-Demonstration Showcases Improving Efficiency of Cloud-based Services through Sonus NaaS IQ Platform and Compass Networks’ SDN Forwarding Platform at Mobile World Congress

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ —

Key Takeaways:

  • Sonus and Compass Networks to demonstrate application optimsation based on the Sonus NaaS IQ Platform at Mobile World Congress.
  • Service providers can leverage their existing infrastructure to offer Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) offerings.
  • Operators can now increase efficiency of Cloud-based services through the combined technologies.

Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a global leader in enabling and securing real-time communications, andCompass Networks, a next-generation routing company and icPhotonics™ pioneer, today announced the companies are demonstrating how operators worldwide can improve productivity of new Cloud-based services through the Sonus Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) IQ Platform and the Compass Networks software-defined networking (SDN) Forwarding Platform at Mobile World Congress.

The Sonus and Compass Networks demonstration focuses on three key areas to accelerate the development of the architecture that improves network utilisation and ease of operation:

Frost & Sullivan Lauds InfinityAR’s Innovative Approach to Delivering Superior Augmented Reality Experiences

leave a comment »

— InfinityAR’s technology helps developers meet the need for 3D digital representation, and reduces the power consumption and cost of hardware for wearable devices

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California /PRNewswire/ — Based on its recent analysis of the augmented reality application developer engines market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Infinity Augmented Reality, Inc. (InfinityAR) with the 2015 European Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation Leadership. InfinityAR has clearly emerged as a leading innovator in the augmented reality application developer engine space with its low-cost and simple hardware, which provides product developers a balance between price and performance.

Infinity Augmented Reality Award
Infinity Augmented Reality Award

Conventional AR solutions rely on 3D depth sensors that actively project light onto the world. These sensors demand a lot of power due to the active projection and the required computations. In comparison, by using a passive, natural stereoscopic camera and efficient computer vision algorithms that do not require the entire CPU to process data, InfinityAR’s technology requires only one-tenth the power needed by conventional technologies.

Similarly, InfinityAR’s peer solutions often need separate hardware, such as 3D cameras or additional sensors, for light and motion tracking. InfinityAR addresses the need for low-power, affordable sensors for 3D scene representation with a pair of standard VGA 2D cameras placed next to each other as a stereoscopic solution. This innovative approach helps deliver the same functionalities as conventional technologies, while using fewer hardware components.

“The unique InfinityAR Engine can be scaled to cater to advanced functionalities in various product lines,” said Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Swapnadeep Nayak. “It provides image-matching capabilities to accurately identify the same point within an image frame from different locations at different points of time. This feature also facilitates the provision of more personalized content, as obtaining the position of the wearable device in 3D space is no longer a hindrance for the developers.”

InfinityAR’s functionality finds usage in wearable devices, mobile, smart TV, connected car, and tablet markets. The solution can be applied to diverse verticals, including online gaming; the tourism industry to allow tourists to first virtually experience their preferred destination; and in retail to better acquaint buyers with a product’s look, features, and dimensions, without seeing or handling the physical product.

The physical object digitalization module incorporated in the InfinityAR engine aids superior simulation of real-world settings. Through a dense stereo-matching technique, the technology can accurately understand the environment type, transparent or reflective, and the light source around the object.

“While conventional solutions only incorporate voice recognition technology, InfinityAR incorporates machine-learning algorithms for advanced control-and-gesture natural user interaction,” noted Swapnadeep. “This technology module enables users to not only interact with virtual objects through gestures, but also to control virtual, augmented reality objects through direct contact; for instance, handling and moving virtual objects in 3D space by hand.”

In recognition of its efforts to advance augmented reality technology, InfinityAR has earned the 2015 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated uniqueness in developing and leveraging new technologies, which significantly impacts both the functionality and the customer value of the new products and applications. — MiCLK is the Best Synchronization Solution for LTE/LTE-A Networks

BARCELONA, Spain /PRNewswire/ — RAD has announced that it will be expanding the timing synchronization capabilities of its Service Assured Access (SAA) solution when it introduces the world’s first SFP-based IEEE 1588 Grandmaster with a built-in GNSS receiver at Mobile World Congress 2015.

“LTE and LTE-A’s stringent synchronization requirements and the growing use of small cells in 4G networks create synchronization challenges in the backhaul segment, but existing solutions are either too expensive or do not provide full network coverage,” explains Ulik Broida, RAD’s Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. “With the revolutionary MiCLK, RAD makes it easy to upgrade existing backhaul networks to support LTE-A at an affordable price.”

Many network operators prefer to use IEEE 1588-2008 (also known as Precision Time Protocol, or PTP) and Synchronous Ethernet to deliver accurate frequency and time throughout 4G backhaul networks. They are reluctant to install GNSS at every cell site due to practical and cost reasons, as well as the growing concern about possible GNSS jamming and spoofing. However, accurate time distribution requires every network element between the time reference – the Grandmaster – and the cell site to support IEEE 1588. This could be an expensive and complex endeavor when the Grandmaster is located in a central PoP. “MiCLK allows network operators to avoid costly upgrades by bringing the Grandmaster to the base station,” says Broida.

Plugs into Any Networking Device
RAD’s innovative, patent-pending MiCLK is a miniature pluggable device that responds perfectly to the needs of next generation cellular backhaul networks. Its SFP design allows simple installation that effortlessly upgrades any network device with a fully featured IEEE 1588 Grandmaster, including a GNSS receiver and various redundancy options to sustain its operation in case of GNSS failure.

“Easily installed with minimal technical intervention, MiCLK is a versatile add-on anywhere in the network,” Broida concludes. “It is a valuable addition to mobile equipment vendor portfolios, and an ideal solution for 4G service providers in search of a quick, cost-effective way to bring accurate synchronization to small cell backhaul.”

In addition to MiCLK, RAD will also be demonstrating at Mobile World Congress 2015 its SAA performance monitoring and vCPE implantation options.

From March 17-20, MiCLK will be demonstrated at the Multi-Vendor Interoperability showcase organized by the European Advanced Networking Test Center, EANTC. The showcase at the co-located MPLS SDN World Congress and NFV & SDN Summit in Paris.
