The ASEAN Young Writers Award is the region’s literary prize which provides a platform for the creation of a new generation of writers
The ASEAN Young Writers Award is the region’s literary prize which provides a platform for the creation of a new generation of writers

Mr Amorn Kitchawengkul, Deputy Bangkok Governor, disclosed: “‘The ASEAN Young Writers Award’ was initiated last year as a lasting tribute to the celebrations of Bangkok as the UNESCO’s 13th World Book Capital as well as the 35th Anniversary of The S.E.A. Write Award. The competition also marks an effort to incubate the new generation of writers and form a new literary network to welcome the official integration of the ASEAN Economic Community or AEC.”

This year’s competition is in the category of short story — in English, or in a national language of a respective ASEAN member country. Two qualified winners will be selected from each of the ten ASEAN countries to join the Award Trip and the ASEAN youth event in Bangkok in August. They will be awarded a royal plaque of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (now in the protocol of requesting royal consent) and a cash reward of 1,000 US dollars. In addition, they all will be given a rare opportunity to meet with Thai S.E.A. Write Awardees, while the winning works will be compiled and published for distribution around the region.

“For Thailand, 30 finalists will be entitled to an inspiring workshop with Thai S.E.A. Write Awardees and distinguished writers before two winners — one each for Thai language and English — will be chosen as representatives of Thai young writers to go on a study trip to the ASEAN Secretariat Office in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta,” revealed Dr Aphilak Kasampolkoon, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University, on behalf of the organising committee. “In other ASEAN countries, the selection of winners will be conducted in line with The S.E.A. Write Award,” he added.

Representing the judging committee is Assoc Prof Surapeepan Chatraporn, Deputy Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Arts, and President of the Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture International Programme from Chulalongkorn University. She elaborated on the rules and regulations that: “The contest is open to imagination of the applicants, hence no set topic of the entry. The rule is that an applicant must submit a fiction-type short story of no more than 3,000 words in English language and in his or her national language. This competition is organised for the first time, and I would like to invite all young writers in Thailand and the ASEAN to be a part of this exciting award. We hope our new literary award would continue to grow healthily just like its predecessor, the much sought-after S.E.A. Write Award.”

Young writers of 15 to 24 years of age who bear the nationality of ASEAN member countries can be a part of the history by submitting an application form along with their writing work from now until the end of this month.

GRONINGEN, Netherlands, June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Crowdynews, the social media curation platform for media companies, today announced an online live social media streaming page devoted to Ukraine events.  The page provides real-time perspective from people on the ground experiencing the country’s volatility. The page gathers social media posts, photos and videos from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Vimeo and others for a complete perspective of events as they happen.  News outlets are using the Crowdynews platform to augment their traditional reporting with social media and engage readers.

“Social media has dramatically transformed the media industry,” said Edwin Kuipers, CEO of Crowdynews.  “In breaking news environments, such as what’s happening in Ukraine, social media reporting and imagery have become just as critical to a well-rounded story as coverage by trained journalists.  Crowdynews lets media organisations combine the trustworthiness and reliability of traditional news reporting with the mass appeal of social online discussion, and find new digital revenue streams in the process.”

Crowdynews is a platform that gathers and filters relevant social media content and posts it in real-time next to topical, popular stories.  The platform uses advanced technologies such as natural language processing and artificial intelligence to achieve over 90% relevancy rates in more than 25 languages.  The technology monitors social media feeds, collects relevant posts and ranks their relevancy and value-add.  The organisation can also set up rules to filter results based on criteria such as profanity or local language. The results are published in real-time without requiring the editorial staff to monitor or edit the content.  Crowdynews is the only social media curation platform that is both multi-lingual, globally scalable and pulls from a list of premium social media services.

Pricing and Availability
The Crowdynews platform is available now in 25 languages and easily scales globally.  The platform consists of three products:

  1. The Crowdynews Article Widget runs alongside a news story to give Twitter commentary relevant only to that story.
  2. The Crowdynews Breaking Burner application is best for situations like Ukraine where a full, dedicated online page with breaking news from all social media sources is needed.
  3. Crowdynews Amplifinder pulls only from expert social media comments, such as the organisation’s own journalists and editors or other industry experts for a more qualified social media discussion.

Crowdynews shares its advertising revenue with media outlets using the Crowdynews products, creating a new digital revenue stream for media outlets with no implementation costs. Customisation of the product is quoted on a case-by-case basis.  Advertising revenue is shared monthly.

Videology Finds Almost 100% of Video Advertisers Buy in a Reserved, TV-Like Fashion

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE, June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Videology – one of the world’s largest video advertising platforms – today released its 1st Quarter 2014 findings on the video advertising market in the Asian Pacific region, which shows the vast majority of advertisers are buying their online video ads the same way they do on TV — in a reserved fashion.

“While many of the headlines have focused on the use of real time bidding, reserved buying at a fixed CPM remains the mainstay of TV-centric advertisers buying video in a programmatic fashion,” said Scott Ferber, Chairman and CEO of Videology. “As television and video continue to converge, the same advertisers who rely on the guaranteed, time sensitive delivery offered by television are looking for those same guarantees in video. Reserved, automated buying has always been a mainstay of our offering. Clearly, it resonates with advertisers using the platform, as almost all campaigns are purchased in this way.”

According to the analysis, which is based on over 156 million impressions delivered via Videology’s platform from January through March 2014 in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, 97% of advertising campaigns were purchased on a guaranteed CPM.

This is the first time that this type of data was made public, as Videology recently enhanced its global quarterly Video Market At-A-Glance reports to include metrics around buy type in order to reflect the increased focus in the industry around brand-focused and TV-like digital buying. This is also the first time Videology released a Video Market At-A-Glance analysis for the APAC region.

Additional highlights from the report include:

  • CPG continued its reign as the top video ad category, increasing its share from 45% in Q4 2013 to 50% in Q1 2014. Retail gained the most ground of any category quarter-on-quarter, increasing its share on the platform five-fold to 23%, good for second place in Q1.
  • Of the 13% of advertisements using advanced targeting (beyond demo targeting), 37% were geo-targeted, and 36% were domain-targeted, while 23% targeted by daypart, and 4% were behaviourally-targeted.
  • Advertisers are starting to branch out from PC; in Q1, 10% of all campaigns used both PC and mobile to deliver their messages.
  • APAC advertisers catered to the 35-44 age group the most in Q1, targeting 26% of all impressions to them. In comparison, the European region targeted the 25-34 age group most.

The full APAC Video Market At-A-Glance and other country-specific versions are available on videologygroup.com.
