The First P2P Diamond Exchange Changes The Global Jewellery Landscape

leave a comment »

HONG KONG /PRNewswire/ — Hong Kong Accredited Diamond Exchange (HKADE — hkade.com.hk), backed by a renown Hong Kong serial entrepreneur Mr. Shih Wing-Ching, provides the first online peer-to-peer (P2P) global diamond marketplace with its reliable verification service and unique features for investment consideration with the support of non-physical settlement.

P2P trend hits the traditional jewellery market

“There is a big gap between the retail price and resale price of diamonds. This is because information about the diamond market is not always clear. But if we directly connect buyers and sellers through the Internet, this price gap can be greatly reduced,” Mr. Shih stated.

At present, the value of diamonds has not been fully realised. But when the resale market is well established, the investment value, resale value and earnings potential are believed to increase. In turn, the demand for diamonds across all markets will go up. It brings good news to jewellers who already have tough competition in the industry.

Peer-to-peer platforms, like Airbnb and Taobao (Alibaba), bring unprecedented benefits to public through disintermediation. This trend finally comes to Jewellery industry. However, end-user-to-end-user connection usually does little control in quality or even authenticity. To address public concern, HKADE provides rigorous verification of every traded diamond with the help of highly-trained experts and GIA equipment. Seller has an option to send the stone for verification before listing or after purchase. An index price also serves as a good online retail price reference. So people without gemmology background can now shop with confidence.

Investing in diamonds is no longer a myth?

Through the decades, people have been seeking a way to make diamond as an investment option, e.g. investing in mines or diamond corporates, diamond ETF, etc. Physical diamond investment seems to be a privilege for gem experts and insiders only. Since HKADE has opened the gate for global public to trade in a resale market, the situation is changing.

HKADE’s secure storage service is tailor-made for potential investors. “Every diamond we store comes with a Safe Keeping Receipt (SKR), which can be instantly verified online as proof of asset ownership. SKRs not only includes all verification data of the stone, but also features a 360-degree video of the diamond, serving as a photo ID. As long as the stone is kept in our custody, users can trade in SKRs more quickly and seamlessly. It is just as easy as trading in gold!”, said Cherry Leong, co-founder of HKADE. In other words, each SKR is physically backed by a real diamond.

The impact brought by innovations to traditional industries is always exciting. After all, people now have a convincing excuse to spend on luxury sparkles!

*HKADE now accepts white diamonds at a minimum size of 0.85 carat with GIA/AGS reports. For more information, please visit http://www.hkade.com.hk or email to services@hkade.com.hk, or call +852-2652-1911.

Johnson Controls’ large-scale steam-driven centrifugal heat pumps — YORK® Titan™ Multi-Stage Centrifugal Heat Pump and YORK Dual Steam Turbine (YDST) Single-Stage Heat Pump — are technologically advanced:

Each heat pump system can supply 100 megawatts, ideal for large-scale central heating applications.
The heat pumps can accept waste hot water as low as 10 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius and increase the temperature up to 110 degrees Celsius.
They have exceptional energy efficiency. Each YDST is estimated to reduce 27,423 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, equivalent to total emissions of 6,771 cars.
They offer great flexibility with open design and options for electric- or steam-drive, meeting the different requirements of diverse applications.
As the manufacturer of the most comprehensive range of heat pumps in China, Johnson Controls provides waste heat recovery systems with capacities ranging from 1.8 megawatts to 100 megawatts, offering optimized solutions for diverse operating conditions. Besides the Titan™ and YDST, the company’s broad product portfolio for waste heat recovery solutions include the CYK compound centrifugal chiller, YK centrifugal chiller as well as absorption chillers that use a unique two-step evaporator and absorber cycle.

Johnson Controls is committed to promoting the waste heat recovery technology, to meet China’s energy restructuring goals. According to the “Implementation Plan of Providing Residential Heating by Waste Heat”, coal-fired boilers in heating systems exceeding 2 billion square meters will be replaced with low-grade waste heat recovery solutions by the end of 2020, reducing coal consumption by more than 50 million tons. Energy restructuring and reducing coal consumption are key to improving China’s air quality.

“The potential of waste heat recovery is huge in China as various sources of waste heat from industrial sectors such as power, steel, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, non-ferrous metals and sewage treatment remain untapped. Not only will waste heat recovery solutions benefit the environment, they can also dramatically reduce the operational costs for companies, and achieve economic efficiency,” said Wu Song, Vice President and Managing Director of Johnson Controls Building Efficiency China. “The waste heat recovery equipment offered by Johnson Controls are designed to operate for over 25 years. Considering its energy saving benefits, the payback period of waste heat recovery equipment can be achieved within 10 to 15 percent of its total life span.”

Johnson Controls was one of the first Energy-Saving Service Companies (ESCO) certified by the State Council of China in 2009, and was honored with the Special Contribution Award for Innovation (HVAC) and Technology & Innovation Award (HVAC) from the China Association of Building Energy Efficiency in 2015.

Veritas and Red Hat Collaborate to Support Requirements for Business Critical Applications on OpenStack

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — Veritas, the leader in information management, and Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced a collaboration aimed at supporting business critical enterprise applications on OpenStack. Building on their long history of technology collaboration focused on business continuity, storage management and data protection solutions for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Virtualization, the two companies plan to work together to offer predictable quality of service to OpenStack applications and workloads, regardless of scale.

Red Hat OpenStack Platform is a highly scalable Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution that enhances OpenStack with advanced features needed for cloud environments. It is a co-engineered solution that integrates the proven foundation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Red Hat’s OpenStack technology to form a stable, high-performing and production-ready cloud environment. Veritas has selected Red Hat OpenStack Platform to build OpenStack solutions that provide a highly predictable quality of service to meet the requirements of business critical workloads with cost-effective direct-attached storage (DAS) using Veritas storage management technologies. Through the collaboration, Veritas aims to bring the ability to execute data protection tasks through integration with backup software without impacting production operations to Red Hat OpenStack Platform environments.

“Red Hat OpenStack Platform is a leading production-ready OpenStack distribution for enterprises for their private cloud infrastructure. We are working with Red Hat so that organizations can confidently adopt OpenStack for their most demanding enterprise workloads,” said Mike Palmer, Senior Vice President, Solutions for Data Insight and Orchestration, Veritas.

OpenStack has quickly gained traction as a cloud platform framework of choice for customers seeking agile, cost-effective and open source solutions. Indeed, the platform has seen increased penetration, with the 2016 OpenStack User Survey indicating production use of OpenStack at 65%, up from 33% two years ago. Yet organizations can still face challenges when it comes to executing their traditional, Mode 1 enterprise workloads on OpenStack due to the high performance and reliability requirements. Effective storage management that offers the necessary quality of service—regardless of scale—is a key part of successfully adopting OpenStack for these enterprise production workloads.

“Red Hat OpenStack Platform is in production across hundreds of customers, spanning multiple verticals. We are delighted to collaborate with Veritas to bring enterprise customers more choice and draw on their long legacy of enterprise storage management, resiliency and data protection to help our customers address the performance and reliability requirements of traditional tier 1 workloads running on Red Hat OpenStack Platform,” commented Radhesh Balakrishnan, General Manager, OpenStack, Red Hat.

“The quality of service or ‘noisy neighbor’ challenge is one of the key issues enterprises face as they look to deploy workloads on OpenStack. Veritas’s ability to address this can give customers the confidence to deploy their mode 1 apps on OpenStack knowing that they can have the performance and resiliency they need,” Scott Sinclair, Senior Analyst, ESG.

Veritas Accelerates Digital Business Transformation with New Cloud Data Management Solutions

leave a comment »

-New solutions advance data protection, storage management, high availability and application performance for hybrid cloud environments

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — Veritas Technologies, the leader in information management, today announced its vision for a sweeping range of new solutions for cloud data management designed to help organizations as they transform to digital businesses. The new solutions will address the three foundational pillars for comprehensive enterprise data management: data protection, data availability and data insight. With its new cloud data management solutions, Veritas will help organizations manage the IT complexity of hybrid clouds with new capabilities that help them drive more value from their data while reducing cost and business risk.

“The opportunity to leverage data is hindered by the fact that it’s stored in many places, making it difficult for organizations to manage and govern,” said Ana Pinczuk, Chief Product Officer at Veritas. “In a world of digital transformation where information is everything, data becomes your key business asset. Data is growing exponentially and you can’t solve that with hardware. A software-driven approach, which completely abstracts information from infrastructure, is the only path forward. Veritas’ data management solutions help organizations achieve data protection, business resiliency and regulatory readiness across heterogeneous environments, whether on-premises or in the cloud.”

Data Protection

Efficient Backup and Recovery with Support for a Broad Range of Cloud Environments

Organizations want to seamlessly move data to and from the cloud to take advantage of the added operational efficiencies and flexibility delivered by cloud environments. It is critical that organizations remain confident their data is protected as their cloud investments continue to grow. Building on existing support for cloud providers that include Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google, future releases of Veritas NetBackup will add connector capabilities to Microsoft Azure and OpenStack clouds. NetBackup is expected to provide the enhanced cloud connector capabilities in the coming quarters.

Data Availability

Enterprise Grade Power for OpenStack Private Cloud Environments

While OpenStack delivers flexibility and agility, application performance concerns and noisy neighbor challenges can cause enterprises to hesitate when it comes to deploying their business critical applications on OpenStack. Veritas is aligning with the open source community to help OpenStack users reap the benefits of a software-defined future. The new Veritas HyperScale for OpenStack software defined storage solution will allow organizations to confidently deploy their OLTP tier one and tier two applications on OpenStack environments and ensure storage quality of service and application resiliency. HyperScale for OpenStack employs a revolutionary architecture that provides policy-based workload deployment, offloads backups and snapshots from compute resources, and can perform live migrations in case of storage and network failures. HyperScale’s software-defined approach achieves superior performance versus cost. Veritas HyperScale for OpenStack will be available in the coming quarters. Enterprises can incorporate this HyperScale for OpenStack release in pre-production use as they look to undertake their overall OpenStack journey to scale.

Software-Defined Storage with Resiliency and Performance at Scale

Organizations continue to generate data at a phenomenal rate, often by legacy applications architected for network attached storage (NAS). This creates high storage expense as well as performance issues for new analytics applications that require low latency and access the same data. The new Veritas Access provides seamless accessibility to data wherever it resides—on or off premise, in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or in new OpenStack clouds. Organizations can achieve cost savings by moving unused data to lower cost storage tiers or the cloud without manual intervention. An automated policy engine based on file metadata—such as file type or age—can move data to public clouds such as AWS. Data can be brought back quickly when required so only ‘hot’ data uses more expensive storage. Veritas Access can be installed in any commodity x86 hardware and is available in controlled release.

Scalable Hybrid Cloud Resiliency for Today’s 24×7 Organization

More than ever, organizations need to ensure business resiliency to protect their revenue, brand and reputation. Many organizations use NetBackup Auto Image Replication to move data from one data center to another in the event recovery is needed. In the new releases, NetBackup will integrate with Veritas Resiliency Platform 2.1 so IT can orchestrate complex recoveries for thousands of virtual machines with single-click automation. Resiliency Platform allows organizations to implement a unified resiliency strategy for complex, multi-platform and multi-vendor hybrid cloud environments.

Data Insight

Delivering Protection with Integrated Visibility to Reduce Risk and Costs

Designed for the hybrid cloud, Veritas NetBackup delivers agility and increases efficiency by providing an integrated solution for data protection, recovery and insight into an organizations unstructured data. Enterprises need visibility into their data to understand its value or, in some cases, liability. Together NetBackup and Information Map are the first solution to integrate data visibility and data protection, addressing the mounting challenges enterprises face managing unclassified, dark data. Veritas Information Map is fully integrated with NetBackup to provide a visual experience for the IT team to gain insight into the organization’s unstructured data and global data environment. Organizations are now empowered to properly assign backup policies to protect and store the data that is most valuable to their business. This enables organizations to make better decisions on what data is valuable for their business. Veritas Information Map is available now. A free trial of Information Map with NetBackup allows businesses to quickly and simply identify opportunities to optimize information storage and reduce information risk in as little as 24 hours.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia /PRNewswire/ — Fusionex, a multi-award-winning, leading software solutions provider specializing in Big Data Analytics (BDA), the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, has put out a nationwide call for companies to put their vast untapped data sets to good use. A number of Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) companies converged at the Fusionex office recently where they discovered how to derive optimal value out of their data.

The Fusionex Technology Adoption Event hosted a range of entities that have received MSC status. The status is awarded by the Government of Malaysia through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), for worthy ICT and ICT-facilitated businesses that develop or use multimedia technologies to produce or enhance their products and services.

This joint event between Fusionex and MDEC was specifically catered to MSC companies that are interested to embrace BDA technology but are clueless on how to do it, where to start and what resources are required. Having attended this event, MSC companies now better understand BDA, how best to adopt it and are better equipped to begin their very own BDA journey.

During the event, Fusionex subject matter experts shared with participants an overview of BDA, use cases and a demo of the Fusionex’s internationally acclaimed BDA platform, GIANT. This end-to-end software stands to give participants the most complete BDA experience they can get, packaged in the most user-friendly manner for fast and easy adoption.

Fusionex also shared with event participants about various incentive programs offered by the software company which could help ease the deployment period for companies adopting BDA technology. Amongst the programs covered were the Fusionex Channel Partner Program and the Fusionex Quick Start Program. These programs include specific incentives for systems integrator (SI) partners, hardware partners, and independent software vendor (ISV) partners. These programs would allow for partners to bundle their software with Fusionex solutions.

Jacob Isaac, Fusionex Vice President, Products & Solutions commented: “This event marks a continuous effort by Fusionex to elevate the efficiency and competitiveness of companies via the adoption of Big Data Analytics. We are thrilled to have hosted a wide group of companies that have achieved much in their own right as MSC organizations. We hope that following the session, these companies will take advantage of under-utilized data, which would go a long way towards the bringing about of additional success stories.”
