Dinosaurs Set to Descend on Goseong World Expo

leave a comment »

GOSEONG, South Korea /PRNewswire/ — The countdown has begun for an international exposition on dinosaurs to be held in the South Korean town of Goseong, a small town rich in the vestige of the extinct animals.

Visitors will be able to use beacon-based services for more effective and convenient tours
Visitors will be able to use beacon-based services for more effective and convenient tours

The Gyeongnam Goseong Dinosaur World Expo will open on April 1 for a 73-day run, promising to “surprise and impress” visitors with life-size replicas of dinosaurs and various programs using state-of-the-art technology.

It will be the fourth international dinosaur expo to be hosted by Goseong, some 460 kilometers south of Seoul. The previous ones were held in 2006, 2009 and 2012.

This year’s event to take place in the Danghangpo Tourism Zone has the theme of “Open the future with a dinosaur and the light of hope.” Organizers are preparing to offer a host of fun activities for families and couples by “bringing dinosaurs back to life” via IT and advanced moving picture technologies. Around 1.8 million visitors are expected.

“We are doing our best so that visitors can go back home with pleasure and satisfaction,” Bin Yeong-ho, secretary-general of the organizing committee, said.

Visitors will be able to use beacon-based services for more effective and convenient tours. They can download a relevant app from the website of Goseong county office and activate Bluetooth for a video and audio guide of exhibits and amenities as well as recommended tours and waiting time.

For kids, in particular, the expo will offer opportunities to learn about and discover dinosaurs in detail.

In the DinoAquarium, a pair of shoebills, dinosaur-like giant birds, will be made public for the first time in South Korea, along with an albino crocodile and a mermaid-like manatee.

Each day, various types of replica dinosaurs, including one that is 4-meters wide and 1.8-meters high, will parade down the expo venue as well.

This year’s show is designed to provide a more vivid experience of dinosaurs via hologram videos made in 3D, 4D and 5D to be aired on a 360-degree screen. Dinosaurs to be on display include the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus and Stegosaurus.

A variety of interactive content and hands-on experience programs, both indoor and outdoor, will be available.

The upcoming expo has two separate sub-themes for day and night. In the nighttime program to last through 10 p.m., dazzling light and laser shows will be displayed at the main plaza and on some walls, which include a “golden tunnel” and a “dinosaur gate.”

“For the daytime, we are focusing on giving excitement and joy to children. At night, couples and other adults will be able to make a beautiful memory of magnificent light,” Bin said.

Microchip Announces Two New Digitally Enhanced Power Analog Controllers Designed for Next Generation LED Lighting Applications

leave a comment »

-MCP19116 and MCP19117 enables intelligent, configurable, and accurate LED lighting

BANGKOK /PRNewswire/ –Microchip Technology Inc [NASDAQ: MCHP], a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, has announced two new digitally enhanced power analog controllers designed for LED lighting applications. The MCP19116 and MCP19117 increase accuracy for LED lighting and allow users to carefully control LED light output levels without sacrificing color or light quality for reliable long-life applications.

Microchip19117 digitally enhanced power analog intelligent constant current controller
Microchip19117 digitally enhanced power analog intelligent constant current controller

Efficiency and longevity have consistently been drivers in LED adoption. However, light quality remains one of the most important system considerations. Color, brightness, and controllability are the key to a successful lighting product. By combining the power and performance of an analog-based controller with the flexibility of a digital interface, the MCP19116/7 is an intelligent pulse width modulation (PWM) controller with a fully integrated PIC® MCU core that can deliver cost savings while still providing the highest standards in reliability, efficiency, and light quality. The digital interface also allows for communication and configuration, allowing a subsystem to report status or be remotely controlled. This functionality is necessary for adding lighting to many applications, especially high-reliability automotive and remotely accessible internet of things (IoT) devices.

“The MCP19116/7 is designed to create excellent LED lighting applications, and can do so better than any other LED drive IC on the market,” said Keith Pazul, senior manager of Microchip’s Analog Power and Interface Division. “Many companies claim they have tight current regulation accuracy in their controllers, when in reality they ignore various sources of error from other components in the system. These devices are highly accurate across all operating conditions and adjustable on the fly using the integrated PIC MCU core. This is truly a best in class solution.”

The LED lighting industry continues to grow in market share and reach. A report from Big Market Research from 2015 indicated strong market growth for LED lighting, anticipating the industry to grow 45 percent per year through 2020. The market is also expected to reach over $63 billion in 2020. These predictions are consistent throughout industry analysts.

“LED is here to stay,” echoed Pazul. “Microchip has made a diverse investment in technologies to control and drive future generations of LED lighting products. We are proud to be a premier supplier of lighting solutions to a wide variety of applications and end markets.”

For more information about MCP19116 and MCP19117, download the data sheet at:http://www.microchip.com/MCP19117-032216b.

Development support

Microchip’s MCP19117 Flyback Evaluation Board (ADM00663), which has also been announced, is available now. This evaluation board is offered with a flyback design supporting constant current loads up to 50V, perfect for driving a medium voltage LED string. Also available for the MCP19116 and MCP19117 is Microchip’s full suite of development tool support including MPLAB® X Integrated Development Environment (IDE). A MPLAB X plugin specific to the digitally enhanced power analog controllers is available.

Availability

The MCP19116 is available now for sample and volume production in 4×4 QFN packages in 10,000-unit quantities. The MCP19117 is available now for sample and volume production in 5×5 QFN packages in 10,000-unit quantities.

“New Energy Realities” to Take Centre Stage at Singapore International Energy Week 2016

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — The Energy Market Authority (EMA) announced “New Energy Realities” as the theme for Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2016.

The theme reflects the opportunities and challenges we face in the current environment of an excess supply of oil and gas. Oil prices have stayed down for a longer period than most had expected. This has discouraged new upstream investments, which would impact future supply. At the same time, the Paris Agreement following COP21 has given new impetus to the deployment of renewables. Technology progress has also continued to make energy production, systems and networks smarter, heralding new possibilities. Against this backdrop, SIEW 2016 will discuss how we can work together to navigate this period of change.

SIEW 2016 will host for the first time The 26th International Photovoltaic Science and Engineering Conference and Exhibition (PVSEC-26) as part of the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES). There will also be a special edition of the Asian Energy Financial and Investment Conference.  Delegates can also look forward to more exhibitions:

  • Gas Asia Summit will feature an exhibition alongside its conference for the first time
  • EU Business Avenues in South East Asia – Green Energy Technologies 2016, an exhibition focusing on renewables, will also return to SIEW this year.

As a prelude to SIEW, EMA invited Neil Atkinson, Head of the Oil Industry and Markets Division at the International Energy Agency (IEA), to share the latest IEA Medium-Term Oil Market Report at the launch of the 2016 theme. David Hewitt, Co-Head of the Global Oil & Gas, Equity Research at Credit Suisse also participated in the dialogue on the energy outlook for 2016.

Now in its 9th year, SIEW continues to feature global energy leaders in its week-long conferences and exhibitions covering the entire energy spectrum – including oil and gas, downstream, renewables and financing. EMA’s anchor events, the SIEW Opening Keynote Address and the Singapore Energy Summit will start the week of discussions with a focus on Asia’s energy shifts, the transition to a low-carbon future, and the evolving utility business.

SIEW 2016 will be held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore from 24 to 28 October 2016.

About Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW)

In its 9th edition, Singapore International Energy Week is the premier platform in Asia for energy insights, partnerships and dialogue, which brings together the world’s leading conferences, exhibitions, and roundtables in one week, one location. SIEW enriches the global energy conversation by convening political, business, academic, and energy industry thought leaders to define and advance the world’s leading energy challenges, solutions and actions across the energy spectrum of oil & gas, clean and renewable energy, and energy infrastructure financing. Please visitwww.siew.sg for further information.

About the Energy Market Authority

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Our main goals are to ensure a reliable and secure energy supply, promote effective competition in the energy market and develop a dynamic energy sector in Singapore. LEO Pharma Receives Scientific Approval of Enstilar(R) for the Treatment of Psoriasis in EU

leave a comment »

BALLERUP, Denmark /PRNewswire/ —

The marketing approval of Enstilar® would make it the first fixed combination topical foam treatment for people living with psoriasis vulgaris in the EU.

LEO Pharma today announced that it received scientific approval of Enstilar® (calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate 50 micrograms/g / 0,5 mg/g) for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris in patients 18 years of age or older. Enstilar® is an alcohol-free foam formulation for the topical treatment for psoriasis vulgaris.[1]

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130221/595427)

“The scientific approval of Enstilar® is exciting news, not only for LEO Pharma but also for the millions of Europeans living with psoriasis,” said Gitte Aabo, President and CEO of LEO Pharma. “Enstilar® is a first-of-its-kind topical spray foam and we believe it will help people living with psoriasis by providing a new type of treatment option that they are looking for.”

Enstilar® was developed to treat patients with psoriasis vulgaris[2],[3] – the most common clinical form of psoriasis.[4] In Europe, nearly four million people are living with psoriasis.[5]

The application in the EU decentralized procedure for Enstilar® was based on the pivotal Phase 3a PSO-FAST study which evaluated the efficacy and safety profile across a four week period,[5] and the Phase 2 MUSE safety profile study.[6] In the PSO-FAST clinical trial, over half of patients treated with Enstilar® were “Clear” or “Almost Clear” by Week 4 as measured by the Investigator Global Assessment (IGA) improvement score.[1] Additionally, more than half of patients treated with Enstilar® achieved a 75% improvement in Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score from baseline.[7]

The scientific approval means that LEO Pharma has received a positive outcome of the decentralized procedure.  Receiving this positive outcome is the final step before national marketing authorisations can be granted by the 30 EU countries which are part of the procedure. The national approvals of Enstilar® are expected later this year. InOctober 2015, Enstilar® was approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

About Enstilar®

Enstilar® is a novel topical spray foam treatment for psoriasis that is designed to provide patients with a convenient treatment option that can be easily applied. In clinical trials, Enstilar® was well-tolerated and provided fast relief from psoriasis symptoms.  Patients treated with Enstilar® in clinical trials experienced significant improvements in symptoms within the first week and more than half achieved treatment success after four weeks.

About Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease, which is frequently accompanied by multiple physical and/or psychological comorbidities, such as metabolic syndrome and psoriatic arthritis.[6]

Psoriasis is estimated to affect about 2-4% of the population in western countries.[8] 80% of patients are affected by psoriasis vulgaris – the most common type of psoriasis.[4]

Topical treatments can be used as first-line therapies for the majority of patients suffering from psoriasis.[4]

PARIS /PRNewswire/ — Launched March 1, 2016, TalkTalkBnb is a totally new, totally free, collaborative website. It puts people wanting to travel in contact with people wanting to learn languages.

These days, everyone needs to know at least one second language: school kids, students and working people. And to speak a language properly, books just aren’t enough. You need to practice it… speak it! This means being able to talk to someone in their mother tongue, but that’s generally very costly.

What’s more, young people in every country would love to travel the world, but don’t have much money.

Food and lodging in exchange for a service

Based on the principle of barter, the French start-up TalkTalkBnb offers an entirely free-to-use community website that puts “Hosts” (people wanting to improve their language skills) in contact with “Travelers” (young students, mostly). Hosts offer Travelers food & lodging in return for just one thing: to speak their native language throughout their stay to help their hosts improve.

A different kind of travel

Hubert Laurent, founder and CEO, explains: “TalkTalkBnb is like Airbnb with a language option. Travelers dont pay for their stay in cash, but by offering their host the opportunity to speak a foreign language with a native speaker, at home, completely free-of-charge. Its a win-win situation, a mutual cooperation on a totally altruistic basis.”

Simple, friendly & free

In contrast to other forms of free accommodation in private houses, with TalkTalkBnb you don’t feel like you’re disturbing your host. You give as much as you receive. And when you realize how much a conversational course costs, you know that no one’s losing out.

Whats more, says the website’s founder, “youll often find guests offering to prepare a typical national dish or introducing a local art, while hosts give them valuable tips about their destination. Different cultures have so much to share.”

Between Couchsurfing and Airbnb

TalkTalkBnb slips subtly into the space between free-but-basic accommodation, like Couchsurfing, and pay-for-comfort Airbnb.

More than 3,000 pre-registrations in the 2 months preceding the official launch and more than 1,600 Likes on Facebook confirm that there is strong demand for this language-themed travel start-up.

It also demonstrates, as if it were necessary, that sooner or later all sectors of our economy will adopt a collaborative model.

The revolution is happening now, and TalkTalkBnb is part of it, without a doubt.
