NEAT Tower, South Korea’s Tallest Skyscraper, Finally Opens in Songdo International Business District
SEOUL, South Korea /PRNewswire/ — The North East Asia Trade (NEAT) Tower, the tallest building in South Korea, now stands resplendent in Songdo International Business District, Incheon.

POSCO Construction and Engineering (CEO: Hwang Tae-hyeon), the contractor for the project, held a completion ceremony on the 10th of this month to mark the full operation of the building.
After 8 years of construction, the tower stands 305 meters high with 68 floors above ground, providing a diversified mix of different spaces, including offices, hotel rooms and even an observatory. Specifically, floors 2 to 33 will be allocated to local or international leading businesses and commercial facilities. Floors 9 to 21, in particular, will be occupied by Daewoo International, a Korean general merchant operating globally, to serve as its headquarters.
The 36th and 37th floors will provide spaces for banquets, restaurants, meeting rooms and other similar facilities, while floors 38 to 64 will accommodate a residence hotel with 423 guest rooms, including a penthouse on the top floor. An observatory with a full view of the surrounding business district is located on the 65th floor.
POSCO E&C made sure that it applied the highest level of security and anti-disaster measures to the building. For example, it deployed global positioning system sensors to help ensure the real-time measurement of vibration, displacement or deformation in the building caused by external factors, making it possible to preemptively identify any issues that could compromise the safety or structural integrity of the building.
In addition, the anti-disaster control center located on the first floor underground provides the ability to centrally monitor the power supply, lighting, CCTV system, access control and other utility services. The 30th floor and the 60th floors each have a shelter that can accommodate all occupants safely and promptly in the event of an emergency, such as a fire. The building has 29 elevators operating at a speed of 420 meters per minute and capable of carrying users from the ground floor to the observatory on the 65th floor within one minute.
NEAT Tower also plans to seek LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification, one of the most renowned environmental certifications in the world, from the U.S. Green Building Council. Examples of measures to meet the criteria of the certification include a system that collects and treats part of the sewage from the building for reuse in landscaping and the building’s toilet facilities. What’s more, its paint, carpet, wallpaper and other materials each feature a low content of volatile organic compounds.
POSCO E&C, the contractor for this project, is a globally recognized construction company that operates across a wide range of projects, including environmental and energy plants, urban development, large scale SOC projects, high-rise intelligent buildings and residential project. POSCO E&C brings to each project its plant engineering technologies and know-how accumulated from the construction of the steel mills in Pohang and Gwangyang that have remained globally competitive over the past 40 years.
Among such projects is the planning of extended urban development for Hanoi that the contractor won for 6.4 million dollars in September 2008 and successfully completed in July 2011. Focusing on the threefold expansion of the city area from 921 sq. km to 3344.6 sq. km, the project is one of the world’s largest master plans for urban development, involving all segments ranging from new towns, roads, water supply and sewage to power, waterway improvement, ailroad and telecommunications.
Another project is the Vattanac Capital Tower located at the center of Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, which the company completed in December of last year. With 4 floors underground and 39 above, the building is currently the highest of its kind in the country to be controlled on an automated basis. The total budget for the project was 180 million US dollars, with construction beginning in March 2010 and finishing in December 2013.
Meanwhile, Songdo International Business District where the NEAT Tower is located is only 15 minutes away from Incheon International Airport via the Great Incheon Bridge (21 km long) that opened in October 2009. It has a unique geographic advantage, given that 38 cities are within 2 hours’ flight. A day trip can be made to major international cities with population over 1 million, including Shanghai and Tokyo.
The district is now being developed as a center for international business that embraces international business centers, a residential complex and industrial parks for advanced biotechnologies and the knowledge industry. Some international organizations are also located in the district, including the Secretariat of the Global Climate Fund and the Korean office of the World Bank Group that opened in October 2012 and October 2013, respectively.
Within the district, POSCO E&C is involved in a variety of projects including high-rise buildings within the international business zone itself, as well as apartments, commercial installations and a park.
Coherus Announces Initiation Of Phase 3 Trial Of CHS-0214 (Investigational Etanercept Biosimilar) In Chronic Plaque Psoriasis (RaPsOdy)
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. /PRNewswire/ — Coherus BioSciences, Inc. announced the start of its Phase 3 trial of CHS-0214, a proposed biosimilar of etanercept (Enbrel®), in chronic plaque psoriasis (the RaPsOdy trial). This announcement follows the recent initiation of a Phase 3 trial of CHS-0214 in rheumatoid arthritis. The Phase 3 psoriasis trial is a 48-week, randomized, double-blind, active-control, parallel-group, multicenter, global study in subjects with active, chronic plaque psoriasis who are naïve to systemic biologic therapy. The study will seek to demonstrate biosimilarity between CHS-0214 and Enbrel® in terms of efficacy, safety and immunogenicity. The primary efficacy endpoint is based on percent improvement in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) at 12 weeks.

Landis+Gyr and RWE sign Smart Meter Deal for Poland
ZUG, Switzerland /PRNewswire/ — Landis+Gyr, the global leader in energy management solutions, will deliver smart meter products and software solutions to energy utility RWE in Poland for installation in residential buildings located in the city of Warsaw. Deliveries are due to start in September, with system installation scheduled for the end of 2014.
“We are proud to have been selected by RWE for this inaugural smart metering deployment in Poland,” said Andreas Umbach, Landis+Gyr’s President and CEO, “RWE’s vision of enhanced grid functionality is a great match with Landis+Gyr’s experience and capabilities.”
Under the terms of the agreement, Landis+Gyr will deliver its Gridstream™ end-to-end solution, including 50,000 smart meters and Gridstream™ AIM software to RWE in Poland. The system will have an interface to RWE’s existing IT infrastructure, and is designed to support its asset management needs, as well as its billing services. A four year service contract is also included in the contract terms.
RWE operates a number of companies in Poland, including RWE Polska and RWE Stoen Operator. RWE Polska, together with RWE East, is responsible for supporting the development of the Group in Poland. RWE Stoen Operator manages the Warsaw power network.
“Implementation of the smart grid concept in the area of our operation will essentially improve the level of energy efficiency of the system as a whole,” says Agnieszka Nosal, Board Member of RWE Stoen Operator and also responsible for AMI investments. “It will also allow for the development of distributed generation which is to play a major role in the future energy market. Investment in AMI will bring many benefits to end-consumers, providing them with access to actual consumption data, as well as enabling the utility to rapidly identify any interference in the network. The introduction of flexible product sales tailored to the lifestyle needs of individual customers will also come in the future.”

Between 2014 and 2019, RWE foresees that 25 percent of its investments will go into smart infrastructure, which totals 420 million Polish Zloty (approximately 100 million Euros). In the first stage of the project, which is due to be complete by the end of 2014, RWE will install 25,000 smart meters in residential buildings in Warsaw; full project completion is scheduled for December 2015. RWE will also invest in its network, overhead high voltage lines, as well as in medium voltage cable lines in urban areas.
There has been rapid smart metering development in Poland in recent years. The signing of a declaration inJune 2009 by the Polish National Energy Conservation Agency as well as the country’s three largest consumer organizations each called for the introduction of smart metering in Poland to increase energy efficiency for individual, institutional and industrial customers.

Aptuit Names Dr. Paul Overton Executive VP, Business Development & Marketing; Enhances Sterile Drug Product Capabilities

Glasgow Site Upgrades Cytotoxic Drug Product Manufacturing
Dr. Goldman also announced that a one million dollar investment in Aptuit’s Glasgow, Scotland facility financed an upgrade in the site’s sterile cytotoxic liquid and lyophilized drug product manufacturing capabilities. This upgrade, which will address the industry’s current need for capacity in cytotoxic GMP clinical supply, will be operational by January 2015. The installation of an Autofiller with Restricted Access Barrier Technology (RABs) will enable larger batch sizes for liquid and lyophilized drug products, increasing capacities from 2,000 units to more than 9,000 units. Additionally, the new equipment will achieve greater sterility assurance and operator protection.
David Stevens, Senior Director and Site Head at Aptuit Glasgow, noted that cytotoxics account for a real opportunity for Aptuit. He said, “It is expected that biopharmas will be increasing their cytotoxic injectable outsourcing over the next few years, driven by the robust demand for oncology and other high potency drugs such as Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) and IV fluids requiring a quick onset of action.
