PORT ELLEN, Isle of Islay, June 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — His Royal Highness The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, today visited the world famous Laphroaig Distillery on Islay in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the brand. Laphroaig, owned by Beam Suntory, is the only Single Malt Scotch Whisky to bear a Royal Warrant, a mark of recognition to those who supply goods or services to the Royal Households. The Duke led a toast to the anniversary by raising a dram of limited edition Laphroaig 15 Year Old Single Malt.

The visit is the third that the Duke has paid to Laphroaig over the last 25 years. The Royal Warrant was issued during the year of his first visit in 1994, and he returned as part of his 60th birthday celebrations in 2008.

The Duke, who in Scotland uses his official Scottish title the Duke of Rothesay, was hosted by John Campbell, Distillery Manager of Laphroaig, Patrick Loudon McIain Stewart, Lord-Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute, Lady Lithgow, Depute Lord-Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute and Mick Ord, Director of Scotch and Irish Whiskies at Beam Suntory. During the visit, he met a number of Laphroaig employees, filled, bunged and signed an ex-bourbon cask and was given a tour of the distillery. He also unveiled a plaque in the Friends of Laphroaig’s field to officially open a cairn (a traditional Scottish monument made of rough stones) commemorating the 200th anniversary. At the end of the tour, the Duke was presented with gifts for both himself and his wife the Duchess of Rothesay, including branded ‘Friends of Laphroaig’ wellington boots and bottles of Laphroaig 15 Year Old.

The Duke’s visit also marks the launch of The Laphroaig Legacy Fund, a charitable initiative aimed at supporting Islay’s people, community and environment in 2015. The Legacy Fund has been created to both celebrate the distillery’s past and help to secure the future of its community by supporting local projects and businesses that are promoting the sustainability of Islay living. This year, bottles and casks of 40 Year Old whisky signed during the Duke’s last visit will be auctioned to raise money for the fund. A corporate donation from Beam Suntory and £1 donation from every bottle of Laphroaig 21 Year Old and Cairdeas sold through the Laphroaig Visitor Centre and Online Shop in 2015 will also be put towards the fund. Following an application and selection process, a series of targeted grants will be issued to the successful beneficiaries; these could include community projects, environmental sustainability programmes or initiatives that enhance the skills sets of islanders.

Laphroaig, which was this year crowned Best Visitor Attraction in Scotland 2014/2015 by the Scottish Thistle Awards, is also celebrating its 200th anniversary with limited edition commemorative releases of Laphroaig 15 Year Old, Laphroaig 32 Year Old, and Laphroaig 21 Year Old.

John Campbell, Distillery Manager of Laphroaig, says, We are absolutely delighted to welcome the Duke back to Laphroaig  to commemorate what is a momentous year for our distillery and brand. We are extremely grateful for his ongoing support over the years, which has helped enable us to preserve the unique heritage of the Scottish whisky industry and to give back to our community. Our 200th anniversary is an opportunity for us to continue to support the region through The Laphroaig Legacy Fund, celebrate our position as an integral part of the local economy, and help ensure that the community of Islay can prosper into the future.

About The Laphroaig® Legacy Fund

The Laphroaig Legacy Fund will commemorate the 200th anniversary of Laphroaig by providing financial support to local projects or businesses that are promoting the sustainability of Islay living. A corporate donation from Beam Suntory and proceeds from the sale of a cask signed by HRH The Prince of Wales, Duke of Rothesay, 200th anniversary products sold through the Laphroaig Visitor Centre and Online Shop and distillery tours will contribute towards the Legacy. Applications and selections will be made during the summer, and selected recipients will be notified in August 2015.

About Laphroaig® Scotch Whisky

Laphroaig (La-‘froyg) literally means “the beautiful hollow by the broad bay.” Born from the streams and blue peat smoke of Islay, Laphroaig is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky with a distinct taste and story in every bottle. The secret to Laphroaig is that it benefits from the happy circumstances of where it is produced-next to ocean water and on land that gives Laphroaig a unique peaty taste. It is one of only a few distilleries that still uses traditional malting floors and dries and infuses its own malt with the thick blue smoke from old peat-fired kilns. It’s also the only single malt Scotch whisky to bear a Royal Warrant bestowed by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay. Further demonstrating the whisky’s superior quality, Laphroaig 10-Year-Old Cask Strength and Laphroaig Quarter Cask each received a Gold Medal at the 2014 International Review of Spirits while Laphroaig 10-Year-Old won a Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

leave a comment »

HONG KONG/PRNewswire/ — UBM Asia announces today that its annual Shanghai International Children Baby Maternity Industry Expo (CBME China) will move to the National Exhibition & Convention Center (NECC) in Hongqiao, Shanghai in 2016 and the fair dates are 20 – 22 July.

CBME is the world’s largest sourcing event for children, baby and maternity products. CBME China 2015, taking place from 22 – 24 July, will fully occupy all 17 exhibition halls at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), covering over 200,000 square metres of indoor gross space and reaching the maximum indoor capacity of the centre. The move to NECC in 2016 will enable CBME to expand considerably, allowing more and larger country and group pavilions such as those from the USA, UK, Spain, Italy, Australia, Korea, andTaiwan.

Jime Essink, President & CEO of UBM Asia, said: “We are really pleased with the additional venue capacity inShanghai as a result of the new NECC venue. This offers UBM Asia ample opportunity to grow our larger events inShanghai, both in the SNIEC and NECC venues. Shanghai is definitely set to become the exhibition capital of the world. We are looking forward to a very successful CBME 2016 in the NECC venue.”

UBM’s existing events at SNIEC are growing strongly as they cater to the increasing demand from a variety of industries.

Essink added: “We are very happy to see the continuous growth of our events at SNIEC. This year, we have moved Sign China, LED China and LED Lighting China fairs (16 – 19 September, 2015) from Guangzhou toShanghai to open new doors and business opportunities for the industry. Shanghai with its international reputation, financial importance and business openness provides an ideal backdrop for these trade events. These truly international shows drew over 12,000 overseas buyers in 2014 and the location in Shanghai will attract even more this year. Current sales progress indicates that the 2015 event in Shanghai will be the largest ever edition in its 13 year history.”

The China International Printing Industry Exhibition (CSTPF), acquired by UBM from SUNEXPO in January 2015, is another annual event that adds to UBM’s growing portfolio in Shanghai. The fair, held from 14 – 16 April this year, occupied 11,500 square metres.

Shanghai will also see UBM’s new launch of China Railway + Transit Exhibition and Conference in December 2015. CRTEC, co-located with Marintec China which has been held in Shanghai for more than 30 years serving the global shipbuilding industry, will help China realise its “One Belt, One Road” economic and infrastructure connectivity with the rest of the world.

Another exciting development is that of Hotelex Shanghai, organised by UBM Sinoexpo, a UBM joint venture company in Shanghai. Already one of the world’s most important shows of its kind, specialising in all supplies required by the hospitality industry, Hotelex will be extended to two phases from 2017. In addition to the 200,000 square metres already leased in March 2017, SNIEC has confirmed a second 200,000 square metres slot in April 2017 for a second phase of this trade event. Hotelex Phase 1 will feature catering, tableware, food & beverages, coffee & tea, and food related products, while Phase 2 will focus on hotel supply, textile, IT & security, building & interior, furniture & accessory, vending machine, and cleaning.

UBM Sinoexpo organises other major shows at SNIEC, namely CPhI/P-MEC China and Fi Asia-China which ran from 24 – 26 June 2015 with a record number of 3,500 exhibitors, and Furniture China which will be held from 9 – 12 September 2015, occupying all indoor and outdoor space at SNIEC plus all indoor space at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre which is also in Pudong. The total of 380,000 square metres gross will make Furniture China 2015 the largest ever.

Neoconix Releases New Low-Profile X-Beam(TM) Electrical Connector Family

leave a comment »

— Ideal Solution for Mobile Applications Requiring Robust Battery and Signal Connections

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Neoconix (www.neoconix.com) today announced immediate availability of its new X-Beam™ family of electrical connectors. Featuring an ultra-low-profile form factor and a simplified SMT assembly process, the X-Beam product family is the latest Neoconix offering specifically developed for mobile and communications applications. Key electrical capabilities include high current capacity (up to 12 amps) in combination with excellent high-speed signal capabilities (up to 20 Gbps).

Neoconix X-Beam
Neoconix X-Beam

The first set of products within this family, X-Beam Mobile FPC Battery Products, is comprised of three part numbers (XBM-G016A, XBM-G028A, XBM-D048A). With up to 12 amps of current carrying capacity and four additional signal contacts for temperature and over voltage sensing, these connectors are capable of supporting even the most demanding mobile applications. This power-performance is achieved in a total height of approximately 1.0mm and PCB area of less than 80mm2.

The X-Beam technology also offers the ability to have either internally ganged of discrete contacts. Internal ganging is connecting all the positive (+) contacts together and the negative (-) contacts together within the connector. The redundancy lowers the terminal resistance to less than 3 milliohms to reduce temperature rise and improve battery life. An X-Beam product with discrete contacts in a battery application will rely on contact redundancy on the corresponding FPC contact pads, but adds versatility in combining power and high speed signaling within the same connector.

An excellent example is the 48 position X-Beam connector. It is fully compatible as a USB3.1 plus power delivery interface, with six high speed differential pairs for USB 3.0 & 2.0, four signal contacts for audio, and current capability up to 5.0 amps. The X-Beam connector meets the USB specification for less than -1.8dB loss at 15GHz.

“We developed the X-Beam family to provide a compelling solution for all types of mobile applications which typically are space and cost constrained,” said David Chen, Senior Director of Operations. “The family has been optimized to provide significant cost savings for contact densities of 50 or below and is one of the only solutions on the market enabling both power and multiple high speed signals in the same connector — saving tremendous space and cost for the manufacturer.”

The X-Beam products employ a robust z-axis compression contact geometry that has been proven on Neoconix interposers for over a decade. This design leverages a fully-understood and predictable performance capability in terms of working range, contact force, and environmental / life expectations.

The X-Beam connectors are RoHS compliant and may be surface mounted using industry standard reflow processes. Alignment features co-molded into the liquid crystal polymer (LCP) carrier allow simple positioning and alignment of the flexible printed circuit (FPC) onto the connector during final assembly.  Assembly features include a vertical blind-mate tapered lead-in and one step screw retention — leading to significant reductions in time of assembly.

The X-Beam Mobile FPC Battery Products are available today as standard products off the shelf. For more information please contact Neoconix or an authorized sale representative. You may also visit our website at:

Holcim Automates Logistics Services With Schenck Process’ LOGiQ Software

leave a comment »

DARMSTADT, Germany, April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ —

– 18 cement locations in Eastern European logistics project networked and standardized

Holcim, one of the world’s largest cement manufacturers, has optimized its automated dispatch processes and weighing technology in its Eastern Europe plants in a move towards becoming a smart factory. Since the beginning of the year, the LOGiQ logistics software by Schenck Process has been automating all process and data management relating to dispatch services in the company’s 14 locations from Slovakia to Bulgaria. Four other locations are currently in the process of being connected to the highly available dispatch automation system. Including all Outbound-, Inbound- and AFR transports by truck, train or ship.

New generation of LOGiQ in use at cement manufacturer

From the mill to the concrete plant or directly to the customer: The key to the success of construction projects relies on smooth delivery of cement. With the new generation of LOGiQ the cement manufacturer is able to network, manage, and document all stages of its intralogistics via Internet and Web 2.0 technology. Quick, efficient, and most importantly insusceptible to manipulation. LOGiQ shortens waiting times, takes advantage of time, and helps save on raw materials.

Automated shipping processes interlock new hardware and software components with existing ones while relying on networking local intelligence. All major components of the hardware and software modules from the LOGiQ portfolio are currently in use at the 18 Holcim locations. LOGiQ controls the workflow management system from orders receiving to printing delivery notes automatically and in the local language of Holcim’s customers. All transactions between the delivery point, mixers and scales, operator terminals and loading bays are logged, stored, and archived. The orders are smoothly reported to the ERP system (SAP) without loss.

LOGiQ sets up smart factories

The cement manufacturer has set itself the ambitious goal of unifying all business processes across Europe. With the help of LOGiQ and the team at Schenck Process, the phase in Eastern Europe is nearing successful completion. “We are headed in the right direction towards a smart factory,” says Ionut Grosu, Head of Automation and Electrical in the Regional Support Organization Emerging Europe. The automated solution smoothly handled more than 10,000 transport orders in the 14 locations in January alone, the month it went online.

International Business School Suzhou at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University PhD Director’s New Book Takes Contemporary Look at Chinese Economy

leave a comment »

SUZHOU, China /PRNewswire/ — PhD Programme Director of International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Professor Ron Schramm, has released a new book, The Chinese Macroeconomy and Financial System: a US Perspective (Routledge, April 2015).

PhD Programme Director of International Business School (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Professor Ron Schramm
PhD Programme Director of International Business School (IBSS) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Professor Ron Schramm

This book plays a vital role in understanding the present and future paths of the world’s two largest economies —China and the United States.

Different from traditional economics books about China’s economy that take an institutional or historic approach, Professor Schramm’s book looks at the economy as it is today using contemporary tools from macroeconomics, finance, accounting and even management to help explain the Chinese economy; he takes literally the notion thatChina is run like a company.

“I wrote this book because I believe there’s a need for better understanding the Chinese economy,” Professor Schramm said. “In the U.S., the average university student has a very limited knowledge of the Chinese economy so I’m trying to convey a message about what the Chinese economy is really like and its financial system.”

Professor Schramm put his new textbook to the test on 40 senior students at IBSS who told him that he had taught them things about the Chinese economy they never really understood or knew. He said, “I was thrilled by that because I thought if Chinese students don’t have a good understanding of their own economy, how can we expect non-Chinese students to?”

Professor Schramm identifies four key drivers for the Chinese economy that make it unique and help explain its current and future performance. They are: China’s population or what he calls the “great economic shock absorber”; China’s high savings rate; the role of government and China’s labour force.

Morgan Stanley chairman and CEO, James P. Gorman, praised the textbook, saying, “The Chinese Macroeconomy and Financial System: a U.S. Perspective combines the nuanced insight of a decades-long expert in China with fundamental analysis of the unique demand, growth and policy dynamics that have driven its rise and recast the global landscape.”

Professor Schramm continues his research related to China, currently examining firm size distribution of investment banks in China. At a broader level, he is interested in applying tools from finance to macroeconomics questions — a field he describes as “Macrofinance.”

Mobile Gaming: Incentives, Timeouts and Updates Make User Experience More Compelling

leave a comment »

BOSTON /PRNewswire/ — Consumers are motivated to play video games because they relieve boredom, provide a challenge, create a more social atmosphere and help to escape reality. A recent study by Strategy Analytics (www.strategyanaltyics.com) has found that mobile gaming continues to primarily be for quick entertainment in downtime; in an average week, more time is spent playing mobile games outside of the home.

Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130207/NE56457LOGO-b

A new report from the Media and Services UX (MSX) group at Strategy Analytics investigating mobile gaming behaviours has identified four motivators that are making the mobile gaming experience more compelling. These include daily incentives for accessing and playing the game, game incentives for viewing advertisements, daily timeouts for game play and frequent game updates.

Click here for the report: http://bit.ly/1J5XKKT

Christopher Dodge, report author and Associate Director, MSX, commented, “Daily incentives for accessing and playing a game give users a progressive series of incentives. This helps keep the user motivated to continually launch the game even if they don’t continue to play, as the progressive incentives restart if one day is missed.”

Continued Dodge: “Incentives for viewing advertisements are beneficial for both the gamer and the advertiser. Consumers are more likely to view the ad and stay in a game if a reward of some sort was given; and at the same time, this could drive up full-length ad consumption generating more revenue from advertising.”

Kevin Nolan, VP, UXIP, added, “Boredom and completing a game are two primary reasons consumers delete mobile games. Daily timeouts for game play could prevent overuse and game deletion brought on by boredom, while frequent game updates are also more likely to keep users more interested and less likely to delete a game.”
