ASEAN Integration to Top Agenda at Cambodia Business Conference

leave a comment »

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Cambodia’s economic prospects at the heart of the ASEAN Economic Community, which will come into existence in 2015, will top the agenda on a number of panels at the International Business Chamber of Cambodia (IBC) Investment Conference, which runs from October 6-7 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen will open the conference, which will also feature a keynote address by Prudential Asia Chairman Donald Kanak and panels and break-out sessions covering every sector of Cambodia’s economy.

Cambodia’s contribution to ASEAN will be discussed in a panel on Cambodia’s Digital Future covering Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) as well as a panel on the country’s financial sector.

Government ministers who have confirmed their attendance at the conference include Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce H.E Sun Chanthol, Education Minister H.E. Hang Chuon Naron and Minister
of Posts & Telecommunication (MPTC)  H.E. Prak Sokhonn.

Representatives from regional blue chip companies are already expressing interest in attending what will beCambodia’s biggest networking event of the year.

Ministers, economists and business leaders will share their views on what ASEAN integration will mean forCambodia’s economy — with business leaders in the Kingdom upbeat about Cambodia’s potential to thrive in the 10-country economic community.

“ASEAN integration is coming at just the right time for Cambodia, which has enjoyed robust growth in recent years and will surely benefit from closer economic ties with its neighbors,” says IBC Chairman Bretton Sciaroni, senior partner at Sciaroni and Associates.

Cambodia has been a leading destination in ASEAN for foreign direct investment — which grew some 73% in 2012 and is likely to sustain double-digit growth as ASEAN integration draws near.

The Kingdom’s increasingly skilled workforce, ongoing economic and structural reforms and political stability are all proving attractive to a growing number of foreign investors in the country — mainly from ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific region, notably China and Japan.

Getting the inside track on who is investing in what will be a key feature of the networking events being planned for the IBC conference — which will allow delegates to mingle at cocktail receptions, lunches and a golf day ahead of the conference where relationships will be formed and business deals teed up.

leave a comment »

DOHA, Qatar /PRNewswire/ — Qatar Foundation’s “edutainment reality” TV program Stars of Science is returning for a sixth season on MBC4, with a competitive new format. The program bolsters interest in science and technology as well as accelerates the development of the region’s next generation of Innovators.

To view the Multimedia News Release, please click:

For its sixth season, Stars of Science will debut a new format aimed at increasing competition, pitting small groups of innovators against each other for the chance to turn their ideas into reality. Following a competitive selection process, twelve candidates aged 18 to 30 from across the Arab world are selected to come to Doha, where they are mentored by engineering and design specialists from across the globe.  The innovators’ resilience, ingenuity and teamwork are tested in challenges throughout the program as they develop their potential products from concept to working prototype with the ultimate goal of winning a share of the $600,000 prize money. A jury comprised of prominent tech experts and industry leaders examine candidates’ projects and determine who progresses to the next stage.

Thousands of applicants are considered during a six-country casting tour aimed at identifying the candidates with the best ideas.  In the first four episodes of Stars of Science, viewers will witness the casting sessions where 12 candidates will eventually be selected from across the Arab world.

Stars of Science searches the region for the most promising young innovators and connects them with world-class experts in order to bring their ideas to life,” said His Excellency, Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, Ph.D., President of Hamad bin Khalifa University, Qatar Foundation. “The program is stimulating a passion for science and technology among Arab youth, and is contributing to educational attainment and economic development in the Arab world.”

Through its six seasons, more than 28,000 young Arab inventors have submitted their ideas to Stars of Science.

Stars of Science candidates have established an enduring legacy of giving back to their communities.  Around the Arab world, Stars of Science alumni are actively mentoring other innovators, speaking publicly and supporting local startups. Alumni have also presented at TEDx events, the White House, international forums and toured schools to speak about the importance of STEM education.  The 80 candidates who have been featured on Stars of Sciencehave gone on to file 62 patents and found 16 regionally-based companies.

“The overwhelming interest from young Arabs aspiring to participate in Stars of Science is indicative of a renewed enthusiasm for science and technology throughout the region,” said Youssif Abdulrahman Saleh, perennial juror and General Manager of Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre in QSTP. “The high number of quality applications from talented, inspired people has made the selection process very difficult.  I have no doubt that the top 12 candidates ultimately chosen will be our best innovators thus far.”

This season, Stars of Science has launched a new website that allows fans to enrich their viewing experience. The website is an interactive hub for technology-related discussion and helps Arab innovators connect with resources and each other and will include a discussion forum and live chat option before, during & after episode airings where Jury members, experts and candidates themselves will be able to respond to questions by the general public.

Season 6 of Stars of Science is hosted by Khaled Al Jumaily who is joined by the co-host Haneen Al Naqdi for the first time. The program will premiere on MBC4 on 13 September, at 9 PM KSA / 6 PM GMT 2014. Candidates will confront challenges, race against the clock and compete with each other in 10 prime time episodes. HeckArt Studios to World Premiere ALTERGEIST with DIRECTV Exclusive

leave a comment »

LOS ANGELES /PRNewswire/ — On the heels of signing a 5-year output agreement, DIRECTV and HeckArt Studios have selected supernatural thriller ALTERGEIST from writer/director Tedi Sarafian (Terminator 3, Tank Girl) to be first up under the deal.  The film will world premiere October 9th on DIRECTV, where it will run exclusively until November 5th, immediately ahead of a platform theatrical release.

Shot on location at Korbel Champagne Cellars, ALTERGEIST follows a group of paranormal investigators as they search the famously haunted King’s Ransom Winery. As long-buried memories and deep-seated fears threaten to overtake the team, they are terrified to learn that even the ghosts fear the truly sinister presence that has plagued the family estate for generations.

Day-and-Date releases are becoming more common but opening a film on VOD weeks before it comes to cinemas is rare. “We are excited to world premiere ALTERGEIST on DIRECTV,” says HeckArt CEO Aaron Heck. “This emerging model has a number of benefits, including the national promotion undertaken by DIRECTV.”

HeckArt Studios will work with DIRECTV to build a national awareness of the film during the VOD platform’s exclusive window. “DIRECTV has roughly 20 million subscribers, and with over 115 million households in the USA, there are plenty of eyeballs to reach with other distribution outlets,” explains Heck. “As DIRECTV customers watch the movie at home, awareness will spread to other audiences, who will seek out ALTERGEIST elsewhere, such as in theaters or through EST outlets.”

The deal between HeckArt Studios and DIRECTV benefits both parties, providing DIRECTV with exclusive content for their subscribers, while raising awareness about the film ahead of launching it onto other platforms. As more exhibitors see the value this model can bring to indie theatrical runs, it may well be the future of independent cinema.

Supernatural thriller ALTERGEIST was shot entirely on location at the historic Korbel Champagne Cellars, established in 1882, and derives inspiration from true-life events on the estate, including paranormal phenomena and suspicious deaths.

About HeckArt Studios
An established film and commercial production company, HeckArt Studios recently expanded into distribution operations, recognizing the need for a different kind of distributor. In addition to acquiring completed films seeking distribution, HeckArt Studios continues to actively develop their own feature projects.

Frost & Sullivan: Cloud Computing Set for Exponential Growth in South Africa and Kenya as Infrastructure Develops

leave a comment »

— Enterprises are increasingly opting for hybrid models to place non-core applications in the cloud

CAPE TOWN, South Africa /PRNewswire/ — Rapidly expanding bandwidth capacities, following the landing of undersea cables, have led to the proliferation of data centres and established a solid platform for the development of cloud computing services in South Africa and Kenya. Enterprises are steadily embracing outsourcing and managed services for various business and technological benefits, further driving migration to cloud computing.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Overall Cloud Computing Market in South Africa and Kenya, finds that the market earned revenues of $114.6 million in 2013 and estimates this to reach $288.0 million in 2018. Software as a Service will become the most popular cloud computing platform.

Despite widespread awareness and the fact that cloud has been around for a couple of years in Kenya and South Africa, enterprises have understood and embraced cloud computing to varying degrees. By and large, actual adoption of these services continues to be dependent on sector, and more pertinently, on enterprise size.

“While private cloud services have been the main focus of tier I competitors in the large enterprise sector, the move towards public cloud is slowly gathering pace in both countries,” said Frost & Sullivan Information and Communication Technologies Research Analyst Lehlohonolo Mokenela. “Small and medium enterprises, in particular, are turning to cloud computing motivated by the availability of affordable and convenient public cloud offerings.”

However, security concerns and the lack of trust in third parties to manage internal IT systems are dissuading some enterprises and governments from employing data centre services. This outlook is especially prevalent in conservative verticals, such as the financial services and healthcare sectors, where security and compliance are critical to business operations. Nevertheless, insurance companies and banks are beginning to move their less critical applications to the cloud to reduce costs.

“Non-core applications, such as email and customer relationship management, will be the most commonly migrated solutions as organisations look to test the reliability of cloud services,” noted Mokenela. “It will be crucial for service providers to demonstrate the security of their solutions in order to allay consumer concerns and boost uptake in the South African and Kenyan cloud computing domain.”

Gotham – A City Where Legends Are Born and Villains Will Rise

leave a comment »

-**Gotham will premiere first and exclusively on WarnerTV on Thursday, September 25, at 8pm JKT**

JAKARTA, Indonesia /PRNewswire/ — WarnerTV has announced a September 25 premiere date for Gotham, this year’s most anticipated new TV drama. This prequel series explores the extraordinary good-versus-evil struggles in broken Gotham City; a city that’s the birthplace of the world’s most infamous criminals and legendary superheroes. The origin story featuring DC Comics super-villains and vigilantes, reveals an entirely new chapter that’s never been told before – before Batman, there was Gotham.

Gotham will premiere on WarnerTV on September 25 on Indovision and First Media
Gotham will premiere on WarnerTV on September 25 on Indovision and First Media

From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome), this one-hour drama follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the genesis of one of the most popular superheroes of our time.

With a reputation synonymous with law and order, Commissioner James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) is one of the crime world’s greatest foes. Everyone knows the name. But what is known of Gordon’s rise from rookie detective to police commissioner? And what did it take to navigate the layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

Brave, earnest and eager to prove himself, the newly-minted detective Gordon is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), as the two stumble upon the city’s highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes’ hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, Bruce (David Mazouz), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy’s profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham’s criminal justice system, Gordon encounters imposing gang boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), and many of the characters who will become some of DC Comics’ most renowned and enduring villains, including a teenaged Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (Camren Bicondova) and Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).

Although the crime drama follows Gordon’s turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, it also focuses on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, Alfred (Sean Pertwee) – a friendship that will last them all of their lives and will play a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he’s destined to be.

The crime drama has been fast-tracked to Asia and debuts on Thursday, September 25 at 8pm, just two calendar days after the US world premiere. Warner TV is available in Indonesia on First Media channel 259 and channel 163 on Indovision.

In Asia Pacific, WarnerTV is owned and operated by Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc., a Time Warner company. Please visit and for more information.
