EDIS Launches “JobTech(TM) PMET” Technology Engine to Help Retrenched Executives Find Jobs

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE/PRNewswire/ — Economic Development Innovations Singapore Pte Ltd (EDIS) is launching JobTech™ PMET, the first Artificial Intelligence and Big Data job technology platform to boost the re-employment chances of retrenched PMETs (professionals, managers, executives and technicians).

PMET retrenchment is on the rise. This issue has been highlighted in recent government reports on the worsening labour market condition in Singapore, in particular, the challenges faced by retrenched PMETs. According to the Monetary Authority of Singapore Macroeconomics Review October 2016, PMETs accounted for more than two-thirds of the residents laid off in the first half of 2016 and only 40% of resident PMETs made redundant re-entered the workforce within six months.

EDIS Chairman Mr Philip Yeo said, “I spent the better part of my career creating good jobs for all Singaporeans. In my discussions with retrenched PMETs in Singapore, they have requested assistance to identify job and training opportunities to help them re-enter the workforce and be productive again.” Mr Yeo, who is former Chairman of the Economic Development Board and spent nearly 50 years in the civil service leading Singapore’s job creation and talent development efforts added, “I hope that JobTech™ can make a positive impact on Singapore’s jobs economy.”

JobTech™ PMET is built on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data technology that was developed by the Business Analytics Group within the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) from the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). JobTech™ PMET aims to use cutting edge data analytics technologies to provide aggregated insights to boost the re-employment chances of jobseekers.

Unique features of the complimentary beta version of JobTech™ PMET include:

Automated one-stop search platform: Get accurate, real-time and unified view of the job vacancies, representing about 90% of the total online job advertisements in Singapore. This feature potentially addresses the issue of ‘missed match’ jobseekers who are unable to keep track of where and how to pursue jobs that could be suitable for them.
Targeted skills upgrading: Identify the skillsets required to land a job and to match the required skills to training opportunities funded through Singapore’s SkillsFuture initiative. This feature potentially addresses the issue of ‘mismatched’ jobseekers who may not have the skills, expertise and experience needed by the employers; and could benefit from targeted skills upgrading and training intervention opportunities offered by SkillsFuture.
Find jobs closer to home: Identify the location of available jobs for jobseekers who want to work closer to home. In conversations with numerous PMETs in Singapore, jobseekers have indicated to the JobTech™ PMET team that they would like to access job opportunities that are closer to where they live in order to reduce commuting time and stress.
EDIS is in discussion with various partners, including agencies within the Singapore government to refine the JobTech™ technology engine and welcomes ideas and partners for commercialization and technology refinement.

e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) is collaborating with EDIS to enhance JobTech™ PMET’s value and outreach to PMETs. e2i CEO, Mr Gilbert Tan, said, “With rapid transformation in industries and skills requirements, the current employment landscape requires constant engagement with a wide network of partners to create new training and job matching solutions for Singaporeans. JobTech’s aggregated insights provide useful one-stop job and skills access. e2i sees many possibilities for this tool to complement employability coaching, training advisory, and job matching for PMETs.”

About a thousand distinguished guests were on hand to witness the historic occasion, including Mr Gregory So Kam-leung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Philip Yung Wai-hung, JP, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism), Ms Cathy Chu Man-ling, JP, Commissioner for Tourism, Dr. Peter Lam Kin-ngok, GBS , Chairman of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Anthony Lau, Executive Director of Hong Kong Tourism Board, and Mr Jeff Bent, Managing Director of Worldwide Cruise Terminals.

Following the launch ceremony, guests were able to experience a sumptuous lunch at one of the ship’s many fine-dining eateries, and then invited to join a guided tour to explore the ship’s array of amazing attractions and amenities, including the extensive Dream Palace facilities, Zouk Beach Club, Waterslide Park, Crystal Life Fitness and Spa, “Bistro” by Mark Best, JOHNNIE WALKER HOUSE and Little Pandas Club.

Later in the evening, Genting Dream wowed Hong Kong onlookers with “I love Hong Kong” emblazoned across her decks in a kaleidoscopic display of her state-of-the-art LED lighting system, which sets a new bar for cruise lines, mesmerising spectators with a dazzling symphony of colour.

WellDog acts to form joint venture to develop coalbed methane fields with Shaanxi energy institute

Letter of Intent paves the way for CBM success in China’s energy prolific province

LARAMIE, Wyoming/PRNewswire/ — WellDog announced today that is has signed a Letter of Intent to form a joint venture with the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Energy Resources and Chemical Engineering (SPIERCE). The joint venture will deploy reservoir, production and development technologies to demonstrate profitable coal bed methane (CBM) development in fields located within the Shaanxi province, one of China’s most prolific energy resource regions.

generated by system

“The introduction of WellDog technologies will contribute greatly to the efficient development of CBM and other unconventional oil and gas resources in China,” stated SPIERCE Director Dr. Zhou Lifa.

China’s CBM resource is estimated at nearly 40 trillion cubic meters (tcm), with recoverable reserves of about 10 tcm. Over the last few decades, China has dramatically increased investment in CBM technologies, and each of the country’s five-year plans has increased CBM production targets, but the results to date have failed to meet those goals.

“We believe we have the operational and technical know-how to make a dramatic improvement in Chinese CBM production,” said John Pope, Ph.D., president and CEO of WellDog. “We started in 1999 at the very infancy of CBM and have become one of the major global players in delivering successful CBM technical services to basins around the world. Bringing WellDog’s know-how and technologies to China will enable the Chinese producers to maximize value from their assets and hopefully meet their production targets in the near future.”

The joint venture meets WellDog’s strategic goal of driving georesource innovation to improve sustainability.

“Shaanxi has committed to producing 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas by the end of the 13th five-year plan,” said James Walker, WellDog Chief Operating Officer. “The dramatic increase is part of China’s push to ease off of burning coal and switch to natural gas, which would substantially improve the average quality of life of Chinese residents.”

ABOUT WellDog: WellDog is an energy-focused technical services company that provides practical technical and business solutions in a high volume, cost effective manner with a remarkable customer focus. The company’s mission is to develop and deploy innovative technologies to produce resources faster, responsibly and sustainably. Since 1999, WellDog has focused on providing cost effective, reliable, accurate subsurface data and data collection systems to high volume resource production operators such as shale oil and gas, coalbed methane, and coal mining operators. The company’s ultimate aim is to assist in improving economic quality of life without reducing environmental quality of life. For more information, visit http://www.welldog.com.

Philip Yeo Book Raises S$250,000 to Support Underprivileged Children in Singapore

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE/PRNewswire/ — In conjunction with the book launch of “Neither Civil Nor Servant”, an authorised biography of its chairman Mr. Philip Yeo; Economic Development Innovations Singapore Pte Ltd (EDIS) is pleased to announce that it has raised over S$250,000 from pre-launch book sales and private donations for the EDIS Cares Fund.

EDIS Cares is the primary Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of EDIS to give back to the Singapore community. This initiative creates opportunities for children from low income families[1] in Singapore to reach their full potential through special programmes designed to inspire and build self-confidence as well as identify and address learning challenges. These include the Early Learning Programme, an intervention programme for 6 to 7 year-olds who have yet to attain the required literacy and numeracy levels; as well as iShine — a thematic, hands-on exploratory learning programme that seeks to uncover children’s hidden talents and newly sparked interests.

EDIS Cares actively engages volunteers and corporations outside of EDIS to personally and collectively make a difference. Since 2014, EDIS Cares has worked with over 140 volunteers and 17 partner corporations to impact over 200 children.

“Over the last 3 years, EDIS Cares has been a catalyst to make a difference in the lives of more than 200 underprivileged children in Singapore. With this new fund, we hope to double the number of children, volunteers and partners that we reach within the next 3 years,” said Abel Ang, Executive Director, EDIS.

Fundraising for EDIS Cares is ongoing and limited edition hard cover “Neither Civil Nor Servant” books, signed by Mr. Philip Yeo, will be given in appreciation of donations in excess of S$2,500. The EDIS Cares Fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Singapore, an Institute of Public Character.

“The Community Foundation of Singapore is proud to partner with EDIS Cares to support programmes that help empower disadvantaged children. Together, we hope to make this a fulfilling and impactful collaboration,” said Catherine Loh, CEO, Community Foundation of Singapore.

OUR PROGRAMMES

1. Milk & Diapers – The right start from the very start

Our Milk & Diapers programme aims to provide the critical nutrition and care needed by infants and children up to 4 years old. We work with social workers to identify and monitor families that need such support. To break the cycle of sub-optimal nutrition that is prevalent in lower-income groups, caregivers are educated on how to provide the best nutrition for their families even on a tight budget.

2. Early Learning Programme – Enabling a good start in Primary School

The Early Learning Programme (ELP) is an intervention programme for 6-7 year-olds who have not yet attained the literacy and numeracy levels for their age group. Every Saturday, trained volunteers teach the children on a maximum 1 volunteer : 2 children ratio, using an in-house curriculum designed to also help children with learning difficulties. The children’s progress is monitored through baseline, mid and year-end tests and shared with their parents. Specialist evaluations are sponsored for children suspected of learning difficulties, and we follow-up to ensure that they are placed in the right support programmes.

3. iShine – Be inspired to aspire higher

The iShine programme is a thematic, hands-on exploratory learning programme that takes primary school children beyond their school curriculum. Volunteers journey with the children throughout the year-long programme’s different themes, spotting hidden talents and newly sparked interests. In so doing, we raise their confidence and encourage higher aspirations. iShine children have worked with architects and master-planners to “Design a City”, experienced “A Day in the Life of a Scientist” with researchers and visited horse stables, the airport and other organisations in “When I Grow Up”.

Atos Employees Took Sustainability Efforts To The Streets

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — Atos, an international leader in digital services and its Singapore-based employees took to the streets of Toa Payoh, and helped clean up the neighbourhood. This inaugural initiative called ‘Unlitter Red Dot’, was held to demonstrate the company’s commitment to the environment and sustainability, and was led by its senior stakeholders in Singapore.

‘Unlitter Red Dot’ was a timely follow-up to Atos’ recent entry into the global 2016 Climate A List with the best score in climate performance awarded by the CDP, an independent organization based in the United Kingdom which works with shareholders and corporations to disclose the greenhouse gas emissions of major corporations. To date, less than 200 companies have made it to the Climate A List worldwide. Atos is one of the 9% to be awarded an “A” grade for its performance in combating climate change.

Mr Goh See Wee, Managing Director said, “Atos has been operating in Toa Payoh for several years, and relocated to our current address in Toa Payoh North two years ago. Since then we have enjoyed the unique flavours of this mature estate. With our recent entry into the 2016 Climate A List, there is no better time than now to take action, and reinforce Atos’ commitment to the environment we operate in and support a clean space.”

“Sustainability is at the core of Atos’ corporate strategy and ambition. We are proud to have consistently fulfilled the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) of application level A+ for its Corporate Responsibility Report. We view ‘Unlitter Red Dot’ as a gesture that will help build pride and commitment amongst our employees for the environment, and a step in the right direction towards our global commitment,” added Violet Chua, VP HR for Atos in APAC.

A team of 30 employees set off on the afternoon of 4 November to pick up trash, remove stagnant water and meet with the friendly local residents in the neighbourhood.

ESET Launches New Internet Security Products for Home Users

leave a comment »

-The line of security solutions includes new features to guard against threats like webcam hacking and data theft
SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — ESET has launched version 10 of its premium line of security solutions for home users. ESET Smart Security Premium is built upon the award-winning NOD32 technology that offers the optimal mix of detection, speed and usability. In addition, the new product provides features including ESET Password Manager for easier and safer authentication, as well as ESET Secure Data for convenient and strong encryption.

Besides ESET Smart Security Premium, users will also be able to enjoy the brand new ESET Internet Security. For gamers, the exceptionally well-received ESET NOD32 Antivirus 10 remains the ideal suite with enhanced protection against script-based attacks.

“As internet threats get more and more diverse, users need more complex internet security suites with features based on individual preferences. Our new product portfolio fully reflects this trend,” explains Lukas Raska, Chief Operating Officer for Asia Pacific at ESET.

With the new line of products, ESET highlights the need for privacy when operating PCs and laptops. ESET Webcam Protection — available with both ESET Smart Security Premium and ESET Internet Security — regulates access to the camera so the end user is fully protected. Consumers will be able to monitor, block or allow processes and applications attempting to access the webcam, and switch off the computer’s camera as needed.

“The recent series of DDoS attacks in the U.S. and Singapore have shown how important it is for customers to ensure that the devices they use every day are secured against malware threats,” said Mr Raska. “The ESET Webcam Protection is just one of the many new features of ESET Smart Security Premium 10, which promises fast, lightweight and proactive protection for customers’ webcams, files, passwords and home networks, within a single, integrated solution.”

The ESET Smart Security Premium and Internet Security product portfolio for home users also includes many established features such as Banking & Payment Protection, Anti-spyware, Anti-Phishing, Exploit Blocker, advanced Personal Firewall, and the ESET LiveGrid Reputation System.

ESET is also consistently successful in independent tests, having received 98 prestigious VB100 awards for its NOD32 antivirus technology, by far the most received by one product. Recently, ESET Smart Security 9 was certified as the only security solution with 100% protection among all products in SE Labs’ Home Anti-Malware Protection test and received the highest score in the AV-Comparatives’ Performance Test across all tested internet security products. ESET was also found to be the undisputed No.1 in Spam Protection, dominating the VBSpam Test and AV-Comparatives Anti-Spam Test.

What’s new in version 10?

Script-Based Attack Protection detects attacks by malicious scripts that try to exploit Windows PowerShell. It also detects malicious JavaScript that can attack via the browser; all major browsers are supported.
Home Network Protection enables users to test home routers vulnerabilities, such as weak passwords or out-of-date firmware, and offers them options for remediation. It also provides an easy-to-access list of connected devices, with devices categorized by type and shows who’s connected. This helps users see how safe their home networks are.
Webcam Protection is a feature that controls processes and applications that access computer connected web cameras and displays notifications when unwanted applications try to access the camera.
ESET Password Manager employs AES‑256 encryption – the world’s leading standard – to store and pre-fill all users’ passwords. It also generates and stores extra-strong new passwords each time the user needs one.
ESET Secure Data protects against data theft in the event of USB-key or laptop loss, and allows for secure collaboration and data sharing.
