Economic Expectations for Europe Strongly Influenced by Greek Crisis

leave a comment »

NUREMBERG, Germany/PRNewswire/ —

Results of GfK Consumer Climate Europe for the second quarter of 2015

The lengthy negotiations between Greece and its creditors have clearly influenced the mood of consumers in most European countries in the second quarter of this year. Particularly in Eastern European countries, however, the crisis between Russia and the Ukraine is also playing a major role. Nevertheless, the GfK Consumer Climate EU28 has increased by 1 point overall since March, to 10.8 points. These are results for the GfK Consumer Climate forEurope from 15 European countries.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20150710/234911 )

The Greek crisis largely set the mood for European consumers in the second quarter of this year, and the economic expectations in several individual countries has stagnated or decreased as a result. At the time of the poll, which was carried out in the first two weeks of June, the negotiations between Greece and its creditors had increasingly come to a head. The recent climax (the projected failure of the negotiations, potential closure of Greek banks, the referendum and then the last minute agreed deal) is therefore not reflected in this survey.  It is assumed that the mood of the people in Europe, primarily within the Monetary Union, may deteriorate even more significantly over the summer, depending on the Greek outcome. This applies, in particular, to countries like Germany, Italy, France, andSpain, which either bear a high share of Greece’s debts or are also struggling with a difficult economic situation.

The developments of the income expectations as well as the propensity to buy vary among the different countries. Country-specific influences in the second quarter were stronger here than the possible effects of Greece’s exit from the European Monetary Union. Nevertheless, the GfK Consumer Climate EU28 has increased by 1 point overall since March to 10.8 for the second quarter.

About the study

The results of the GfK Consumer Climate Europe are taken from the consumer poll that is conducted on behalf of the EU Commission in all countries of the European Union. Approximately 40,000 persons are surveyed in the 28 countries every month. These respondents are representative of the adult population of the EU.

Malaysian Scientists Publish the Very Latest Results on Colorectal Cancer Screening Using the M2-PK Rapid Test in the Renowned Journal PLOS ONE

leave a comment »

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia /PRNewswire/ — Scientists from the Department of Medicine at the University of Malaysia have recently presented the very latest data from a study on colorectal cancer screening using the M2-PK stool test in the renowned publication PLOS ONE. These latest results for the M2-PK test from the cancer specialist Professor Khean-Lee Goh – one of the most renowned experts in Asia on this subject – and his colleagues confirm once again the exceptionally high capability and accuracy of the M2-PK test for colorectal cancer screening.

Professor Goh investigated the enyzme biomarker M2-PK in a patient group with 100 colorectal cancer cases and a population-based control group of 200 healthy people. The M2-PK test detected 93% of colorectal cancers. Furthermore, it recognized 97.5% of the control group as truly healthy. The positive predictive value for colorectal cancer was 94.9% and the predictive value to exclude colorectal cancer (negative predictive value) was 96.5%. The overall accuracy of the M2-PK test was 96%.

The investigators also made two additional important findings. Firstly, the M2-PK test has a very high detection rate (sensitivity) for right-sided (85.7%) as well as for left-sided colorectal cancers (94.2%). This result is especially important because right-sided colorectal cancers are more often missed than left-sided with conventional screening methods.

Secondly, M2-PK had almost the same very high rate of detection (sensitivity) across all four tumour stages (stage 1 = 94.1%; stage 2 = 88.9%; stage 3 = 96.4%; stage 4 = 90.3%).

The M2-PK rapid stool test is available for the doctors’ practice as ScheBo®.M2-PK QuickTM (ScheBo.Biotech AG).

Disney Unveils Detailed Look at Shanghai Disneyland–Its First Theme Park in Mainland China

leave a comment »

— Shanghai Disney Resort Features a Disneyland Park with Six Themed Lands, Innovative Attractions and Immersive Entertainment Designed Especially for Chinese Guests

SHANGHAI/PRNewswire/ — Today The Walt Disney Company unveiled key creative elements of Shanghai Disneyland, including its six themed lands filled with world-class attractions and live entertainment spectaculars – many of them a first for a Disney park.

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger revealed a scale model of the world-class theme park and displays showcasing key highlights of unique attractions, entertainment, dining and hotels at a presentation held today at the Shanghai Expo Centre.

“We are building something truly special here in Shanghai that not only showcases the best of Disney’s storytelling but also celebrates and incorporates China’s incredibly rich heritage to create a one-of-a-kind destination that will delight and entertain the people of China for generations to come,” said Iger. “We are taking everything we’ve learned from our six decades of exceeding expectations – along with our relentless innovation and famous creativity to create a truly magical place that is both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.”

A joint venture of Disney and its partner Shanghai Shendi Group, Shanghai Disneyland is designed to appeal to Chinese guests – taking the best of Disney and delivering it in a way that is created especially for this audience. It will extend the 60-year legacy of Disney Parks around the globe.

Since breaking ground in 2011, Disney and Shanghai Shendi Group announced that they were expanding the park by adding additional attractions and entertainment to allow more guests to have a spectacular Disney experience at Grand Opening in spring of 2016.

Shanghai Disney Resort, part of the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, is a complete vacation destination and at opening will include:

  • Shanghai Disneyland, a theme park with six themed lands: Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove and Fantasyland, with its Enchanted Storybook Castle.
  • Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel, imaginatively themed and adjacent to the theme park.
  • Disneytown, an international shopping, dining and entertainment district, adjacent to Shanghai Disneyland and including the Walt Disney Grand Theatre, home to the first-ever Mandarin production of the Broadway hit Disney’s THE LION KING.
  • Wishing Star Park, a central point of the resort with beautiful gardens, a walking path and a glittering lake.

Shanghai Disney Resort guests will find something for everyone. They will be immersed in popular Disney stories that come to life at the largest castle in a Disney park, at the first pirate-themed land in a Disney park, on the longest Disney Parks parade route and in more enchanting places filled with thrills, creativity and adventure. Throughout the resort, visitors will be treated to the Disney difference: warm hospitality and world-renowned guest service delivered by Disney cast members.

At Shanghai Disneyland, six themed lands offer something for everyone, memories for all

Shanghai Disneyland, the first theme park of its kind in Mainland China, will be a world of possibilities and a place to create memories that last a lifetime. Guests will enjoy the lush gardens, live stage productions and thrilling attractions and will also encounter Disney characters in each land, including Mickey Mouse and his pals, Disney princesses, Captain Jack Sparrow and Winnie the Pooh.

Mickey Avenue is the first main entry at a Disney park inspired by the colorful personalities of Mickey Mouse and his pals. In the neighborhoods of this whimsical avenue, guests will share a hug and get a photo with some all-time favorite Disney characters. Avenue M Arcade, one of the many shops along the avenue, will feature the largest selection of gifts and collectibles inside the theme park.

Gardens of Imagination celebrates the wonders of nature and the joy of imagination. Guests will take a spin on the Fantasia Carousel, soar on the back of Dumbo the Flying Elephant and enjoy the area’s iconic Disney entertainment, including Castle stage shows and “Ignite the Dream, a Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light.” From several places in this land, guests will enjoy “Mickey’s Storybook Express,” a parade with its own musical soundtrack and colorful performers on the longest parade route in a Disney park.

Fantasyland, inspired by Disney’s animated films, will be the largest land and home to the Enchanted Storybook Castle. Guests will experience familiar Disney stories as they ride Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, go in and out of tunnels glowing with dazzling diamonds on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and take flight over the skies of London on Peter Pan’s Flight. They may also explore the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh or follow Alice through a Wonderland maze.

Adventure Isle will immerse guests in a newly discovered lost world, filled with hidden treasures. The mighty Roaring Mountain will tower over guests and they may blaze their own trails at Camp Discovery, travel around the world on Soaring over the Horizon or embark on the thrilling rafting adventure through the heart of Adventure Isle on Roaring Rapids.

Treasure Cove will be the first pirate-themed land in a Disney park, a place to join the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones. As guests explore this pirate world, they will enter Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for the Sunken Treasure, an attraction that transforms a boat ride into a journey with cutting-edge innovations in robotics, animation, set design and multimedia. Guests will board a pirate ship, paddle through the scenic cove on Explorer Canoes and dine at Barbossa’s Bounty.

Tomorrowland celebrates the limitless possibilities and optimism of the future in Shanghai. Disney’s innovative use of technology has produced a land where guests will go to infinity and beyond on Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue, a new space ranger adventure, or break the bonds of gravity on Jet Packs. A massive, color-shifting canopy will lure guests to TRON Lightcycle Power Run, a coaster-style attraction where guests board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles for one of the most thrilling adventures at any Disney park.

Nearby Tomorrowland will be two experiences created especially for Shanghai Disneyland – Star Wars Launch Bay and Marvel Universe. In a celebration of the Star Wars Galaxy, guests will meet heroes and villains of the saga, visit iconic intergalactic set-pieces, view props and memorabilia from the most recent Episode, and be immersed in the Skywalker story through a state-of-the-art cinematic experience. In Marvel Universe, guests attend a multimedia mission briefing on the world of Marvel, get up-close with some popular Marvel Super Heroes and take on the role of comic book artist as they learn to draw some favorite characters.

At night, the sky above Enchanted Storybook Castle will be painted in dazzling light, with music, special effects and fireworks, adding a special “kiss good night” for all the guests at Shanghai Disney Resort.

A Disney Park filled with “firsts”

At the center of Shanghai Disneyland, the iconic Enchanted Storybook Castle will be the tallest, largest and most interactive castle at any Disney theme park. It’s also the first castle in a Disney theme park that represents all the Disney princesses. Other “firsts” at Shanghai Disneyland will include:

  • Adventure Isle, a mysterious land, with an ancient legend about a native tribe, a giant, reptilian creature, and the mighty Roaring Mountain.
  • Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, an enchanting, new excursion that celebrates classic Disney tales of magic and imagination as it travels the waters of Fantasyland, going underneath Enchanted Story Book Castle for a finale never before seen inside a castle.
  • Tomorrowland, a venue with an original design and new attractions to celebrate the hope, optimism and potential of the future, created especially for the people of China.
  • TRON Lightcycle Power Run, which promises to be one of the most thrilling attractions at a Disney park, with a twisting, turning track, high speeds, rich storytelling and a breathtaking view of Shanghai Disneyland.
  • Garden of the Twelve Friends, where animals of the Chinese zodiac are re-imagined as Disney and Disney•Pixar characters.
  • Treasure Cove, the first pirate-themed land at a Disney park, leveraging innovative technologies in the new Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for the Sunken Treasure and a stunt show spectacular featuring Captain Jack Sparrow.

Unique Hotels, an Entertainment District and a Nature Park at Resort Opening

The Shanghai Disneyland Hotel is an elegant Art Nouveau-inspired resort with a touch of Disney magic and imagination, while the Toy Story Hotel immerses guests in a world inspired by the toys from the Disney•Pixar series of Toy Story animated films.

Disneytown, a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment district adjacent to the theme park, will be tailored to Chinese guests, with familiar experiences, colors, symbols and design integrated into the area, including traditional Shanghai Shikumen architecture. Disneytown is home to the Walt Disney Grand Theatre, the separate-ticket venue for the global premiere in Mandarin of Disney’s theatrical event, THE LION KING, one of the most successful Broadway productions in history. Another “must-see” for guests will be the innovative World of Disney Store, offering a comprehensive collection of Disney merchandise, including many products designed especially for Shanghai Disney Resort.

Near Disneytown will be Wishing Star Park, offering guests an opportunity to enjoy greenery and a glittering lake. With approximately 40 hectares, it includes Wishing Star Lake, a 2.5-kilometer walking path and various beautiful gardens.

Hotels and Airlines have minimal representation amongst the most popular travel apps finds Strategy Analytics

-OTAs account for more than 30% of the 25 most popular travel apps with Airbnb and Booking.com leading the way

BOSTON /PRNewswire/ — New data from the June Travel Analytics’ Monthly iPhone Travel App Tracker  covering 150 individual countries  indicates severe regionality of travel apps which are most popular in Europe accounting for 5.5% of the most popular free applications whereas the category accounts for just 1.6% in Africa.

Travel Category Popularity on iPhone per Region - June'15
Travel Category Popularity on iPhone per Region – June’15

The data should help travel companies create more targeted global distribution strategies with appeal to local markets. One key facet, however, is nearly universal across the globe – travel apps are seen as a local-first apps. The most popular apps are navigation – Maps.ME appeared in 100% of countries each week in June. Other popular apps include Uber, Yelp and Foursquare  all appearing the most frequently across the 150 countries analyzed. For hotels and airlines competing to reach connected travelers the lack of momentum placed on their apps should be concerning as ever more resources are invested in developing applications.

In fact, of the 25 most popular apps 8 were OTAs (Airbnb, Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia, Kayak, trivago, Hotel Tonight and momondo), 2 were airline apps (Lufthansa, United) and 0 were hotel apps. The dominance of OTAs, combined with the lack of branded hotel and airline apps demonstrate how iPhone owners want to book travel experiences and are putting OTAs in a position of power on the mobile device. This will be exploited as more consumers in more countries begin using mobile devices for travel bookings.

Click here for the report   http://bit.ly/1DgnYZd

According to Joshua Martin, Chief Researcher of the Application Strategy group, “While the travel category may be less popular in most emerging markets, companies should see this not as a challenge but as an opportunity. Applications and smartphones are the way that many of the next billion internet users will first come in contact with these well-known travel brands which present an opportunity for customer acquisition. Ensuring apps are regional and country specific, speak to various global audiences and provide a quality experience are essential during these first run branding exercises.”

The June tracker will be released across several vertical markets and track  on an ongoing monthly basis  changes to various categories across the globe. Subsequent trackers  to be published in mid-July – will look at entertainment and health and fitness.

Asia Plantation Capital Launches Tree Eye Monitoring

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — After several years of detailed research into the best and most efficient methods available to monitor the growth and provide additional security to its high value plantations,Singapore-based Asia Plantation Capital has applied for a patent on a new system which is based on computerised aerial drones, linked to a central control system and programmed to monitor their plantations.

This new system has been successfully tested over the last nine months on plantations in Thailand and is now set for implementation on all the company’s high value plantations and installations.

“Over the last few years, we have tested and installed various systems on our plantations as part of our constant policy of research and development. This includes remote sensors for soil temperature, rainfall, nutrients, tree growth sensors and humidity which are supplied by Singapore-based Bio machines,” says CEO Barry Rawlinson. “Real time camera monitoring has always been proven to be problematic on large scale plantations that stretch over substantial areas.”

The use of these latest aerial camera drones, which are equipped with GPS tracking and the function to set pre-determined flight paths, allows for consistent coverage of plantations, delivery of valuable real-time growth and photographic data to management teams on the ground.

Asia Plantation Capital is working on developing this into a web portal application to allow clients and tree owners to regularly receive updated aerial images of trees on the plantations. Previous systems have proved unreliable due to extremities of climate and the remote nature of many plantation sites, causing fixed cameras to fog up and relay poor images.

Additionally, drones can cover huge areas in minutes, and also allow Asia Plantation Capital’s trained operators to zoom in on the areas they want, even individual trees. The added security benefits include being able to patrol large scale plantations in minutes, at any time of day and night, with night vision cameras being a massive benefit.

First developed in-house by Asia Plantation Capital’s IT departments and forestry managers, the company intends to further develop this technology for commercial usage by other plantation and agricultural companies under the Asia Plantation Capital brand.

Major uses of the Tree Eye System include monitoring work progress, harvest processes and providing physical security measures. In addition, the system brings, to daily operations, an entirely new monitoring facility with the ability to reach inaccessible areas in minutes. Some of the species grown on plantations, like agarwood, teak and palm oil, have extremely high values. Ensuring the safe delivery from plantation and processing to the end product is always a principle concern of plantation owners — one which Asia Plantation Capital puts to rest.

About Asia Plantation Capital

Quick facts:

  • US$ 600 million – combined value of assets owned and under management
  • US$ 53.5 million – turnover in the last financial year

Asia Plantation Capital is the owner and operator of a diverse range of commercial plantation and farming businesses across the Asia-Pacific region and around the world, and is part of the Asia Plantation Capital Group of associated companies. Its focus is on multicultural and diverse plantation projects geared to the domestic and commercial demands of the countries in which it operates. Working closely with, and supporting local communities, is an underlying core principle of the Asia Plantation Capital business, providing social and cultural support, as well as investment, to move these communities away from deforestation and illegal logging activities, previously seen as a main source of income in some regions of Asia. Established officially in 2008 (although operating privately since 2002) the group now has plantation and agricultural projects on four continents, with operational projects at various stages in Thailand, Malaysia, China, Laos, India, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, North America andEurope.

Promoting the use of sustainable and certified wood is the best way of preventing deforestation, protecting biodiversity, and combating poverty in the tropical rainforest regions. For the yachting sector (a major user of teak) which strives for excellence and which is already involved in environmental efforts, this is also a way of ensuring that no wood from illegal logging is used.
