Keep Walking Colombia: 6,000 Colombians Unite in Nudity and Make a Stand for Peace

New film from Bogota’s Museum of Modern Art and Johnnie Walker® tells the human stories of progress and hope from the front line of the Colombian civil war

“Right wing or left wing, nude we are equal,” says Wilson Barreto.

Wilson was blinded by a FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) bomb attack in Bogota when he was just 19. He is one of more than 6,000 people from all sides of the Colombian civil war who posed nude at Bolívar Square, Bogota, to make a stand for peace in a unifying art installation by renowned American photographer Spencer Tunick.



The installation – Tunick’s largest in six years – captured the optimistic mood of a nation on the road to peace and is the inspiration for the short documentary film Keep Walking Colombia, from Bogota’s Museum of Modern Art (MAMBO) and Johnnie Walker®.

Released to coincide with Colombian Independence Day (July 20) – a day that marks Colombia’s Declaration of Independence from Spain – Keep Walking Colombia charts the stories of five Colombians as they take part in the creation of the art installation and iconic photograph.

In the film, Wilson stands with Luis, the FARC commander responsible for the bomb attack that cost him his sight – a man he now considers a very good friend. Wilson features in the powerful short film alongside civilian victim Pilar Navarrete, ex-army officer Pablo Emilio Moncayo, ex-right wing paramilitary activist Ederlidia Garizao and Maria Esperanza Sierra, a former FARC combatant.

Pilar Navarrete’s husband disappeared during the siege at the Palace of Justice in Bogota in 1985 and his body was never found. Pilar said of her participation in the nude photograph and documentary: “I feel like I’m paying homage. I’m going to bare my soul and my body and tell everyone about Hector Jaime Beltrán.

“I’m very proud of the Colombian people. We’ve experienced a lot of pain but we are still smiling. We want and aim to be a country that includes everybody.”

Pablo Moncayo, who was held captive by FARC for 12 years, said: “We are all equal. Whatever differences you may see, we all have blood in our veins; we are all made of skin and bones.”

The five-story, single-tenant building near Route 3 and Route 128 in Burlington is being built by The Gutierrez Company. The project includes an opportunity to expand an additional 70,000 square feet. Merck leases the property.

Merck will maintain its other North American life science hub in St. Louis, Missouri.

Earthquake Tragedy Bridges Two Continents

LAGOS, Nigeria /PRNewswire/ —


On April 16th 2016, the nation, Ecuador was hit by a colossal earthquake of magnitude 7.8. The severity of the disaster reverberated throughout the entire country, leaving at least 500 dead and 27,500 injured. Moved by the plight of Ecuadorians, T.B. Joshua – Founder of Emmanuel TV – sent a relief team to Esmeraldas Province, Ecuador and dispatched a Boeing 727 Cargo Plane, which contained 20 tons of relief hygiene materials, perishable, and non-perishable food stuff.

Upon arrival, the relief and aid supplies were received by representatives of the Minister of Defense on behalf of the people of Ecuador. The Armed Forces of Ecuador loaded the aid into army trucks and transported to the Emmanuel TV Operations Center, situated close to Esmeraldas City. The supplies were offloaded, repackaged, and distributed to various shelter camps in the Esmeraldas Province.

The Emmanuel TV Team also extended its relief efforts to a remote village, Chachi de San Salvador, which had also been gravely affected by the quake in the areas of access to clean water and the destruction of its local school. In response to this particular community’s needs, the Team supplied the community with equipment that converts river and unclean water into potable water. The Team is also undergoing a school construction project – at a cost of US$262,000 – to rebuild the entire school complex that was destroyed. The reconstructed school will provide learning facilities for 350 students.

The people of Ecuador, as well as its Government, continue to express their gratitude for the Emmanuel TV Ecuador Relief efforts. A grateful beneficiary, from the Chachi community, said: “This is the first aid we have received from another country”. The relief efforts have aided over 5,000 Ecuadorians, totaling over half a million US Dollars.

As Global Tablet Market Tumbles, PC Brands Develop Survival Tactics to Cope

LONDON /PRNewswire/ — Downward trends in tablet shipments, with Apple and Samsung YoY shipments falling from 62% to 54% as the market shrinks, are forcing PC brands to strategize survival tactics for their product portfolios, finds ABI Research. While Amazon and Huawei will focus on tablets despite the dwindling figures, not all vendors share this mentality. Dell and HP, for instance, made the decision to shy away from the tablet market and will instead concentrate on providing 2-in-1 systems based on Windows.

“Amazon and Huawei may successfully buck the trend, but each company is taking a drastically different stance on how to best accomplish this,” says David McQueen, Research Director at ABI Research. “Amazon managed to move away from raising revenue through hardware to recurring digital content sales, but Huawei, and even Lenovo for that matter, are instead looking to form a wider product suite that includes tablets in addition to their legacy PC and smartphone products.”

Xiaomi also plans to follow in Huawei and Lenovo’s footsteps, recently announcing a tie-up with Microsoft to ship Microsoft Office and Skype on Xiaomi’s Android smartphones and tablets. And ABI Research predicts Dell’s and HP’s strategies, though they differ from the former trend, will work since each company is targeting the enterprise upgrade market, an area in which Apple has yet to launch product. 2-in-1 devices are thought to provide a better productivity experience in enterprise, as they offer users the best of both the tablet and laptop worlds. Their full QWERTY hard keyboards, folding form factors, productivity apps, and larger screens fuel their demand in the workforce.

“As tablet hardware continues to decline, vendors that can control software, services, and the ecosystem will win out,” concludes McQueen. “There is still room in the mid-term for shipment growth in areas where the confluence of the tablet and laptop can be exploited to stimulate demand in the growing PC replacement market. Driving this movement will be enhancements in operating systems and improvements to enterprise productivity.”
