Noma will temporarily close in Copenhagen, Denmark to open its new waterfront home at Barangaroo on Sydney Harbour, as part of an exciting collaboration with Tourism Australia and Lendlease.

“I have always been attracted to the incredible diversity you find in Australia’s landscapes and ingredients, because they are like no other place I’ve seen before,” said Redzepi. “Australia combines strong influences from its Indigenous people with new communities from around the world. When you mix it all together, the result is something truly inspiring. It really is the perfect place to come and learn.”

The Noma team will find the best of Australia’s produce to design an original menu, focusing on producers who have a respectful and passionate engagement with the sea and the land.

“We look forward to the new year and this new exploration. It will be a different journey, but one that I am incredibly excited aboutthe opportunity to broaden our horizons, to expand our minds and our tastes, to make new friends, and catch-up with old ones, as we delve into this magnificent landscape,” Redzepi added.

Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan said that Noma Australia was a natural extension of its already successful Restaurant Australia campaign.

“A big part of Restaurant Australia has been about improving Australia’s perception as a food and wine destination. And, with one of the world’s top ranked restaurants about to open in Sydney, I’d say our country’s culinary standing has never been higher,” he said.

Gary Horwitz, Head of Retail at Lendlease said the partnership is testament to the vision that is being created for the waterfront dining precinct at Barangaroo: “When Lendlease was approached by the Noma team, we knew it was the perfect fit; Rene‘s strong affinity to sustainability is aligned with our aspirations for Barangaroo. We are delighted to partner with Noma and Tourism Australia to celebrate the best of Australian produce and enhance Barangaroo’s position on the global food map.”

Noma Australia will be located in the acclaimed Anadara building at the Barangaroo precinct, which is set to become Australia’s landmark future food and beverage destination. The location was selected for its synergy to Noma in Copenhagen, which is also on the water and strongly connected to the sea.

As a vital part of Noma’s research in the lead up to the restaurant opening, Rene and his team have already embarked on several Australia-wide visits to meet with producers, local communities, farmers and chefs, and explore the diverse landscape and multi-faceted culture of the country. Tourism Australia is supporting these important research trips, and providing assistance with travel and marketing.

Noma Australia will launch in January 2016 and will open for lunch and dinner five days per week.

Malaysian International Furniture Fair Invests In Nurturing Young Design Talent

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia/PRNewswire/ — The Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF), the largest industry show in Southeast Asia, has expanded its support for local young design talent.

For the third straight year, UBM Malaysia, the organiser of MIFF, recently presented RM150,000 to the country’s largest industry group, Muar Furniture Association (MFA),  to support its activities that includes initiatives to interest the younger generations in  furniture making.

The MFA efforts are in tandem with MIFF’s annual MIFF Furniture Design Competition (MIFF FDC) begun in 2000 to groom young talent and encourage them to enter the industry.

Mr M Gandhi, Managing Director of ASEAN Business at UBM Asia, sees the nurturing of young designers as an effective initiative to deliver sustainable benefits to the Malaysian furniture industry.

“Our corporate social responsibility initiatives are business-driven for our customers. We are focused on making a positive difference by creating a supportive environment that can excite and draw young people into furniture design to ensure a successful and sustainable future for the local industry,” said Mr Gandhi.

MFA president Mr Neo Chee Kiat said MIFF’s contribution demonstrated its commitment to enhance the industry in a constructive way because design talent was crucial to make Malaysian products more competitive amid growing international rivalry.

“We have organised various programmes such as furniture design and even student field trips to visit MIFF this year to get them closer to the industry. Design is a lifeline that will shape the future of Malaysian furniture. We have a fruitful strategic alliance with MIFF and we will continue to carry on with this partnership that has brought a lot of value and exposure to our members,” he added.

Muar is the leading furniture hub in Malaysia with some 700 manufacturers and accounts for up to half of the country’s furniture exports.

MIFF FDC 2016 has been launched with the same theme as last year, “Living Furniture, Global Perspective”, to encourage designs targeted for the international market.

The hotly-contested young talent competition has attracted over 1,000 entries since it begun in 2010. It has also gained the sponsorship of the Malaysian Timber Council from last year.

Over RM20,000 prize money will be up for grabs and the designs of the 10 finalists picked by an international jury are prototyped and showcased at MIFF 2016, 1-5 March.

The international jury is led by Chief Judge Philip Yap, a prominent Malaysian designer-based in China, who served in the same capacity for the 2015 competition.

Yap will conduct a workshop for potential contestants at Putra World Trade here on Aug 8 (Saturday). A session for 30 design lecturers was held earlier on July 13 to share insights into latest industry happenings to help them prepare their students for the competition.

Entries and designs must be submitted by Oct 5 (Monday) 2015. Shortlisted participants will be notified to attend the preliminary judging between Oct 12 and 16 and 40 will be picked for the semifinal round on Oct 23.

Judges will be looking at concept and design at the preliminary stage. During the semifinal, production and marketability are the key aspects. The final round will take place on Feb 29 at which the judges will view, test and evaluate the potential of the designs to become full collections.

Entries and designs will only be accepted on an official registration form which can be downloaded fromwww.mifffdc.com.

— New office to host centers of excellence for global service quality and business IT
— Global Quality Control Center to provide real-time shipment tracking and proactive management of service issues
— DHL Express CEO Ken Allen: “Singapore’s important role in DHL global network was a key factor in the decision to base Quality Control Center here.”

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — DHL Express, the world’s leading international express services provider, today announced the opening of a new facility inSingapore that will combine a range of global operations activities in the South Asian trade hub. The new facility will serve as a center of excellence for global service quality and business IT activities at DHL Express and will host a new global Quality Control Center.

“Quality is one of the main sources of differentiation in our highly competitive industry, and our Quality Control Centers are a major investment by DHL in ensuring that we continue to lead the international time definite delivery market over the long-term,” said Ken Allen, CEO, DHL Express. “Singapore has played an important role in DHL’s global network since 1972, as one of our first international markets and a major Asian economy with a strong trade orientation. This was a key factor in the decision to base one of our four global Quality Control Centers and the centers of excellence for global service quality and business IT in Singapore.”

Singapore has been a central part of the DHL Express growth story in Asia Pacific, and investments such as our current EUR 85 M commitment to build a new hub at Changi International Airport are testament to the importance of the market to our overall network,” said Jerry Hsu, CEO, DHL Express Asia Pacific. “Beyond the overall growth story, however, Singapore already plays host to a number of centers of excellence within DHL, thanks to the high caliber of logistics expertise and the country’s well-documented support for the transportation sector, which contributes over 9% of GDP. This latest investment underscores Singapore’s status as a center of excellence for quality in international logistics within DHL.”

The global service quality team at DHL is responsible for setting and driving quality standards within the DHL global network. They aim to enhance customer satisfaction through continuous improvement. Quality Control Centers have been employed by DHL since 2007, when they were first pioneered within the Asia Pacific region. They provide real-time tracking capabilities for individual shipments, flights and truck movements. The teams operating in the centers monitor the status of DHL’s delivery network to identify exceptional incidents and delays and take proactive action both to address them and to inform customers. In addition, the activities of the global Quality Control Centers allow the company’s global network operations team to identify systematic issues affecting the delivery process and take steps to resolve them, contributing to improvements in global service performance. Quality Control Centers can also operate as a crisis center in the event of major regional or global crises that could affect DHL customers. DHL has four global Quality Control Centers: in Cincinnati, U.S.; East Midlands, U.K.; Leipzig, Germany; and Singapore.

64% of Leading APAC Bankers Feel Unprepared for a Cyberattack

leave a comment »

-FICO Survey: Only 41% of APAC banks have a cyber-incident response capability in place

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ —

SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 55% of senior APAC bank executives were unsure if their organization currently ran regular audits of data and networks to check if the company had suffered data loss.
  • 73% of respondents said their CEO/Company board had prioritized a review of cybersecurity in the last 3-6 months.
  • 58% of respondents said they had not heard of a predictive analytics alternative to traditional rules-based SIEMs (security information and event management).

For more information: http://www.fico.com/en/fraud-security/cyber-security

As incidents of cybercrime continue to make headlines across the globe, financial institutions are giving more attention to cybersecurity, but a new survey by FICO suggests that APAC banks may be lagging. In a survey conducted at FICO’s Asia Pacific CRO Forum, 64 percent of senior bank executives from the region said they feel unprepared for cyber-attacks today, despite cybersecurity being a clear priority for them.

According to a 2014 PwC report, cybercrime is the second most prevalent economic crime faced by financial institutions and 36% of people in financial services expect to experience cybercrime in 2015.

FICO’s survey shows that while cybersecurity has become a top priority for leadership, APAC banks may not be up-to-date on the latest technology. 58 percent of respondents in the FICO survey said they had not heard of a predictive analytics alternative to traditional rules-based SIEMs.

According to FICO’s survey, only 41 percent of APAC banks have a cyber-incident response capability in place.34 percent of respondents indicated that they didn’t have any such capability or they were still considering putting one in place. A final 22 percent were currently developing their response capability.

The survey was conducted at the 2015 FICO Asia Pacific CRO Forum, held earlier this year in Bangkok, Thailand. A total of 34 senior risk officers and banking executives representing 23 financial institutionsacross the region participated.

Dan McConaghy, President of FICO Asia Pacific, said, “For many banks, cybersecurity is a shared domain of the IT and Fraud departments. In order to effectively combat ever-evolving cybercriminals, it is necessary for financial institutions in Asia Pacific to connect fraud and cyber information, systems and investigations. This holistic approach is needed to limit damages to customers, systems and the bank’s reputation.”

FICO has leveraged extensive IP assets from its banking technology, including streaming analytics and anomaly detection techniques used within its market-leading FICO® Falcon® Fraud Manager software, for the creation of an analytics-driven cyber security solution that is highly differentiated from current industry offerings and complementary to existing infrastructures and investments.

Analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Funding Patterns in the Global Pharma and Biotech Industry(http://www.frost.com/nf54), reveals the volume of venture capital (VC) deals fell by 41.2 percent between 2010 and 2014, while private equity (PE) deal volume declined by 23.4 percent. However, investors will become established within the pharmaceutical and biotech industry to avail long-term returns.

“Corporate investors expect to play a significant role in intensifying competition and replenishing the depleting drug pipeline,” said Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Saneesh Edacherian. “The strong return of the initial public offering market in the U.S. is likely to further encourage Private Equity/Venture Capital investors, especially in the biotechnology sector.”

Key trends within the pharmaceutical and biotech industry include:

  • The rise of market demand for drugs.
  • Governments striving to contain drug prices.
  • A decline in profitability of large pharmaceutical companies.
  • Firms experiencing patent expiries and revenue losses.
  • A decline of research & development by large pharmaceutical companies.

“Shrinking pipelines and increased cost pressures make mergers and acquisitions a lifeline for participants in the pharmaceuticals sector,” noted Edacherian. “Mergers and acquisitions are either approached as an exit option for investors, or as a strategy for leading pharmaceutical companies to expand their capabilities in the global market.”

The UK is the Market Leader in the Development of Tidal Energy Solutions, Finds Frost & Sullivan

leave a comment »

-A joint effort from regulatory, technology, funding and infrastructure stakeholders globally can turn the tide in favour of this renewable source

LONDON /PRNewswire/ — The growing emphasis on renewable and carbon neutral energy generation has pushed tidal energy into the spotlight. Tidal energy being more reliable than wave energy has a few operational plants with substantial capacity across the globe. New, experimental concepts such as dynamic tidal power, which enable production even in low-tide regions, possess the potential to disrupt existing technologies and make tidal power a key energy resource.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Tidal Energy: Current Status and Future Outlook(https://www.frost.com/d66c), finds that the United Kingdom is the frontrunner in the development of newer tidal energy solutions buoyed by an ideal tidal pattern and a supportive regulatory scenario. Canada, China and South Korea are also showing steady progress. The United States is one of the top innovators.

“The success of smaller demonstration plants will propel the immediate adoption of tidal stream and tidal barrage technologies,” says Technical Insights Research Analyst Lekshmy Ravi. “The deployment of hybrid energy systems consisting of a combination of tidal and offshore wind energy seems probable in the long term.”

Although the basic technology of tidal energy is similar to that of wind turbines, the harsh conditions of the ocean multiply the issues faced during operation. Hence, parameters such as material strength, performance, maintenance and lifespan of tidal converters are aspects that research and development (R&D) efforts must address. Low capacity factor and high costs are further drawbacks.

The setting up of R&D centres and funding institutions dedicated to the cause of tidal energy generation will be crucial to speed up advancements. For example, the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) is a main driver for the progress of in-stream tidal energy in Canada.

“Stakeholders must build a coordinated, multi-disciplinary strategy for tidal power to continue creating ripples in the renewable energy sector,” urges Ravi. “A concerted approach by regulatory agencies, technology developers, funding bodies and infrastructure firms will open the floodgates of development and give rise to tidal energy solutions with significant industrial and societal value.”

Tidal Energy: Current Status and Future Outlook, a part of the Technical Insights subscription, provides a technology overview of current and emerging tidal energy technologies evaluated following extensive interviews with market participants. The study discusses the technical features in a tidal energy system as well as restraints, drivers, funding, R&D initiatives, technology management strategies, roadmap and tidal energy projects across the globe.

LONDON, July 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ —

Chat app underpinned by Acisions forge SDK to deliver innovative rich communications capabilities and video streaming to users

ACS (Asset Consulting Services), a development house which designs and creates apps for iOS, Android and Windows devices, has partnered with Acision, the global leader in mobile engagement services and industry innovator in WebRTC technology, to implement rich communications functionality into its WhichApp private messaging app.

Available on the Apple App store and Google Play, ACS’s WhichApp is used by 700,000 people today, sending over 66 million messages per month. The new and updated service, named ‘WhichApp Now’, launched in May 2015, leverages forge by Acision to provide users with an innovative chat experience, adding real-time video capabilities in the background to chat messaging. The integration with the forge SDK enables secure, real-time video messaging, all at the touch of a button.

Stefano Galizia, Co-Founder and CTO of ACS, commented: “For the first time, real-time, live streaming is being integrated into our chat app.forge by Acision has enabled us to launch WhichApp Now service, providing new ways for our users to share experiences and intimate moments, which is innovative and instantaneous. After looking at a number of rich communication SDKs on the market, we selected forge because of its secure technology, as well as its inherent stability and simplicity of integration into our service. We quickly developed and tested the new functionality and, just a month after the launch of the new release, we saw almost double the number of downloads and usage of video minutes in the first 30 days – which is astounding growth.”

Eric Bilange, EVP and Head of Rich Engagement Services at Acision said: “Enabling people to better connect with their friends and family with real-time video streaming like WhichApp does is a great example of how applications today should view their user experience. Our forge SDK allows developers to build and easily integrate rich communications into their apps, including 1:1 and group voice, video, chat/IM, presence, recording and notifications and much more. The possibilities that real-time communication opens up is limitless and it will be a great boost to stimulating usage and adoption of any application, including these new over the top (OTT) apps. It is great to be part of the WhichApp success story!”

In the coming months, ACS is planning to add additional features to WhichApp using the forge SDK, including real-time group chat as well as voice and video conferencing. WhichApp also has features such as Ghost Chat, where users can show ‘touch and go’ moments with pictures and text, which are automatically removed. The app also offers a translation service so that if users receive a message from a friend in a different language it will be automatically translated.
