NIRA Dynamics Expand Their Cloud Solution to Create New Possibilities for Tomorrow’s Autonomous Cars

leave a comment »

LINKÖPING, Sweden /PRNewswire/ —

For an autonomous car to know what distance it must keep to the car in front of it, it needs information about the current road conditions. If the vehicle is also aware of the road surface quality, risks are reduced even further. NIRA Dynamics’ software Road Surface Information, and the cloud solution Cloud by NIRA, enable just that – and now, in cooperation with Infocar, the company is taking the next step in the rollout of the solution.

Road Surface Information continuously monitors the quality of the road surface, detecting changing road conditions, pits and pot-holes, and different levels of road roughness. Because the software makes use of the car’s existing sensors to draw conclusions about the road conditions, no additional hardware is required, making it a cost-efficient solution.

In order to meet the growing interest in advanced driver assistance features, the software has been further developed to be able to collect relevant road data via the car’s OBD interface. Last winter, approximately 10 000 kilometers of road data were gathered this way, and in the summer of 2016, NIRA, in cooperation with Infocar AB, will be taking the next step in their data collection. The collection rate then gets multiplied by up to 24 000 kilometers of road data – per day.

Thanks to NIRA’s own cloud solution, Cloud by NIRA, this data can be used by drivers, driver assistance systems and road authorities. It can also be used as real-time weather-based navigation data. In the future, this data will also help contribute to safer self-driving cars.

ABOUT NIRA: Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Sweden, NIRA Dynamics is at the forefront of sensor fusion, providing cost-efficient, value-adding software products and services to the global vehicle industry. Customers include some of the world’s leading car manufacturers, such as Audi, Fiat, Renault, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen and Volvo Cars.

Medical Tourism Industry Valued at $439B; Poised for 25% Year-Over-Year Growth by 2025

leave a comment »

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. /PRNewswire/ — In a just released report issued by VISA and Oxford Economics, the Medical Tourism industry was valued at a staggering USD 439 billion, with a projected growth rate of up to 25% year-over-year for the next 10 years as an estimated three to four percent of the world’s population will travel internationally for healthcare and health-related treatment.

Photo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20160724/392391-INFO

For years the medical travel industry seemed undervalued, yet VISA’s report accounts for growth factors – like some 340 new international airports over the next decade – and the medical travel market could soar to an astronomical USD 3 trillion by 2025.

In its just-released 2016 report, industry-leading journal, Medical Tourism Index™ (MTI), listed the top 41 destinations for those seeking value-added services and high quality of healthcare across the globe. In it, the similar pattern of global growth emerges: that the United States leads in terms of market share of healthcare travel spending, but Asia’s Thailand, Singapore and South Korea continue to thrive. Both VISA’s and MTI’s™ findings expect China to overtake the US spot within the next 10 years due to the population’s demand for higher quality of care.

The findings don’t just span the global spectrum but also the age spectrum as well; VISA expects 13 percent of all international travel by 2025 to be older travelers. Meanwhile, a recent survey of 31,000 18-34 year olds from 134 countries by popular booking site TopDeck Travel found that some 88% of them travel internationally between 1 to 3 times annually and that the number only continues to grow.

“The borders to quality healthcare access have begun to dissintegrate.” MTI™ Co-Authors, Renée-Marie Stephano, JD President of the Medical Tourism Association and Mark Fetscherin, Associate Professor of International Business and Marketing at Rollins College, said a joint statement. “Speculation about the medical tourism industry as a ‘phenomenon’ is over. This report and the rankings of the the Medical Tourism Index™ provide a unique opportunity for investors seeking new ventures to make smart choices in destinations driving patient travel.”

The entire medical tourism and health tourism industry will descend upon Washington, D.C., September 25-28, 2016 for the 9th World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress. Over 3,000 attendees from 50+ countries brought USD 1 billion in new deals last year paving the way for leaders this year to catch the next wave in partnerships and medical tourism investment.

In a conclusion, VISA said, “We believe that medical tourism is primed for accelerated growth as more of these travelers seek new treatments, as well as lower cost or higher-quality care not available in their home country.”

-World’s First Fully Integrated, Turnkey FSRU Terminal
DHAKA, Bangladesh /PRNewswire/ — On July 18, 2016, Excelerate Energy L.P. (“Excelerate”), Petrobangla, and the Government of Bangladesh executed the Terminal Use Agreement (“TUA”) and the Implementation Agreement (“IA”) for the construction and operation of Bangladesh’s first LNG import terminal — Moheshkhali Floating LNG. Located offshore near Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal, the terminal will provide the crucial infrastructure required for the country to access natural gas from global markets. The signing of the agreements signals the commencement of the project and the approval to move forward to implementation. The terminal is expected to be in operation in 2018.

The project is a result of the collaboration between Excelerate, Petrobangla, and IFC, a member of World Bank. Among the executives and government officials present for the event were Excelerate Chief Development Officer Mr. Daniel Bustos, Petrobangla Chairman Mr. Istiaque Ahmad, and the Honorable Advisor to the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Tawiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikrom. Also in attendance were representatives of IFC, who is delegated to provide and arrange the required financing for the terminal.

“This innovative project would not be possible without the critical support and collaboration of Petrobangla and the Government of Bangladesh,” stated Mr. Bustos. “The signing of these agreements not only authorizes Excelerate to begin developing this vital project, but it also demonstrates the trust bestowed upon us by Petrobangla and the nation. We are confident our experience and expertise in delivering floating regasification solutions in a cost-effective and timely manner ensure we will provide an efficient and reliable project for Bangladesh.”

The new terminal will enable Petrobangla to procure LNG from international gas markets which will further complement and enhance Bangladesh’s ability to reliably use the country’s domestic natural gas reserves. Expanding access to diverse and abundant sources of natural gas supply will promote power reliability, industrial development, and job creation in the region.

Moheshkhali Floating LNG will be the world’s first fully integrated turnkey floating LNG terminal whereby all services will be provided under a single contract by a single provider — Excelerate Energy. Excelerate will fully develop, design, construct, install, finance, and operate the terminal. This structure will allow for a single point of interface and responsibility to Petrobangla and provide seamless operations for the Bangladeshi market. Excelerate will operate the terminal for 15 years, after which the company will transfer ownership to Petrobangla.

The terminal will include the provision of one of Excelerate’s existing floating storage and regasification units (FSRU), the installation of a subsea buoy system anchored offshore, and the employment of port service vessels during operation. The FSRU will have 138,000 cubic meters of LNG storage capacity and a base regasification capacity of 500 million standard cubic feet per day.

Bluetooth 5 Evolution Will Lead to Widespread Deployments on the IoT Landscape

leave a comment »

LONDON /PRNewswire/ — With the new technical enhancements enabled by Bluetooth 5, mesh networking, and IP support for existing Bluetooth Low Energy chipsets, ABI Research forecasts Bluetooth-enabled device shipments will increase by an average of half a billion per year through 2021, reaching more than five billion. Bluetooth will extend beyond cable replacements and smartphones to branch out into the wider IoT landscape and result in the development of larger scale networks that no longer rely on the smartphone as a hub.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20151014/276887LOGO

“Bluetooth is evolving from a smartphone and personal area network solution to a scalable, low-power wireless networking technology,” says Andrew Zignani, Industry Analyst at ABI Research. “This development will unlock growth in beacons, home automation, building automation, lighting, and other smart city applications over the next decade and beyond.”

Bluetooth Smart or Smart Ready devices, combined with market growth in the connected home for speakers, remote controls, smart televisions, and game consoles, has, and will continue to, help drive the market to much greater scale in the coming years.

By 2021, smartphones will still account for 40% of Bluetooth product shipments, but this will represent a 12% drop in volume share from 2015. This significant portion of the market will continue to drive the mobile accessory market, the second largest portion of devices at this time. And as mobile and computing devices rely less on physical ports, notably headphone jacks, Bluetooth accessories will further climb in volume share, expected to capture 13% of total Bluetooth product shipments by 2021.

But it is beacons that represent one of the largest opportunities for Bluetooth-enabled devices. By 2021, it will be the third largest market for Bluetooth devices, and the fastest growing of all segments. The smart home market will also see significant growth, though it will still take some time to mature. Its major advancement will stem from home automation devices, smart lighting, and smart appliances.

“As we move forward, Bluetooth will gain market share at the expense of low data rate technologies, like Thread, ZigBee, and Z-Wave, and power hungry technologies like Wi-Fi,” concludes Zignani. “While the ubiquitous presence of Bluetooth in smartphones is critical in the short to medium term, mesh networking and other new features will help Bluetooth take advantage of new opportunities across the IoT in the years ahead.”

These findings are from ABI Research’s Bluetooth (https://www.abiresearch.com/market-research/product/1023547-bluetooth/) market research. This report is part of the company’s Semiconductors sector (https://www.abiresearch.com/market-research/practice/semiconductors/), which includes research, data, and analyst insights.

New Index Shows that Countries Need to Act Urgently to Achieve the Global Goals

leave a comment »

GÜTERSLOH, Germany and NEW YORK /PRNewswire/ —

One year after the largest UN Summit in history adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the new SDG Index and Dashboard show that all countries face major challenges in achieving these ambitious goals by 2030. No country has achieved the SDGs and even top Sweden scores “red” on several goals

One year ago, world leaders from 193 UN member countries met in New York for the largest summit in history and committed themselves to 17 Sustainable Development Goals, a set of ambitious objectives across the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic development, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. Today the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Bertelsmann Stiftung launched a new Sustainable Development Goal Index and Dashboard to provide a report card for tracking SDG progress and ensuring accountability. The report shows how leaders can deliver on their promise and it urges countries not to lose the momentum for important reforms. The SDG Index and Dashboard collect available data for 149 countries to assess where each country stands in 2016 with regard to achieving the SDGs.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20160712/388809-INFO )

The countries which are closest to fulfilling the goals are not the biggest economies but comparably small, developed countries: Sweden, Denmark and Norway are the top three performing countries. Germany and the United Kingdom are the only G7 countries to be found among the top-ten. The United States ranks 25th on the Index, while the Russian Federation and China rank 47th and 76th, respectively. Poor and developing countries understandably score lowest on the SDG Index as they have comparably little resources at their disposal: The Central African Republic, Chad and Niger are at the bottom of the Index and still have the longest way to go in achieving the SDGs.

The report highlights major challenges per region: OECD countries struggle to meet the goals on inequality, sustainable consumption, climate change and ecosystems, while many developing countries face major difficulties in providing basic social services and infrastructure access to their populations. East and South Asia outperform many other developing regions but unmet challenges persist in health and education. For Latin America and the Caribbean, high levels of inequality are among the most pressing issues. In spite of significant progress in recent years in Sub-Saharan Africa, the world’s poorest region faces major challenges across almost all SDGs, with extreme poverty, hunger and health as major areas where substantial improvement is needed.

“World leaders have talked the talk at the historic summit last year. Now we must ensure they also walk the walk. The first years of implementation will be crucial for fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030,” says Aart De Geus, CEO and Chairman of the Bertelsmann Stiftung.

“The Sustainable Development Goals are stretch goals, but they are within reach if countries work towards them with clarity and determination. The SDG Index and Dashboard can help each country to chart out a practical path for achieving the Goals,” says Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of the SDSN.

About the study

On the occasion of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and the ministerial gathering in New York (July 18 – 20 2016) the Bertelsmann Stiftung and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) present the world’s first comparative study of the Sustainable Development Goals for 149 countries. SDSN is an association of research institutes formed to support the new UN objectives. The Bertelsmann Stiftung is one of the largest foundations in Germany. It works to promote social inclusion for everyone.
