Broadband Services and Pay TV Increased Adoption Propel Brazilian Telecommunications Services Market, Finds Frost & Sullivan

leave a comment »

-Modern applications and VAS are being leveraged as loyalty tools

SAO PAULO  /PRNewswire/ — The higher adoption of pay TV and broadband services, provision of multiple-play bundles and value-added services (VAS), and investments to expand fiber-optics networks and mobile broadband networks have given a huge boost to the Brazilian telecommunications market. The wider range of innovative technologies, reduced network deployment costs and prices of entry products will especially aid the deeper penetration of telecommunications products in the lower income segments and underserved cities.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Analysis of the Brazilian Total Telecommunications Services Market(, finds that the market earned revenues of $60.14 billion in 2015 and estimates this to reach $70.03 billion in 2020.

For complimentary access to more information on this research, please visit:

There is a fresh market for novel business models such as over-the-top video services, business and home applications of broadband services, and machine to machine (M2M) and payment applications in mobile networks. In effect, operators are offering a combination of low-priced services for the untapped segments, and premium solutions for increasing the average revenue per user.

“The deployment of 3G, Long-Term Evolution and fiber-optics networks make available higher bandwidth and throughput, and open up markets for additional applications and services in the consumer and business segments,” said Frost & Sullivan Digital Transformation Industry Analyst Carina Gonçalves. “Besides, with the rise of small cable TV associations and Internet service providers, untapped markets such as Pay TV and broadband could also witness heated competition.”

On the flip side, the intense competition could diminish margins, as can the revised tariff regulations on the prices of traditional telecommunications services such as voice and basic connectivity. Furthermore, the high taxes on telecom services and spectrum, and costs limitations on broadband services can constrict the profits of operators.

The Government and the national telecommunications regulator, Anatel, play important roles in implementing and revising the National Broadband Plan and improving regulation policies as well as aggregating operators’ interactions and contributions. In order to stimulate broadband and connectivity services growth, the regulator must encourage infrastructure sharing, since there is not enough space for new transmission structures, especially in the metropolitan areas.

In the current scenario, telecommunications operators are investing heavily in the deployment of their own networks, which limits their ability to slash prices as their business plans restrict profitability.

“All fixed operators are focusing on enhancing data capacity and expanding geographical coverage of their networks to enrich quality of service and expedite return on investment in a progressively connected environment,” noted Gonçalves. “In this context, over-the-top services and Internet neutrality are becoming increasingly relevant and will be vital to the business plans of telecommunication service providers in Brazil.”

Receiving the award at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain is Globe Vice President for Product Management Vince Yamat.

Globe was awarded as one of the founding Mobile Network Operator (MNO) partners for GSMA’s Mobile Connect: Project 1 Billion initiative. GSMA announced that the GSMA Mobile Connect mobile-based authentication solution is now available to 2 billion consumers globally. Since the solution was introduced at Mobile World Congress 2014, 34 mobile network operators (MNOs), including Globe, have launched the service in 21 countries.

As part of its commitment to enable the shift to a digital nation and empower Filipinos around the world to fully embrace their digital lifestyle, Globe joined the global initiative to protect its customers from the growing number of fraudulent activities and scams in the digital space.

Working with the GSMA closely, Globe launched Mobile Connect in the Philippines in light of the rapid growth of data and internet penetration in the country, exposing more users to online fraud and scams. GSMA’s Mobile Connect aims to securely authenticate, authorize and identify a subscriber accessing content using the inherent security of the mobile device owned and carried by the end user.

“With Mobile Connect, Globe is adopting a globally-accepted standard to protect our customers from the various cases of cybercrimes via a safe and secure platform. In today’s digital world, this initiative will definitely bring about sustainable and long-lasting impact to the global economy, and we at Globe are very happy to bring this innovation to Filipinos to ease them away from the worries of online fraud,” says Glenn Estrella, Vice President for Digital Media at Globe.

Mobile Connect enables customers to create and manage a digital universal identity via a single log-in solution. The service securely authenticates users, enabling them to digitally confirm their identity and their credentials and grant safe on-line access to mobile and digital services such as e-commerce, banking, health and digital entertainment, and e-government, via their mobile phones. It works by employing the user’s unique mobile number, combined with a unique PIN for more secure use cases, to verify and grant online access anywhere they see the Mobile Connect logo.

It also provides secure and convenient access to digital services that can be unlocked with the use of a secret PIN. It functions like Google’s Two-Factor authentication where the subscriber is asked to enter the code they get via SMS or USSD, to verify that they have the device with them when accessing a site or an app.

While initially focused on secure and convenient log-in to digital services, Mobile Connect is evolving to deliver secure authorisation of digital transactions and to add context and attributes about the user and the transaction to increase convenience, trust and security for the users and the online service providers, while respecting the users’ privacy.

Operators offering services based on Mobile Connect include America Movil, Axiata Group (Bangladesh,Indonesia, Sri Lanka), China Mobile, China Mobile Pakistan (Zong), China Telecom, China Unicom, DNA, Elisa, Indosat Ooredoo, Mobilink, Mobitel, Orange (Egypt, France, Morocco, Spain), Sunrise, Swisscom (Switzerland), Telefonica Group (Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Spain), Telenor Group (Bangladesh, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan,Thailand), TeliaSonera (Finland), Telkomsel, Telstra, TIM and Turkcell (Turkey).

The Mobile Connect Reception Founders Accolade and Networking celebrated some of the biggest milestones achieved by the initiative as well as recognized key contributors and partners. It also allowed partner MNOs to network and meet with the Mobile Connect ecosystem.

HONG KONG /PRNewswire/ — After a decade of rapid growth, China, the world’s largest lubricants market and Asia’s growth engine, has started to slow down. “We expect a flat growth trajectory — 6.8% in 2016 versus 6.9% in 2015 — as China digests prior credit excesses and transitions to a new growth model,” says Jeff Ng, ASEAN economist at Standard Chartered Bank.

F+L Week 2016, which is organised by F&L Asia Ltd., will be held from March 8-11, 2016 at the Regent Hotel, Singapore.
F+L Week 2016, which is organised by F&L Asia Ltd., will be held from March 8-11, 2016 at the Regent Hotel, Singapore.

Chinese lubricating oil demand peaked in 2012, and in recent years has continued to grow but at a slower rate, as the speed of China’s economic growth has gradually declined, according to Nie ShiChun, deputy general manager for Sinopec Lubricant (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

As China’s economic model transitions to a “new normal,” lubricant industry profits will weaken, says Nie. “While well-established enterprises are expanding their market, small- to medium-sized enterprises are struggling to survive,” he says.

Ng and Nie are speaking at F+L Week 2016, which will be held from March 8-11, 2016 at the Regent Hotel,Singapore. F&L Asia Ltd., organizer of F+L Week, has unveiled a stellar speaker line-up for its 2016 edition ofAsia’s premier annual event for the fuels and lubes industry.

Every year since 1995, F&L Asia has hosted the global lubricants industry’s movers and shakers in Asia. This year, Dan Arcy, chairman of the New Category Development Team (NCDT) responsible for defining the performance standard for the next generation of heavy-duty engine oils, will present on API FA-4 and CK-4, which will be licensed by the American Petroleum Institute (API) in December 2016.

Teri Kowalski, chairperson for the automotive segment of the Auto-Oil Advisory Panel (AOAP), will give an update on ILSAC GF-6, which will be licensed by the API in April 2018.

Keith Howard will discuss ACEA 5, the new European passenger car engine oil category, which will be introduced this spring. Before moving to China, Howard represented Lubrizol in the European lubricant additives committee for test development, the group responsible for the additive industry’s input into the development of tests for use in the ACEA European test sequences.

Luberef’s new Group II base oil refinery in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia that’s coming on stream in the second quarter; Croda’s new Group V base stock and Solvay’s new emulsifier for metalworking fluids are just some of the topics to be tackled during F+L Week 2016.

This year’s keynote speaker is Toyota Motor Corp. Executive General Manager Masanori Sugiyama, who will talk on “The Future of Automobiles in 2035: Toward Realization of Sustainable Mobility Society for Customers’ Smiles.”

This landmark annual conference brings together high-level speakers and delegates to Singapore, Asia’s oil refining and trading centre, to unleash thought leadership, shape strategic road maps and provide an exceptional networking opportunity for those belonging to the Asia-Pacific fuels and lubricants industry.

JAKARTA, Indonesia /PRNewswire/ — Indonesia is changing at an increasing pace. New government stimuli and simplifications are being introduced with the aim, announced earlier in February by President Joko (Jokowi) Widodo, of climbing 70 positions in 2016 in the Ease of Doing Business Index (currently Indonesia ranks 109th out of 189).

Concurrently, particular emphasis has been given to the pharma sector, deemed as strategic for the country, which introduced a public health insurance scheme in 2014 and recently allowed foreign investors to own 100% of local companies.

These and other positive factors have contributed to the recent renewed upsurge in interest in the Indonesian market shown by Indian companies – which already supply almost 40% of the raw materials processed in Indonesia – that significantly increased their presence at CPhI SEA, the only trade exhibition dedicated to the pharma industry in the region. With India being the country of focus, CPhI SEA will be held at Jakarta International Expo during April 6-8, 2016 and host a pavilion organized by Pharmexcil alongside stand-alone companies like HiMedia Laboratories, Gujarat Foils and Supreem Pharmaceuticals.

Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of the change, register here and join the event!

The CPhI series of events drives growth and innovation in the global pharmaceutical industry, with leading exhibitions and online communities covering every step of the supply chain from drug discovery to finished dosage.

More than 100,000 visitors meet over 6,000 exhibitors at events in Europe, China, India, Japan, South East Asia,Russia, Brazil, Istanbul and Korea every year to exchange ideas, form alliances and conduct business on an international scale. CPhI also provides an online buyer & supplier directory at
