Ambi Climate Launches on Crowdtivate

Ambi Climate solves common AC usage complaints caused by the inability of current air-conditioners to automatically maintain constant thermal comfort. Over the past two years, Ambi Labs has conducted online surveys across ten key markets in Asia, with over 4,000 respondents. Over 72% of respondents in the region identified with at least one comfort challenge, such as finding the room too warm, too cool, too dry or too humid at times.

Ambi Labs’ research indicates that these difficulties are largely due to the outdated design of existing AC remotes. Julian commented: “Current remote controls encourage the user to focus on power and temperature buttons, so it is unsurprising that many users engage in inefficient on/off control behaviour — they switch on their ACs when they are hot, and switch them off when it gets too cold. The resulting ‘yo yo-ing’ in temperature, as some of our research participants called it, is both uncomfortable and a waste of energy. They have also complained about needing to adjust their ACs as much as every 30 minutes, and some habitually wake up in the middle of the night to adjust the settings.”

This product resonates strongly with the Asian audience, with Ambi Climate recently winning the People’s Choice Award at Echelon 2014, the leading startup event in Asia. Many consumers have also expressed their support, leaving messages of encouragement like: “The aircon at my office is cranky, sometimes being too cold and other times being not cold enough. Frost & Sullivan: Focus on Product Differentiation and Innovation Will Sustain Alcohol Ingredients Market

ITC Rules Redesigned APEX Humidifier Still Infringes ResMed Patents

SAN DIEGO /PRNewswire/ — An International Trade Commission (ITC) ruling issued Friday held that, despite a redesign of its iCH CPAP device, Taiwanese device manufacturer APEX continues to infringe ResMed patents in its humidification. ResMed (NYSE: RMD) is the innovation leader and pioneer in designing and manufacturing devices for the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing.

“Our research and development teams are constantly researching and improving designs to reach new levels of comfort, performance and efficacy,” said David Pendarvis, ResMed chief administrative officer and global general counsel. “This result — and APEX’s own expert — affirms that the superior quality and functionality generated by ResMed innovation cannot be duplicated.”

The original ITC action filed by ResMed in March 2013 asserted patent infringement by four products: APEX iCH and XT Fit CPAP humidifiers, the WiZARD 220 full face mask, and the WiZARD 210 nasal mask.  In July 2013, APEX agreed to entry of an order prohibiting it from infringing ResMed’s patents. And as a result, APEX has been banned from selling infringing products in the United States.

APEX then redesigned its products and sought a ruling that it had avoided ResMed’s patents. In this new ruling, the full commission held that the APEX iCH humidifier continues to infringe. As a result, APEX should continue to be banned from selling the iCH humidifier in the United States. The redesigned APEX XT Fit was found not to infringe. But APEX’s own expert stated that the redesigned humidifiers compromised on functionality and performance. The redesigned WiZARD 220 full face mask — which now has a fused elbow instead of the more desirable detachable elbow — was found not to infringe on ResMed patents. Again, APEX’s expert noted that the redesigned masks sacrificed functional advantages present in the ResMed products. Finally, APEX chose to withdraw its redesigned WiZARD 210 nasal mask from these proceedings, so the July 2013 order remains in place as to that product.

Frost & Sullivan Recognises Keypasco’s Secure Authentication Services as a Game Changer for Reducing Authentication Spoofing while also Being Easy to Use

LONDON /PRNewswire/ — Based on its recent analysis of the secure authentication market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Keypasco AB with the 2014 European New Product Innovation LeadershipAward.

Keypasco’s software-based user authentication service is a non-invasive solution that can facilitate mobile migration. The twin ability to keep pace with the mega trend of migration towards mobility and address the growing menace of mobile device attacks will allow the company to dominate this emerging market.

An example of Keypasco’s ability to quickly and thoroughly address security gaps within the emerging mobile online banking arena is the XiaWeiFeng security service. It combines Keypasco’s device fingerprinting, geo-location, as well as risk intelligence software, and has features such as a one-key-lock function that allows the user to disable a bank account and/or card either online or offline. Frost & Sullivan notes that the company’s software can be embedded and is highly configurable with the user’s existing software.

The Keypasco solution’s biggest advantage is its ease of use. When employed along with the Vakten desktop software, the computer can use a paired Bluetooth connection as a proximity factor. The solution offers the same security level as traditional one-time password (OTP) token, possibly higher (MitM, and MitB support), and is drastically cheaper and provides protection for both mobile devices and computers at the same time. Keypasco offers integrated authentication for major web browsers such as Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Fire Fox, and Microsoft Internet Explorer as an agent-less service alternative to the agent-based solution.

Apex Medical’s Respiratory Therapy Product Receives Affirmation from USITC

TAIPEI, July 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Apex Medical Corporation (Apex, TWSE: 4106), a leading player in the Respiratory Therapy and Pressure Area Care sectors, announces that the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has issued a final advisory opinion, determining that Apex’s newly designed XT series continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) water tank and Wizard 220 mask are free from the patent claims asserted by ResMed, one of Apex’s major competitors. Apex further declares its plan of introducing an upgraded iCH water tank to the market in October 2014.

In September 2013 Apex requested the USITC to declare that Apex’s newly designed sleep-disorder breathing treatment products are not covered by the claims of seven ResMed patents that were raised in an earlier Section 337 investigation. On July 18, 2014, the USITC issued the final opinion in response to the parties’ appeals on the initial opinion of the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) issued one month earlier.

In the final and non-appealable opinion, the USITC upheld the ALJ’s ruling on the new mask design, confirming that the mask design is clear of ResMed’s asserted claims. Significantly, the USITC overruled the ALJ’s negative finding regarding the newly designed XT series water tank; the USITC determined that the new XT series CPAP water tank is free from ResMed’s patent assertions. The USITC affirmed ALJ’s finding that the petitioned water tank design for iCH series CPAP is covered by a single claim of one ResMed patent.

Meanwhile, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is reviewing the validity of five ResMed’s patents, including the claim relevant to the iCH series water tank, through a procedure named inter partes review. The USPTO is expected to render its decisions by early 2015.

“The USITC’s decision confirms our masks and XT series are clear of ResMed’s interference with patents. Peabody Energy: Australia’s Repeal of the Carbon Tax Rejects Policy That Makes Energy Scarce and Expensive

ST. LOUIS /PRNewswire/ — Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU) today praised the action of Australia’sParliament and Prime Minister in repealing the carbon tax, which has hurt consumers via high electricity costs and damaged the economy.

“The Australia Government’s reversal of the carbon tax is a lesson in leadership for the modern world,” said Peabody Energy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gregory H. Boyce.  “We encourage U.S. policymakers to take the same path and reject the Administration’s costly proposed rules on power plants.  Technology, not caps and taxes, is the key to long-term improvement in carbon emissions.”

In turning around the carbon tax, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said: “Today, the tax that you voted to get rid of is finally gone. A useless, destructive tax which damaged jobs, which hurt families’ cost of living and which didn’t actually help the environment is finally gone.”  The government has estimated that the repeal would save families A$550 per year.

Australia elected a new government last year with a mandate to repeal the carbon tax, which has caused an estimated $15 billion in economic impact in its first two years of implementation, according to government estimates.

Nations continue to push back against onerous carbon legislation and renewable mandates that exacerbate energy inequality, raise electricity costs and reduce economic growth.  Europe’s renewable strategy is being pared back, the continent is threatened by Russia’s energy security challenge, nations such as Japan are using significantly more coal, and multiple nations lead the world in economic growth using coal-fueled electricity.

Peabody believes that U.S. leaders can learn valuable lessons in rejecting defacto carbon taxes and onerous renewable standards. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates that the Administration’s proposed U.S. carbon regulations would cost the economy $50 billion per year.

The proposed rules would significantly increase power prices, costing each American household thousands of dollars over time. A Heritage Foundation study reports the cost to an average family of four at $1,200 per year of lower income and spending power. Low-cost electricity is essential at a time when a record 115 million Americans qualify for energy assistance and 48 million live in energy poverty.
