Mobile and Social are The Passport to Consumers Finding Travel Deals Online

LONDON /PRNewswire/ — BuzzCity, the global mobile advertising network, today releases its latest quarterly report on consumer travel trends. The global study of mobile users reveals that consumers are more likely to use social media to source travel destinations and offers than through travel agents. The rising power of social channels and mobile internet is also evident, with 45% of us searching for travel information online.

Such is the rise in mobile internet usage that nearly one in four (22%) of mobile consumers no longer use travel agents at all for gathering holiday information, instead relying on recommendations from review pages and special offers on travel company and resort websites. The research also reveals that 23% of us get our travel information from friends, family and social media.

BuzzCity Co-Founder and CEO Dr. KF Lai said, “The rise of mobile internet has given consumers the ability to either book holidays themselves, compare deals or bring this information to a travel agent”.

Dr. Lai continues, “The travel industry was one of the earliest adopters of the internet and this has transformed the sector. This evolution is heavily linked to technological changes and the impact they are having on consumer habits. What is interesting about our research is that despite easy access to information via the internet, 78% of mobile surfers rely on travel agents in one way or another.”

The latest BuzzCity report surveyed 5,800 mobile surfers across 17 countries, with the data being collected between 15th March and 3rd April 2016.

APR Energy to Provide Low-Emission Dual-Fuel Gas Turbine Power to Tasmania

JACKSONVILLE, Florida /PRNewswire/ — APR Energy, a global leader in fast-track power solutions, announces today that it has signed a contract with Hydro Tasmania to install and operate three clean-burning dual-fuel gas turbines.

The mobile power plant will supplement existing generation capability and help the Australian state mitigate the detrimental impacts of prolonged drought on Tasmania’s hydropower output and the inability to import electricity from mainland Australia due to failure of an undersea power cable. The plant is expected to be operational in early-May, and will enable Hydro Tasmania to continue to provide secure electricity supply to its customers.

APR Energy’s aeroderivative fuel flexible turbines will use water injection to further reduce emissions. The turbines will produce 93 percent less nitrogen oxide than a typical high-speed diesel reciprocating engine – resulting a reduction of NOx emissions of 8,017 metric tons by diesel reciprocating engines on an annualized basis to 532 metric tons of NOx emissions.

In addition, the power-dense turbines require approximately one-third of the space needed for an equivalent-output plant using diesel reciprocating engines, and they generate approximately 20 percent less noise.

Live and near-live streaming of broadcast-quality video content over IP networks has traditionally used linear transport over satellite and dedicated fiber networks – high quality but limiting for today’s use cases. Satellite uplinks and dedicated fiber are often not available on demand, requiring large capital investments and long startup times. This is particularly impractical for live and second-screen experiences and for one-time events that can’t justify the investment in dedicated infrastructure, or amortize CDN costs over long viewing periods. In addition, the linear feed format is difficult to customize and integrate with modern file- and cloud-based workflows.

The FASPstream software line is a first-ever open video transport solution capable of high-quality, live streaming over commodity Internet WANs. Built from the ground up by Aspera, the software utilizes the FASP® bulk data protocol to transport live video source and provides timely arrival of the live video independent of the network round-trip delay and packet loss.

IBM also announced new software that enables organizations to seamlessly live-stream events like town hall meetings, training sessions and all-hands meetings over enterprise networks while simultaneously maintaining optimal internal network performance. The eCDN software, created by Ustream, resides within an enterprise’s firewall and helps clients manage and minimize the impact of video traffic on the network, reducing local network strain and eliminating the need for network capacity upgrades.
