A Little Wi-Fi Magic Makes Happy Guests

leave a comment »

COPENHAGEN, Denmark /PRNewswire/ — For frequent travellers it can be frustrating how bad the Wi-Fi in 90% of hotels still is. Even the newest and most luxury hotels often fail to deliver on what is effectively an essential service. In many cases free Wi-Fi means that the hotel knows it is so bad they cannot charge you for it, and as a guest you cannot complain because it is free.

“High speed internet access is key for our ever increasingly mobile world. Over 90% of business travelers carry a laptop or tablet with them and a huge number of non-business travelers are constantly connected to social media via tablets or mobile devices. The key to building a relationship with guests is to understand and meet their needs. High speed complimentary internet access with no data limit, and a seamless experience is essential for Corinthia Hotels around the globe. The vision for Corinthia Hotels is to provide our guests with the speed, dependability, and convenience that their office or home network provides,” explain Michaell Izzo, Finance Director, Corinthia Hotel London.

Corinthia is just one of many leading hotel chains that have turned to Danmagi, an international company, originated in Denmark. The company have achieved high growth rates by following a simple recipe: deliver a solution that makes hotel guests happy and more loyal as well as making the Wi-Fi solution and services a profit center for the hotels.

The Danmagi service seems to pride itself on the fact there is no need to download an app, it requires little effort and is supported proactively.

Over the last year several well-known hospitality names have switched to Danmagi. The company has recently opened operations in North American as growth continues. This is on top of its already expanding operations in Latin America, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.  “This year expansion in the Middle East has sudden jumped for us,” says Daniel Lister, CEO Danmagi “It is a bit like we saw in Europe last year as word of mouth about our service between the hotels got around. We were approached by several hotels wanting what Firmdale Hotels have,” he explains.

However you do not have to search far to discover why Danmagi is confident. This relatively new company with their disruptive cloud based solution is making visible waves. Since the end of 2014, they have successfully held the number 1 position for best Wi-Fi on in London and continuously since then have had no fewer than 5 of the top ten positions and that is not a small feat considering the number of Wi-Fi providers and self solutions available to the hotels in London.

Mark Rupert Read, Director of IT at Firmdale Hotels in itself a highly successful brand of luxury boutique hotels inLondon & New York, explains one feature of the Danmagi solution that matched his strategy.

“Danmagi has several good and unique features but one we really like allows us to recognise returning guests, by remembering their devices and connecting them to the internet seamlessly. The feature is well designed and brings real value to both our guests and our brand. Our clients like the convenience too.” He continues, “It removes frustration on arrival and clearly allows the guest to connect all their devices in one simple process.”

The solution is a hit with the guests too as the comment below from a guest staying in Crosby Street Hotel, New York wrote:

“To be specific, as you know when you sign in to the Wi-Fi system with your laptop your software lists the other laptops/iPads/iPhones previously used and with a single click you can register them. This is a very, very good design, so congratulations.”

As Daniel is quick to point out, Danmagi have taken the necessary time to design things well technically, in the methodology & processes and making them pleasing on the eye. It is very important these days that systems are easy to use and you do not need to download anything to make it work, it should just work and work so well that the guests do not even know they are using it.

Daniel jokes: “Danmagi is only doing what Danish design did to the furniture world years ago. Now we are using Danish design to create easy connectivity and ease of use which places it in a class of its own.”

The reality is that Danmagi is not only Danish but is an exciting International company that has a global pool of talented staff in several countries who are all working hard on improving the performance of service and adding new and exciting features. Daniel would not reveal any clues about their road map when asked but a confident smile gives a clue that the Danmagi team are not satisfied with upsetting the traditional Wi-Fi providers. They are planning much more than to dominate the industry. They focus on the guest and want to remove travellers’ internet frustrations for good.

Several of the Danmagi customers we spoke to confirmed seeing internet issues and guest complaints dropping as much as 93% from that of their previous provider. This almost sounds unbelievable but the more you talk to their customers, the more you hear the same story of significant changes. The latest hotel in London to turn to Danmagi is the Corinthia Hotel London. They too were very happy to point out the significant change in service and of guest issues disappearing overnight.

Michael Izzo, Corinthia Hotels said:

“Recent research has shown that there is only one thing guests would prefer over complimentary breakfast or free parking, and that is Wi-Fi. It is the first thing that a guest will try on arrival and due to this Corinthia Hotel London has recently upgraded its internet/Wi-Fi. Since the service upgrade to Danmagi, the end user experience of accessing the hotel’s internet service is a seamless process for all types of devices. Since its relaunch we have had no negative guest feedback so this is a good indication of a well-designed and slick internet service.

“Danmagi provides an advanced and smooth user experience with a dynamic and interactive branding portal. Corinthia Hotel London is very happy to have selected Danmagi as our guest internet service provider. The system delivery was very well planned and the help desk staff service should be commended for their knowledge and professionalism. Danmagi provides a cloud based service which can be monitored from anywhere in the world using any mobile device. We would certainly recommend Danmagi as a preferred solution provider.”

It seems that Danmagi is onto something good and hopefully the next hotel you stay in will have their service.

Batman v Superman: G2A Proves Once Again That Gamers Have Hearts!

RZESZÓW, Poland, LONDON and HONG KONG /PRNewswire/ —

G2A.COM is a multi-award-winning marketplace with over 30 000 digital gaming products. As part of its ongoing commitment to Virtual Reality research and development, G2A has worked with leading computer hardware manufacturer MSI to create an application using Virtual Reality technology to promote the ‘Batman v. Superman’movie. It is called the ‘Gotham VR’ application and allows players to drive the Batman’s motorcycle and see Gotham City.

As the world’s fastest-growing digital gaming marketplace, G2A commits to contribute in cash and kind to community initiatives. G2A’s recent co-operation with MSI and Gaming for Good charity gave a unique opportunity for gaming enthusiasts to support Save the Children. MSI prepared a special item for the charity auction hosted on the Gaming for Good website: the community-voted #1, a custom-made PC and casemod promoting “Batman v Superman” (Batmobile2k16 by Babetech Custom PC, 1:7 scale).

With over 105 donors and a ‘highest bid’ of $2500, another great charity event ended happily with $4,704.90 donated to Save the Children, an international non-governmental organization that promotes children’s rights, provides relief and helps support children in developing countries. The Gaming for Good online platform raises money for charitable organizations.

During 2014-2015, the G2A community raised over $500 000 for ‘Save the Children’. US Aid amplified this to $5 million  for Save The Children.

One of G2A’s many contributions to the charity includes a specifically developed payment ecosystem – winner of ‘Outstanding New Product/ Service’ – G2A Pay.  Commenting on the recent win Global Excellence Award in the Outstanding New Product/Service category, the chairman of the judges said, in part: “Digital gaming marketplace G2A.COM, with 10 million clients worldwide, has experienced incredible success and growth.”

Dawid Rozek, co-founder and CMO of G2A, added: “G2A Pay has been implemented on the Gaming for Good website because G2A Pay gives gamers around the world a variety of methods to donate to these good causes.” G2A, using the G2A Pay innovation, recently enabled Gaming for Good and gamers to collectively contribute $390 000 to help combat the drought in Ethiopia for a Save the Children led project.

“It always makes me happy to see the gaming community giving back to others. We are constantly looking to find the best methods to engage our communities and to develop our Gaming for Good projects,” said Reese Leysen of Gaming for Good.

Dawid said: “Great thanks to all who contributed!”

Oxitec Expands Vector Control Solution in Brazil

leave a comment »

OXFORD, England /PRNewswire/ — Oxitec and Piracicaba City Hall have today finalized their multi-year expansion of the ‘Friendly Aedes aegypti Project’ to cover an area of 60,000 people in the center of the city of Piracicaba, Brazil.  Due to the large number of people who travel through this region, this project may also benefit neighbouring areas of the city. Additionally, the initial project, which has been deploying Oxitec’s OX513A solution in an area of 5,000 people in the CECAP/Eldorado district since April 2015, has been extended.

“Piracicaba’s decision to broaden the reach of our project demonstrates their confidence in our innovative vector control solution and is an important step forward in the effort to combat the dangerous Aedes aegypti mosquito, and the viruses it transmits, in a highly targeted and environmentally safe manner,” said Oxitec Chief Executive OfficerHadyn Parry.  “We have a cost-effective solution that is proven and ready to be deployed to make a real impact in saving lives and protecting economies.”

It is estimated that up to half of the world’s population lives alongside the dangerous Aedes aegypti mosquitoes which are the primary vector for dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus — some of the most damaging arboviruses to public health and economies of nations. For Brazil in particular, this mosquito has become an increasing health risk given the significant incidence of dengue as well as the rise in Zika and chikungunya infections.  The Zika virus has been linked to birth defects such as microcephaly, and all three viruses cause a number of neurological disorders such as acute myelitis, meningoencephalitis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Efficacy trials of Oxitec’s genetically engineered OX513A mosquito across Brazil, Panama and the Cayman Islandsall resulted in a greater than 90% suppression of the wild Ae. aegypti mosquito population – an unprecedented level of control. Oxitec’s solution was recently recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for deployment in operational conditions, and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recently declared it will provide technical support for countries that wish to implement OX513A in the fight against this menacing mosquito.

Under the terms of the expansion/extension agreement, Oxitec will deploy its ‘Friendly Aedes aegypti control solution near the center of the city of Piracicaba for two years, and continue to protect people in the CECAP/Eldorado district for another year.  To support this growing program and to meet increasing demand for its proprietary vector control solution, Oxitec is building a new mosquito production facility in Piracicaba that will generate many jobs in the region.  This facility will have the capacity to produce 60 million Oxitec male mosquitoes a week to help protect over 300,000 people.

The Health Secretary of Piracicaba, Pedro Mello, commented, “It is with great joy that we signed this contract. It’s one more step we take towards making the city of Piracicaba the first in the world to rid itself of this mosquito that has caused so much harm to millions of people worldwide. From July 2014 to 2015, CECAP/Eldorado had 133 dengue fever cases.  From July 2015 to May 20th, 2016, the same neighborhood had only 7 confirmed cases.  Importantly we are doing this with a technology that is innovative, clean, environmentally friendly and sustainable.”

About Oxitec

Oxitec is the only GM insect company in the world and a pioneer in using genetic engineering to control insect pests that spread disease and damage crops. Oxitec was founded in 2002 as a spinout from Oxford University (UK), and is now a subsidiary of Intrexon Corporation (NYSE: XON), which engineers biology to help solve some of the world’s biggest problems. Oxitec’s self-limiting insect control targets only the one species of pest in a way that is non-toxic and pesticide-free, providing vector control that is both effective and environmentally friendly.  Follow us on Twitter at @Oxitec.

Fourth International FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP Forum Brings Together Young Footballers from Three Continents

leave a comment »

MOSCOW /PRNewswire/ — Milan hosted today the Fourth International Children’s Forum as part of FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP, Gazprom’s large-scale social project, which is aimed at developing youth football and fostering tolerance and respect toward different cultures and ethnicities. This year, the Forum brought together young football players from Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.

The Forum’s participants met with Franz Beckenbauer, the Global Ambassador of the FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP project, FC Schalke 04’s midfielders Maximilian Meyer and Leon Goretzka, and Michel Salgado, UEFA Ambassador at the Forum.

The Forum culminated with the awarding of the Nine Values Cup. This unique prize is presented annually to a professional football club for outstanding achievements in social responsibility. This year, the Cup was awarded to FC Bayern Munich. The FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP project’s participants commended the football club for its support of children with disabilities, its healthcare initiatives aimed at children in different countries, and its assistance to those in need.

The Forum concluded with the final match of the International Street Football Tournament for children. Slovenian FC Maribor took home the first prize.

Over 200 journalists from the world’s leading media covered the Forum, as did young reporters from participating countries who worked at the International Children’s Press Center.

“Thirty-two countries are taking part in the FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP project. Among them are Syria andTurkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The number of participants is growing every year. It means that children value peace and friendship above all else, regardless of cultural and traditional differences. Not only do boys and girls learn to respect one another, but also they themselves become the champions of fundamental human values. The FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP project helps them achieve that. I am convinced that together we will make the world a better place,” said Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee.

“For several years it has been my pleasure to support as global ambassador the FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP program, which is promoting key human values, important for wellbeing of any society. This is why now I’m especially glad to know that the award, which impersonates the F4F program, its goals and targets, is granted to Bayern Munich. The Nine Values Cup is an appraisal made by the most open-minded audience, children. This makes the Cup an especially valuable award for any club,” said Franz Beckenbauer.

Products Must Be Certified to Updated CCC Implementation Rules for Motor Vehicles and Safety Accessories by Year End

leave a comment »

HONG KONG /PRNewswire/ — The Nanjing Branch of the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) hosted a two-day training workshop on the updated China Compulsory Certification (CCC) implementation rules for motor vehicles and safety accessories on May 19-20. Qing Gu, Manager for Transport Services at TUV Rheinland Greater China (“TUV Rheinland”), served as the instructor for the international certification component of the training workshop. Nearly 100 participants from 60 companies took part in the workshop, which generated strong interest among participants who engaged in in-depth exchange with the instructors.

Ensuring successful transition for CoP control plans

To strengthen reforms and systematically implement the compulsory product certification system, CQC implementation rules for motor vehicles and safety accessories were revised by the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA) and officially took effect on January 1, 2015. Products covered by the updated implementation rules include motor vehicle and safety accessories such as automotive interior accessories, automotive lighting, seat belts, door locks, fuel tanks, seats, and brake hoses. Companies involved with motor vehicles and safety accessories should submit Conformity of Production (CoP) control plans that conform to the new rules and requirements, and have them approved by December 31, 2016.

As the national certification organization, CQC has followed the new implementation rules for new product certification applications since January 1, 2015. For products that were already certified before the new implementation rules took effect, CQC is allowing them to transition to the new certification through certificate renewal, standard update, product modification and annual inspection.

The CQC Nanjing Branch can now process CoP conversion applications from automotive parts companies withinJiangsu Province. This training workshop was held by CQC Nanjing Branch to ensure that companies with existing certifications can successfully complete the transition process for their control plans. Training is intended for certification application personnel, quality directors, technical quality or production management staff. Content of training covered the submission process and issues in the motor vehicle and safety accessories CoP control plan, annual inspection and reporting requirements under the new rules, one-stop solutions for CCC and international certification, and other common issues.

TUV Rheinland the international leader in automotive parts approval and testing

During the workshop, Qing Gu provided a detailed introduction to the international certification rules, process and issues for automotive parts. He also mentioned the services offered by TUV Rheinland in this field. According to Gu, as a leading international certification organization, TUV Rheinland can now provide E-Mark and multi-region certification (e.g. certification for Taiwan, India, Middle East, Brazil and Africa) for automotive parts (e.g. car lights, rear view mirrors, car horns, tires, glass, child safety seats, seats, safety belts, electronic and electrical products). TUV Rheinland currently has more than 30 experts in the field and its testing laboratories include accredited national and corporate laboratories. TUV Rheinland is also an accredited technical services organization with transportation authorities in many countries. Key certification channels include the following transport authorities: KBA (E1 – Germany), RDW (E4 – the Netherlands), NSAI (E24 – Ireland), SNCH (E13 – Luxembourg) and CSDD (E34 – Latvia).

TUV Rheinland has always been the international leader in automotive parts approval and testing due to its advanced testing equipment, extensive testing experience and professional R&D team. In October 2010, TUV Rheinland, CQC and the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC) signed an agreement to further strengthen their cooperation in areas such as product certification for the automotive and photovoltaic industries, system safety assessment and project management.

CNCA recently announced that the automotive interior laboratory of TUV Rheinland Shanghai is now an official CCC laboratory, the first time that an international automotive interior testing organization has been recognized by the CNCA. This means that TUV Rheinland can now formally provide automotive interior certification services in China, further expanding the scope of its business activities in China’s automotive industry.

New Data on Stretta Therapy for GERD Shows 10-Year Effectiveness in Challenging Patient Populations

-New data and new generation of Stretta unveiled at DDW2016

NORWALK, Connecticut /PRNewswire/ — Mederi Therapeutics Inc., manufacturers of Stretta Therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), announced the presentation of new data at last week’s Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) 2016 in San Diego. This new 10-year data shows efficacy of Stretta in three specific types of non-classical GERD patients: those with high BMI, those with respiratory symptoms of GERD, and those suffering from recurring GERD after anti-reflux surgery. DDW activities also included the launch of the new Stretta RFT3 system, and four presentations by international Stretta expert physicians.

10-Year Data
The data, presented by Dr. Mark Noar (The Heartburn and Reflux Study Center, Towson, MD), examined challenging GERD patient subsets that were included in his published 10-year study, and demonstrated that each of these patient populations achieved the primary outcomes of long-term symptom relief, reduced medication use, and patient satisfaction.

  • Stretta is effective in the treatment of medically refractory GERD, independent of BMI. 73 patients comprising three subpopulations of BMI (Normal, Overweight, and Obese) were studied. At 10-year follow-up, regardless of BMI, all parameters demonstrated statistically significant improvement.
  • Stretta is effective in laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). 99 refractory LPR and non-LPR patients were studied. At 10-year follow-up, all parameters demonstrated statistically significant improvement across the entire respondent cohort.
  • In patients with refractory GERD after a laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (LNF), Stretta results in sustained improvement with near equivalence and slightly better outcomes than the non-LNF cohort. 18 refractory LNF (RLNF+S) and 81 standard refractory GERD patients were studied. At 10-year follow-up, both patient subsets demonstrated statistically significant improvement in primary outcomes.

About 30% of adults suffer from chronic GERD. Many of these patients are dissatisfied with the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or are concerned about the risks associated with long-term PPI use. Many wish to avoid invasive surgery. Stretta provides a non-surgical, middle option for this patient.

Introducing – Stretta RFT3 – the RE-Generation
At DDW, Mederi unveiled new aesthetic, functional, and material improvements to further facilitate ease of use and optimize the delivery of the clinically proven Stretta therapy. These improvements include a familiar GI product color scheme, added measurement markings on the Stretta catheter, more visual procedure guides, and software changes to increase treatment automation.

Expert Physician Presentations
Stretta international experts presented updates on Stretta data as well as shared their experience. The speakers included, Dr. Alvaro Reymunde from Ponce, Puerto Rico; Dr. Hwoon-Yong Jung from Seoul, South Korea; Dr. Luca Dughera from Torino Italy and Dr. José de Jesús Herrera from Mexico City, Mexico. Dr. Dughera also reviewed his published 8-year data and presented pending 10-year follow-up. “A large majority of my patients remain symptom free after 10-years, GERD HRQL scores were maintained, and 71% of patients were still off medications,” said Dughera. He also discussed his experience with Mederi’s Stretta system. “I was one of the first users and have seen the evolution of Stretta into an extremely user-friendly system. We are now analyzing data on 200 patients who received Mederi’s Stretta since 2011. The results appear superior to my published long-term data,” he added.

“Mederi is committed to producing technology that improves quality of care for GERD,” commented Bob Knarr, Chief Executive Officer of Mederi. “While we continue to improve Stretta, emerging data continues to validate this proven procedure and demonstrate its economic advantages. The science and economics of Stretta show continued, lasting benefits, and we look forward to bringing Stretta to more GERD sufferers around the world.”
