GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Nov. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Volvo Cars unveils the long-awaited Cross Country version of its successful V60 Sportswagon at the LA Motor Show next week.

“We are delighted to add the third true Cross Country model to our product portfolio. The successful combination of dynamic styling and rugged capability place the V60 Cross Country in a class of its own,” said Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management at Volvo Cars.

The Cross Country brand has a long and distinguished heritage. Volvo Cars was the first premium brand to offer increased all-road capability and styling to its wagons as far back as 1997 when it introduced the V70 Cross Country, creating a whole new type of car experience that has since captured the imagination of the motoring public.

Reflecting Volvo’s Scandinavian heritage and love of nature and adventure, the V60 Cross Country brings together the best of both worlds – a sporty, connected yet comfortable driving experience with the freedom to explore new horizons.

Sporty capability

“With ground clearance increased 65mm compared to the V60, the Cross Country’s sturdy construction offers unparalleled control on and off the beaten track, coupled with an enhanced sporty driving experience thanks to torque vectoring technology and corner traction control. The V60 Cross Country really is a getaway car – enabling an adventurous lifestyle in a pure rugged form,” said Lex Kerssemakers.

Offering new Cross Country 18″ and 19″ wheels, the V60 Cross Country comes with high profile tyres, adding comfort and off-road aesthetics, reducing road noise and providing added wheel protection whether climbing kerbs or negotiating rocky roads.

Rugged individualist design

Central to the Cross Country concept is the expression of go-anywhere capability and rugged design. It caters to those who have an active lifestyle, favouring the dirt road over the paved, handling both with ease. This is manifested in the V60 Cross Country through explicit design cues that heighten the adventurous nature of the car. With increased ground clearance, skid plates front and rear, side scuff plates and fender extenders, the V60 Cross Country conveys an imposing, muscular presence that underlies its capable nature, while integrated tailpipes reflect its sporty dark side. To complement the capable exterior styling, sports seats in black leather with distinctive brown stitching will be available from launch, while two new two-tone leather upholsteries will be offered to coincide with the EU and Rest of World Launch in early 2015.

The US and Canada will get the first V60 Cross Country cars, and they will launch with Volvo’s iconic five cylinder 250 bhp petrol engine with All-Wheel Drive coupled to an automatic transmission delivering a highly competitive 23 mpg.

Drive-E power

Volvo’s new class-leading Drive-E four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, which will be available in the V60 Cross Country globally in early 2015, will be the base for the Front-Wheel Drive variant, while the proven five-cylinder D4 powertrain will provide the power for the All-Wheel Drive variant.

-iPoint-systems consolidates its market leadership in the field of Conflict Minerals reporting software / Customers from 76 countries

REUTLINGEN, Germany, Nov. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The software specialist iPoint-systems has reached another important milestone: on November 4th, the 20,000th company registered as a user of the iPoint Conflict Minerals Platform (iPCMP). “With this, iPoint have consolidated their position as the market leader for software and services in the field of Conflict Minerals reporting,” Joerg Walden, CEO of iPoint-systems, proudly explains. The iPCMP was launched in September 2012 and has since established itself as the cross-industry solution when it comes to complying with the legal requirements surrounding Conflict Minerals.

A glance at iPoint’s list of customers shows that companies from various industries all over the world are dealing with the issue of Conflict Minerals: Manufacturers and suppliers from 76 countries, a wide range of industries, and companies of various sizes rely on the iPCMP. Among others, the automotive, electronics, aerospace, mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, textile and clothing industries are represented, including companies with less than 50 employees as well as companies with several thousand employees, for whom iPoint offers suitable licenses depending on the company’s size and reporting requirements.

Since the adoption of the final Conflict Minerals rule by the US Securities and Exchange Commission SEC in August 2012, publicly listed US companies are obligated to submit annual reports disclosing the use of Conflict Minerals in their products. This also affects non-American companies working within the supply chain of a listed US company. With the launch of the iPCMP in September 2012, iPoint was the first to offer a fully developed solution for Conflict Minerals reporting. Currently, this on-demand cross-industry software solution is designed for compliance with the US Conflict Minerals legislation. However, due to its adaptability, the iPCMP can easily be tailored to support companies affected by new or similar regulations like the European Conflict Minerals regulation which is expected to be passed in 2015. For over a decade, iPoint’s software solutions have been supporting customers in complying with various regulations and directives subject to constant change and country- or state-specific implementation provisions (e.g. RoHS, REACH).

About iPoint-systems:

iPoint is the world’s leading expert in environmental product compliance and sustainability, focusing on software, consulting, training, and services for managing, tracking, and reporting data across the whole supply chain. iPoint’s adaptive and comprehensive software solutions give the visibility and control customers seek in managing compliance and sustainability.

PPP Launched to Improve Prevention of Women’s Cancers and Quality of Cancer Registries in Latin America and the Caribbean

leave a comment »

NEW YORK, Nov. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ —

  • PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) Foundation and International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) combine efforts to improve breast and cervical cancer prevention and control.
  • The partnership aims to improve understanding and practices among primary health care providers and patients for breast cancer screening and early detection as well as increase capacity of cancer registries in the region.
  • Three-year joint project is receiving $600,000 funding from IFPMA as well as in-kind contributions such as communications and infrastructure supplies.

The PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) Foundation and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) announced today a partnership to jointly build regional capacity to fight woman’s cancers in Latin America and the Caribbean. The three-year collaboration will allow the first phase of a$5M initiative to focus on women’s cancers in selected countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the Americas. Breast and cervical cancer are amid the most common cancers affecting women. Approximately 128,000 women died from breast cancer (92,000) and cervical cancer (36,000) in 2012.

The partnership aims to increase awareness of breast and cervical cancer and improve screening and earlier detection services to reduce the numbers of women who prematurely die from these cancers. In addition, the partnership will work with healthcare providers to improve their knowledge about innovative screening strategies.

The second key component of the collaboration is to improve the quality and completeness of cancer registries in selected Latin American countries. Cancer registries are necessary tools for cancer control, as knowledge of a country’s particular cancer situation helps make informed decisions on the targeted interventions to reduce incidence and mortality. Currently only two countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (Costa Rica and Uruguay) have national high quality population based cancer registries (PBCR).

“Reduction of mortality in women’s cancers lies in the ability to detect them at an early stage. The disparities in women’s access to early detection strategies and early care in the Americas is incredible,” said Dr. Ward-Robinson. “This project will create a framework from which to reduce the mortality of these cancers and improve patient outcomes. PAHO Foundation’s partnership with IFPMA illustrates how, by working together with the private sector, we strive to protect and promote the health of everyone in the Americas”.

“Partnerships are the way forward when dealing with complex challenges such as those posed by NCDs. Working across sectors enables partners to generate health outcomes that are transformational, hence sustainable. We are delighted to join forces with the PAHO Foundation to implement innovative strategies that help alleviate the NCD burden in low- and middle-income countries”, adds Eduardo Pisani, Director General, IFPMA.
