Cavium Announces Availability of Complete TD-LTE Support for OCTEON Fusion(R) Small Cell Base Station Processors

Spectrum regulators around the world have assigned capacity to TD-LTE, including 50MHz in recent European auctions. In many cases this is re-farming the spectrum that was to be used by WiMAX. Because spectrum is expensive and crowded, this “vacant prime real estate” is a major asset for carriers. TD-LTE has largely been supported by traditional macro cell products until now. The contemporary architecture of small cells, delivering better network efficiency and making best use of spectrum, had not been widely available for TDD.

At the Mobile World Congress conference in February, Cavium announced UniFiRAN, an end-to-end software solution that will enable a seamless RAN (Radio Access Network) architecture in 3G and 4G networks. Suthep Leading a Thai Taliban, Says Lawyer Amsterdam

LONDON, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Following a speech delivered yesterday by lawyer Robert Amsterdam to a massive Red Shirt rally in Bangkok, the former Democrat Party member and anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban issued an aggressive attack quoted by local media.

“He is a bloody farang, why does he interfere in Thai politics?,” Suthep said, repeatedly referring to Mr. Amsterdam as a “bastard” for suggesting that individual members of anti-democracy network should face international sanctions. “They want to convince the world to be on their side and force us to accept the opinion of international community. But what does the international community know about Thailand?”

In response to Suthep’s statement, Mr. Amsterdam issued the following comment:

“It’s a great disappointment that this is what passes for dialogue among the PDRC. Under Suthep’s leadership, his organization has threatened and attacked voters much like a Thai Taliban. Using the language of ‘reform,’ the Democrat Party network of senators, judges, and bureaucrats are conspiring to deprive millions of Thai citizens of their right to vote by seeking the unlawful removal of yet another elected government.”

“It’s clear that Suthep is deeply concerned by the recent news that the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is looking into alleged interference by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in parliamentary affairs by probing of 308 senators and former members of parliament for voting for a constitutional amendment. The international community should continue to remind these anti-government Thai elites that another judicial coup shall not be tolerated.”

World’s Largest Investors Engage Stock Exchanges on Sustainability Reporting Standard for Companies

BOSTON, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Sustainability advocacy group Ceres, in collaboration with BlackRock and other major institutional investors across the globe, announced an initiative to engage global stock exchanges, via the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), on a uniform standard for sustainability reporting by all exchange members.

The group released the Investor Listing Standards Proposal: Recommendations for Stock Exchange Requirements on Corporate Sustainability Reporting, which includes specific recommendations for incorporating environmental and social disclosure requirements into listing rules for publicly-traded companies. The proposal has been formally submitted to stock exchanges in conjunction with the launch of an exchange comment period that will run for several months. The WFE will collect exchanges’ feedback on the Investor Listing Standards Proposal.

The proposal was developed through consultation with over 100 institutional investors from six continents, including many of the world’s largest pension funds.

The start of the exchange comment period coincides with the announcement that the WFE has launched a Sustainability Working Group.

“We need a joint solution that will help bring more consistent and comparable information to all markets, and will not leave any one exchange at a competitive disadvantage for taking leadership in this space,” NASDAQ OMX CEO Robert Greifeld said.

“Cross border collaboration by stock exchanges will help shift public companies towards more comparable and meaningful disclosure of ESG (environmental, social and governance) risk factors,” said Gwen Le Berre, Vice President of Corporate Governance and Responsible Investment at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager. “This will enable investors to more accurately value companies and make better informed investment decisions.”

“A global standard for sustainability reporting would give investors data to assess performance and risk, while allowing exchanges and companies to address specific market regulations and cultures,” added New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, trustee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund.
