus on Tier 1 cities and resort destinations, as well as second tier cities. Carlson Rezidor is currently pursuing development opportunities in top destinations including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang, while also exploring upcoming destinations such as Phu Quoc, Hue, Dalat, Quy Nhon, Mui Ne, Sapa, and Hai Phong.

With the government’s push to accelerate infrastructural projects, the setting aside of a USD 100 million fund to promote tourism, the relaxation of visa regulations, as well as a growing number of domestic flights, the outlook for the hospitality market in Vietnam is strong. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in 2014 was 7,874,312, which represents a 4 percent increase over the previous year. And the number of international visitors arriving in Hanoi in the first half of 2015 was 8.8 percent higher than the same period last year, while Ho Chi Minh City saw a 3 percent rise in international arrivals over the same timeframe.

Radisson Blu Cam Ranh Bay is a 290-key, new build, beachfront resort situated four kilometers from Cam Ranh International Airport, which is one of Vietnam’s busiest and expected to handle 8 million passengers annually by 2030. Radisson Blu Cam Ranh Bay offers guests direct access to an 800-meter stretch of unspoiled sandy white beach, as well as 40 high-end villas. The hotel’s meetings facilities will include a grand ballroom and multiple meeting rooms suitable for both business events and social gatherings. The resort will offer guests the choice of two restaurants, a lounge bar and a pool bar.

Radisson Blu Cam Ranh Bay is close to tourist attractions including Ba Ho Waterfalls, Fairy Spring Waterfalls and Thap Ba Hot Springs. The Long Son Pagoda, Po Nagar Temple, Buu Phuoc Pagoda and An Ton Church are also within easy reach, and given the deep waters off the bay, diving, sailing and surfing are just some of the activities that guests can enjoy. Radisson Blu Cam Ranh Bay will offer a range of sea sports facilities, as well as a pool, a fitness center and full spa facilities.

“We are honored to partner with a globally recognized hotel group to deliver world class hospitality in Vietnam. On-demand Delivery Service for High-End Restaurant Cuisine, Deliveroo, Comes to Southeast Asia, Australia and Middle East

leave a comment »

-Fuelled by US$100M investment, European food courier reveals appetite for expansion

HONG KONG /PRNewswire/ — Deliveroo, the on-demand delivery service that allows food lovers to experience quality high-end restaurant cuisine at their doorsteps, today opened in five new cities, includingHong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney and Dubai. The expansion comes on the back of a US$100 millionSeries D funding-round led by DST Global and Greenoaks Capital, with participation from existing investors Accel, Hummingbird Ventures and Index Ventures.

Together with a $70-million capital-injection received in July of this year, the investment will help Deliveroo firmly establish itself as the number one provider of on-demand high-quality food delivery.

William Shu, co-founder and CEO of Deliveroo, said, “We’ve experienced extraordinary demand for our service as consumers want high-quality food delivered and restaurants seek a new significant source of revenue. It’s been phenomenal to see the business quickly expand from London to European capitals and some of the most exciting cities in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.”

Since the start of 2015, Deliveroo has grown daily orders tenfold and expanded its service to 50 cities across 12 countries, providing rapidly delivered cuisine from over 5,000 restaurants worldwide.

Commenting on the expansion, DST Global founder Yuri Milner said, “William and the Deliveroo team are dedicated to providing a great food delivery experience for their customers, restaurant partners and drivers. We hope this new round [of funding] will support their continued growth.”

Hong Kong, as the first city in China and second in Asia to have a dedicated Michelin Guide, will likely drive a large part of the expected growth.

Brian Lo, Co-General Manager of Deliveroo Hong Kong, said, “We are thrilled to be among the first destinations in Asia to launch the service. Hong Kong is an integral part of the company’s presence in the region and the reception has been great so far.”

Deliveroo Hong Kong currently offers cuisine from over 50 of the city’s leading restaurants, a number that is sure to grow as the service broadens its coverage area and more restaurant owners learn of its benefits.

“Restaurants partnering with Deliveroo can utilise their excess kitchen capacity to generate an increase of 30 percent or more in revenue without their own fleet of drivers and technology infrastructure. It’s a great way to offset the high rents that make it difficult to run a sustainable, profitable dining operation in Hong Kong,” said Deliveroo Hong Kong Co-General Manager Justin Landsberger. “And thanks to our rapid delivery of 30 minutes on average[1], they can also ensure food quality.”

The Hong Kong service covers the city’s Central, SoHo, Sheung Wan, Mid-Levels and Admiralty neighbourhoods, and will be extended to Causeway Bay, Tai Hang, Wan Chai, Happy Valley, Kennedy Town and Pokfulam in December.

Deliveroo launched in London in 2013 with the mission to provide the ultimate food delivery experience. Unlike the majority of food delivery businesses that are purely online marketplaces for takeaway restaurants, Deliveroo partners with premium restaurants that don’t typically provide delivery, offering its customers access to a new range of dishes that can be easily ordered through Deliveroo’s website or mobile app.

New Research Reveals Bacteria Associated With Feline Gum Disease for the First Time

leave a comment »

-Studies reveal the differences in species of bacteria found in cat and human plaque and pave the way for more effective treatment for one of the most commonly diagnosed health problems in cats

BRUSSELS/PRNewswire/ — Gum disease is one of the most commonly diagnosed health problems in cats, yet relatively little was understood about the bacteria associated with it – until now. Two collaborative studies have been conducted by researchers from the WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition together with expert veterinary dentists and the Harvard affiliated Forsyth Institute. The work, published in Veterinary Microbiology in February 2015 and PLOS ONE today, sheds new light on feline gum disease, identifying the most common bacterial species associated with health and disease in cats for the first time.

Using the latest DNA sequencing technologies, researchers identified 267 bacterial species present in feline dental plaque and built a database detailing the differences between bacterial populations in healthy cats and those in cats with gum disease.

“This knowledge is a first step in understanding the potential for improving oral health of cats through dietary interventions that target disease-associated bacteria,” said Dr. Ian Davis, Oral Health Researcher at WALTHAM, part of Mars Petcare.

The studies also revealed that the bacterial species in feline plaque were more similar to those observed in canine plaque than to those found in humans. This suggests that interventions targeted at bacteria which cause oral disease in humans are unlikely to be effective in cats, and there is more potential to learn from interventions that work well in dogs.

Dr. Davis added: “It’s important for pet owners to know that cats are just as susceptible to gum disease as dogs and understand the importance of maintaining a good oral hygiene routine; ideally including tooth brushing and dental treats or a specific dental diet.”
