CellPoint Mobile Rolls Out New Converged Payment Gateway For the Global Airline Industry

-Centralized Payment Platform Enables Airlines to Manage all Travel Payments Seamlessly, Bring Payment Methods to Market in Minutes, and Improve the Value of PSP Relationships

LONDON /PRNewswire/ — CellPoint Mobile, a global payment solutions company whose technology enables airlines to easily manage and control the complex and costly travel payments ecosystem, is unveiling its newest platform, the Converged Payment Gateway to the global airline industry.

CONVERGED PAYMENT GATEWAY mPoint(TM)
CONVERGED PAYMENT GATEWAY mPoint(TM)

The Converged Payment Gateway, available to airlines as an installed or SaaS solution, is being released at a time when the number of payment channels used by airline passengers and travelers has grown exponentially over the past 24 months. At the same time, the rise of alternative payments, mobile payments, and the availability of multiple Payment Service Providers (PSPs) has created opportunities for airlines to create new revenue streams. In 2014, mobile travel bookings totaled $96 billion and accounted for 12.5% of all digital bookings made globally.

“Several airlines have a multi-PSP strategy, but CellPoint Mobile is seeing an increasing number of network, regional airlines and low-cost carriers that want to add another PSP to their payment infrastructure, both as a failover strategy and to take advantage of PSP geographic price differences,” said Kristian Gjerding, CEO of CellPoint Mobile. “These airlines, however, are often constrained by the costs of implementation, long time-to-market and challenges of managing multiple PSPs. CellPoint Mobile’s Converged Payment Gateway solution pre-integrates PSPs so that airlines can significantly shorten the time-to-market and reduce the costs of launching and managing new payment methods and PSPs to meet their passengers’ growing needs.”

With the ability to manage payment methods and PSPs in a matter of minutes, CellPoint Mobile’s Converged Payment Gateway solution enables airlines to turn the payment ecosystem into an asset that supports increased sales and greater margins, Gjerding said.

Improving Pathways to Purchase, Simplifying the Complexities of Travel Payments
Airlines’ payment ecosystems are under increasing pressure from a proliferation of new devices, growth of channels through which passengers are transacting, and ancillary revenue opportunities. This has resulted in lengthy IT integrations as airlines try to meet passengers’ demands for a variety of satisfying, convenient payment methods. Airlines, meanwhile, face potentially millions and billions in lost revenues as they wait for new payment solutions to be deployed.

The Converged Payment Gateway was developed in conjunction with CellPoint Mobile’s airline customers to combat these critical challenges and help them deploy new payment methods, currencies, and channels in minutes or days, not weeks or months, and to get more value from their relationships with Payment Service Providers (PSPs). From a single access point, airlines can manage, add, delete and update payment data easily and quickly, and process passenger payments and transactions seamlessly and securely for passengers. Airline revenues and margins improve when passengers have more paths to purchase from beginning to end of their journey.

“Our new payment platform enables airlines to process transactions in a very cost-effective manner, through a central hub that sits within their existing payments infrastructure,” Gjerding explained. “Through a single console, airlines can now easily manage all of their converged payment data with one-click functionality, putting them firmly back in control of their payments infrastructure.”

— Singapore-based Budget Airline Fuels Business Growth with NetSuite

SAN MATEO, Calif. and SINGAPORE  /PRNewswire/ — NetSuite Inc. (NYSE: N), the industry’s leading provider of cloud-based financials / ERP and omnichannel software suites, today announced that Scoot, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has deployed NetSuite as its core financial management platform in a two-tier ERP model aligned with an on-premise SAP ERP application in place at the parent Singapore Airlines. Scoot chose NetSuite after considering other major ERP solutions due to factors such as speed of implementation, low cost of ownership, real-time business intelligence and reporting, as well as the breadth and depth that NetSuite provides in financial reporting, multi-currency management and budgeting  all within one unified platform. Since implementation, NetSuite has supported Scoot in its network growth across Asia and Australia, enabling Scoot to attain cost-efficiencies and speed to market. Business agility through NetSuite has been critical in helping Scoot drive its exponential business growth while expanding its network across 15 destinations in mainland China,Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. Scoot views NetSuite as its core ERP solution in its plan to triple its fleet size over the next several years with 20 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners to increase its presence in the medium and long-haul segment.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090924/SF81218LOGO-b

“As a startup, Scoot wanted a modern, agile business platform that could scale rapidly while ‘future-proofing’ our company for long-term innovation and growth,” said Ng Long Jian, Scoot Head of Finance. “We looked at other major and more established ERP, but NetSuite was the clear winner in meeting our requirements for cost-efficiency, fast deployment, real-time visibility into the business and flexibility. NetSuite is the perfect fit for Scoot to enable us to transform our business operations and support our growth.”

NetSuite gives Scoot a versatile platform for efficient end-to-end financial processes, including vendor payments, revenue reporting and fixed asset management with automated depreciation covering its fleet of Boeing Dreamliners worth well over 2 billion Singapore dollars. Multi-currency capabilities in the NetSuite International Edition enable Scoot to book revenue and costs in between 10 to 15 currencies, most often in Chinese Renminbi, Japanese Yen, Australian Dollar, Korean Won and the United States Dollar. Automated vendor payment processes help to save nearly one-third of full-time resources at Scoot’s business process outsourcing (BPO) partner, while on-demand reporting capability provides management with an instant access to key business metrics to drive the business.

Implemented by NetSuite Solution Provider M.SaaS Solutions, based in Singapore, NetSuite has enabled additional benefits for Scoot, including:

Personnel savings. Scoot’s BPO partner is saving one full-time employee with automated electronic payments, one-half employee with automated journal entries and management information support, which it attributes in part to the use of NetSuite, and passing those savings along to Scoot. At the initial stage, these processes were manually driven, with extensive use of spreadsheets before the capability of NetSuite were fully extricated.

Ease of use. NetSuite’s intuitive interface helps Scoot quickly ramp up new users to speed time to value. “NetSuite is very user-friendly with no intensive training needed,” said Ng. “New employees tend to pick it up very quickly and often are on autopilot in a couple of weeks.”

Extensibility for growth. NetSuite’s capacity to roll out different modules and accommodate add-on solutions from NetSuite SuiteCloud Developer Network (SDN) partners and other third parties gives Scoot the ability to adapt its cloud software environment as the business grows and changes.

“NetSuite provides instant and accurate information to enable good business decision making,” said Ng. “We have detailed insights into our financial performance in terms of revenue and key expenditures like fuel, engineering, pilots and crew, airport, staff and advertising, which are significant cost components for an airline operator.”

Oracle Helps Organizations Power Customer Experiences with Latest Releases of Oracle Service Cloud and Oracle Social Cloud

leave a comment »

— Enables brands to leverage social channels and self-service communities to expand customer engagements and business insights

NEW YORK  /PRNewswire/ — CRM Evolution — Oracle unveiled significant new functionality withinOracle Service Cloud and Oracle Social Cloud that helps organizations deliver better customer experience and drive more informed business decisions. The new social customer service capabilities enable brands to increase social engagement and business insights via a new community self-service solution, enhanced social service and incident routing, and extended social listening and analytics capabilities to private data sources.

Today more than one in three customers prefer to contact brands through social channels rather than by phone or email (Nielsen), and the distinction between social and traditional channels is eroding. To deliver the best possible customer experience across this expanding range of traditional and digital channels, customer care organizations need to provide a positive and unified experience where and when customers want, whether they are on Twitter, Facebook, customer communities or other social networks. Through a unified and modern customer experience across channels, organizations establish a competitive advantage.

The latest release of Oracle Service Cloud includes Community Self-Service, a new approach to web self service that brings community functionality directly into the core multi-channel web experience. Oracle Service Cloud now enables organizations to deliver a seamless experience between web service and community interactions, leveraging the power of customer knowledge to improve service operations. This helps organizations streamline the customer journey and lets customers quickly find an answer, while also driving efficiencies by reducing the overall requests to the contact center.

Gartner’s research indicates that investment in Peer-to-Peer Communities drives support costs down and boosts profits. In fact, in a December 2014 research note, Nine CRM Projects to Do Right Now for Customer Service, “Gartner clients who are successful in this space are still seeing on average a 20% reduction in the creation of support tickets following the introduction of peer-to-peer communities,” wrote, Michael Maoz, Vice President, Distinguished Analyst, Gartner, “Clients are seeing other business benefits as well. By enabling community-based support, clients have been able to recognize new sales opportunities and increase existing customer satisfaction, resulting in increased revenue in several of these cases.”

Oracle is also introducing new workflow and automation capabilities between Oracle Social Cloud and Oracle Service Cloud that empower organizations to leverage the power of social insights and engagements. Business users can now attach contextual attributes and notes generated from posts or incidents identified by Oracle Social Cloud directly to the Oracle Service Cloud. By providing more customer information and context, organizations can improve service quality, drive efficiencies and improve resolution time as social posts are shared with the appropriate agents quickly.

The improved connectivity between Oracle Social Cloud and Oracle Service Cloud includes extended social listening and analytics to enterprise private-data sources such as the new Community Self-Service capability, survey data, chat and call logs. Organizations can now listen and analyze unstructured data and gain insights with terms, themes, sentiment and customer metrics, and can view private and public data side by side in the Oracle Social Cloud Relationship Management dashboard.

“In today’s hyper-competitive business environment, understanding the voice of the customer is essential to providing exceptional experiences, whether on public social networks, across communities, or within high-touch contact centers,” said David Vap, group vice president, product development, Oracle. “The updates to the Oracle Service Cloud and Oracle Social Cloud help businesses listen, identify and track social conversations, enabling them to quickly and efficiently respond to customers looking for answers, which helps foster a loyal group of brand ambassadors.”

The latest enhancements to Oracle Social Cloud and Oracle Service Cloud extend Oracle’s commitment to help organizations leverage social channels to enhance the customer experience and build on the recent introduction ofOracle’s Twitter-enriched social customer service solution. KILLER AIR: Berkeley Earth Publishes Study on Air Pollution in China

leave a comment »

BERKELEY, Calif.,  /PRNewswire/ — Berkeley Earth published today a paper showing that air pollution kills an average of 4000 people every day in China, 17% of all China’s deaths. For 38% of the population, the average air they breathe is “unhealthy” by U.S. standards. With unprecedented detail, the sources of pollution throughout China are mapped directly from ground-level measurements.

The most harmful pollution is PM2.5, particulate matter 2.5 microns and smaller. This penetrates deeply into lungs and triggers heart attacks, stroke, lung cancer, and asthma. “Beijing is only a moderate source PM2.5; it receives much of its pollution from distant industrial areas, particularly Shijiazhuang, 200 miles to the southwest,” saysRobert Rohde, coauthor of the paper. Since the sources aren’t local, reducing pollution for the 2022 Olympics may prove difficult.

The paper appears in the refereed journal PLOS ONE. Berkeley Earth analyzed hourly measurements of 1500 ground stations covering 4 months. The fact that sources of PM2.5 match those of sulfur implies that most of the pollution comes from coal. Worldwide, air pollution kills over three million people per year – more than AIDS, malaria, diabetes or tuberculosis.

“Air pollution is the greatest environmental disaster in the world today,” says Richard Muller, Scientific Director of Berkeley Earth, coauthor of the paper. “When I was last in Beijing, pollution was at the hazardous level; every hour of exposure reduced my life expectancy by 20 minutes. It’s as if every man, women, and child smoked 1.5 cigarettes each hour,” he said.

Elizabeth Muller, Executive Director of Berkeley Earth, said “It’s troubling that air pollution is killing so many and yet isn’t on the radar for major environmental organizations in the US or Europe.” She says that solutions include greater use of scrubbers, increased energy efficiency, and switching from coal to natural gas, nuclear power, and renewables. “Many of the same solutions that mitigate air pollution will simultaneously reduce China’s contribution to global warming. We can save lives today and tomorrow.”

Berkeley Earth hopes to expand geographic coverage to include more of Asia, the US, and Europe, and to study how sources of air pollution change with time.

TOEIC® Program Releases 2014 TOEIC® Listening and Reading Worldwide Data

leave a comment »

-Fourth Annual report highlights widespread use of TOEIC® test to measure English proficiency in the workplace

PRINCETON, N.J.,  /PRNewswire/ — Educational Testing Service (ETS) is releasing the fourth annual report on TOEIC® test takers worldwide for the TOEIC® Listening and Reading (L&R) assessment.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20150807/256741LOGO

The TOEIC® Listening and Reading Report on Test Takers Worldwide is based on the information gathered from all test takers who completed the TOEIC Background Questionnaire administered in 2014. The report presents information about TOEIC test takers’ average Listening and Reading scores, educational background, work experience, English-language study and use, and the TOEIC test-taking experience.

ETS is making this data available to enable users to learn more about the background of people who took the test and some of the factors that impacted their TOEIC scores and related improvement in English-language proficiency. Organizations can look at the data to set score benchmarks and goals; however, because the response rates varied across different background questions, special care should be taken in making inferences based on this data.

“With the English language becoming increasingly important in the global workforce, it is important for score users to understand more about TOEIC test takers,” said Feng Yu, Executive Director of the TOEIC Program. “And because the questionnaire and testing process is standardized, test takers of any background and location can be compared fairly by score users.”

Relying on this data and TOEIC scores, organizations can build a more diverse and qualified labor pool to make informed decisions on placing, developing and promoting employees from and within any country or region. Additionally, the growing acceptance of the TOEIC tests around the world means test takers can advance their careers at a wider range of organizations.

Report highlights include:

  • Description of TOEIC L&R test takers in 2014
  • Average TOEIC scores across native countries, industries, etc.
  • Relationships among L&R scores
  • Test-taker demographics

TOEIC assessments are fair, reliable and valid measures of a test taker’s ability to use English in the workplace. Used by nearly 14,000 organizations in 150 countries, the TOEIC tests are the international standard for assessing an individual’s English-language proficiency level and measuring how well potential employees can apply their English-language skills in a work environment.

While organizations use TOEIC scores and surveys to build a stronger employee base, job seekers trust the TOEIC Program to differentiate themselves in a competitive job market. TOEIC assessments measure all four language skills and provide descriptions of test takers’ strengths and weaknesses that can be used to inform critical hiring, placement and training decisions.

To download the report, visit http://www.ets.org/toeic/publications. For more information about the TOEIC program, please visit www.ets.org/toeic.

Experts Gather to Assess the Impact of Water Crisis on Businesses at CSR Asia Summit 2015

leave a comment »

– 70% of respondents reported that water poses a substantial risk to their businesses, yet water management efforts by corporations are found to be lacking

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia /PRNewswire/ — CSR Asia Summit 2015, the annual leading conference on corporate social responsibility in Asia, will be taking the lead to address one of the global developmental issues caused by climate change and rising sea levels — water crisis.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks 2014 report ranked water crises[1] as the third highest risk of concern to global development. Significant proportions of Asian coastal areas are highly vulnerable to flooding resulting from climate change and sea-level rise.

“Water scarcity has been a key concern for Singapore since independence and the government has been actively seeking solutions to address these issues. Similarly, Malaysia also feels the heat of the prolonged dry spell inSoutheast Asia,” said Dr. Richard Welford, Chairman and founder of CSR Asia.

“Areas in Malaysia including Selangor and Klang Valley have faced water shortage issues, with below average water level monitored at these dams. This water scarcity could pose nationwide crises if no measures are in place,” added Dr. Welford.

Water shortage becoming growth risk for business

The impact of the water crisis does not affect the local stakeholders of these countries solely.  According to CDP Global Water Report 2014[2], 70% of respondents reported that water poses a substantial risk to their business. Corporations that do not employ water management face economic losses and risks as well as water shortages which affect business operations.

While a large number of Asian companies have implemented programs to tackle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and other environmental impacts of their operations, similar efforts to conserve, manage or obtain water are found to be lacking.

This is further supported by findings from the 2014 Channel NewsAsia Sustainability Ranking, where less than one fifth (17%) of companies demonstrated water management programmes. These included strategies for water reuse and recycling, along with targets for reduction of water use with deadlines. Lack of water management efforts by corporations will thus affect the nation’s economy adversely.

CSR Asia Summit 2015 — where industry experts and business leaders gather

At one of the CSR Asia Summit 2015 sessions, industry experts and business leaders will assess how water scarcity and deteriorating water quality could have a lasting effect upon all businesses. The potential sustainability risks to business due to water shortage and negative impacts of water crisis on local stakeholders, call for corporations to benchmark sustainability performance and strive for improvement in water management issues.

“Being in Asia which is home to more than 60% of the world’s population, it is important for corporations to work together to address these pressing concerns. The CSR Asia Summit 2015 is a great platform for corporations to discuss sustainable business strategies that can add value to their businesses, community and society. We hope that the exchange of ideas between participants will lead to innovative business solutions presented to address world challenges,” said Dr. Welford.

The CSR Asia Summit 2015 will take place from 7 to 8 October 2015, at Royale Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The title for this year’s summit is Strategic Value Creation, and it will look into ways business strategies can bring shared value to business, community and society.

Three themes will be covered in this year’s summit: Development Challenges, Human Resources and Workplaces, and The Environment and Sustainability. The results of the 2015 Channel NewsAsia Sustainability Ranking will also be announced at the Summit on 7 October 2015. This sustainability ranking aims to trigger the thought process amongst Asian corporates to identify and address sustainability issues that are most relevant to their business and local stakeholders.

China’s Evolving Media Landscape Provides Great Opportunities for Brands

leave a comment »

HONG KONG /PRNewswire/ — The fast-changing media environment in China can be complex and tricky to explore, but understanding the unique news consumption habits of Chinese consumers and the effective ways to reach out to the Chinese media can be rewarding for many marketers wanting to tap into this opportunistic business market.

Continuing its efforts in sharing the insights of leading thinkers into media trends and best practices in news distribution and media relations in the Asia-Pacific region, PR Newswire brought another Media Coffee event to Hong Kong on August 13 with the remarkable topic: “Navigating China’s Media Landscape”. Joining two experienced speakers from China, more than 35 marketing, public relations and communications professionals partook in this event to learn how to effectively craft their communications for audiences in China and enhance visibility for their brands.

The archived video of the event is now available for viewing upon registration.

(From left to right) Speakers Lynn Liu and Yuan Li, and the audience.
(From left to right) Speakers Lynn Liu and Yuan Li, and the audience.

Learning how to engage with China’s mobile-savvy audiences is vital for brand success

Lynn Liu, Group Manager of Audience and New Media Development at PR Newswire, kicks off the presentation by providing the audience with an in-depth overview of China’s current media landscape and tips on how to do better storytelling in China. With the astronomical growth of digital platforms and shifting Chinese consumer preferences in news consumption, the print media industry is losing ground to new media that offers wider reach, faster speed of delivery, and better user experience, according to Liu. “As the China media market continues to become more and more established, marketers must continue to adjust their sails accordingly to remain relevant to China’s mobile-savvy audiences, while focusing on producing quality content,” said Liu. Some of Liu’s key highlights on the current media trends and development in China include:

  • Traditional media still has an important role to play. Marketers should consider how to strategically integrate traditional media with new media by taking advantages of multiple vehicles in order to amplify their influence, enhance the reader’s experience, and maximize the impact of their communication efforts.
  • Search engines have overtaken the traditional media as the most trusted news source. According to a recent study, more than 59% of online rumours propagated last year were disseminated over the Weibo microblogging service. In this new era of media, people are increasingly inclined to believe their own judgement by conducting their own research on the news.
  • In mainland China, mobile news traffic has triumphed over the Tencent, Sohu, NetEase and Sina portal websites. As more Chinese audiences are now consuming news on the go, companies should adapt accordingly for the big shift to mobile news.
  • Adding multimedia to content not only helps to enhance readers’ experiences, but also drivers toward better engagement.

How to establish and maintain positive media relations in China

Attendees also took valuable notes from Yuan Li, the former PR manager of Walmart China, former senior correspondent of Southern Metropolis Daily and a freelance contributor to FT.com’s Chinese website. Besides shedding light on the best practices in establishing positive working relationships with the Chinese media, Li also provided audiences with valuable tactics to work around changes to press release distributions, and shared some of China’s top new media platforms and applications that are worth noting. “WeChat is a key and must-have tool to successfully maintaining media relations in mainland China,” said Li. “It offers marketers and PR professionals an ideal place to build relationships, tell their stories and engage with audiences.” Some key takeaways from Li include:

  • Despite a digitalized media landscape, it is still important to establish positive relationships with traditional and influential media outlets that can help you gain maximum brand visibility. For example, if a piece of corporate news is picked up by an authoritative media outlet, such as People’s Daily, the news itself is already seen as a successful PR buzz.
  • More and more traditional media in China have launched their own new media channels. One of these channels is “WeMedia”, which is an alliance of grassroots opinion leaders who have a large number of followers on Chinese social media, and who are creating high-quality and unique content on their own pages. These influencers are quickly overtaking traditional media as the more influential type of media in China.
  • The way of reporting serious news is becoming ever more witty and humorous, particularly in the new media, as headlines are becoming longer, more colloquial and more straightforward.
  • WeChat now has over eight million public accounts, and the channel has enabled many individuals to grow their influence and spread their ideas.
  • Media relations, advertising, marketing and public relations professionals in Mainland China are now putting more emphasis on targeted and quality communications to niche media. Mass communications is not always effective, but speed and frequency of communication is key.
  • Leverage big data to personalized content to enable better storytelling.
  • Take into consideration all possible channels for communications planning, including press releases, WeChat, Baidu Baike and Baidu Tieba.

About Media Coffee:

The goal of Media Coffee events is to enable communications professionals to hear leading media organisations talk about how their respective companies work, provide insights into their areas of specialty, give advice on achieving coverage and effectively targeting journalists within their sector, and share their thoughts on how to build mutually beneficial relationships.
