APR Energy’s fuel-efficient mobile turbine plant was the customer’s preferred solution, meeting strict EU emissions requirements and able to fit within the challenging space constraints at the mine site. APR Energy’s plant will run on diesel and offers the flexibility to seamlessly switch to natural gas if needed.

The project adds to APR Energy’s track record in the extractive industry sector that includes successful power projects in Mozambique, Guatemala, and Botswana. It is also the company’s second large-scale turbine contract following its strategic alliance with GE and acquisition of the GE power rental business in October of last year. The plant is expected to begin operations in late Q2 2014 and run through to late 2015.

“We are very pleased to have signed our largest-ever contract in the industrial sector,” said John Campion, Chief Executive Officer of APR Energy. “This is the second contract for large-scale power that we have signed in the last month and, together with the Myanmar project announced in February, adds to the rapid growth we are achieving in the Asia Pacific region in recent months. This project reflects the versatility that mobile gas turbines offer our customers, and shows that the technology can be applied not only to utilities, but to industrial customers as well.”

Clive Turton, APR Energy Vice President of Asia Pacific said, “Our mobile turbine technology provides the customer with the best balance of emissions control, footprint, and fuel efficiency, all critical factors in the choice of this particular customer. APR Energy aims to provide the broadest choice of generation technologies in our industry, and our projects in the region now feature mobile turbine plants, running on either natural gas or diesel, as well as gas reciprocating engine plants and diesel reciprocating engine plants.”

MANILA, Philippines, March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ —

Organises Seminar for banks to help meet FATCA * compliance

Newgen Software, a leading global provider of Business Process Management (BPM), Enterprise Content Management (ECM), and Customer Communication Management (CCM) solutions, is organizing a seminar on ‘Creating a Blueprint for FATCA Success’ in Makati, Philippines, on 3 April 2014.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130912/638839 )

In this seminar Newgen FATCA Center of Excellence (CoE) will elaborate on creating the right strategy and leveraging IT infrastructure for FATCA readiness and compliance. The Seminar will be addressed by Ms Rossana S Javier, Consulting Managing Partner PwC, Philippines. Selected participants will also have an opportunity to hold one-to-one discussions with Newgen CoE Team and PwC FATCA experts.

Speaking about the seminar, Mr Diwakar Nigam, Managing Director, Newgen Software, said: “Newgen FATCA solutions are an intelligent combination of our deep rooted understanding of the act, how it impacts Financial Institutions and our robust BPM and Case Management platform. This seminar will elaborate Newgen’s ability to build smart and flexible FATCA processes for banks. We will showcase how Newgen Case Management approach scores over leveraging usual AML (Anti Money Laundering) applications for FATCA compliance.”

Ms Rossana S Javier commented: “FATCA rules have been looming for a while and banks are aware that ultimately they will have to be compliant. There’s a general ‘wait and see’ attitude among the local banks on how FATCA will impact their operations. As in any other implementation, the sooner the bank gets its arms around the project, the higher the probability of successful implementation. Software solutions offer an option to facilitate compliance with FATCA rules. In the end, it is the bank’s willingness to meet the challenges of FATCA head on earlier rather than later.”

The seminar will be attended by business and compliance leaders from all major Banks in the Philippines. It will consolidate Newgen’s FATCA initiatives in the region. Newgen currently is already implementing FATCA solutions for two large Banks in the Caribbean Island.

Frost & Sullivan: Chemical Plants to Evolve From Conventional, Large-Scale Factories to Modular, Plug-and-Play Designs

leave a comment »

— Diversification into renewable chemical feedstock will pave the way for an integrated, safe and sustainable industry

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — In order to meet the escalating demands for innovative and economical chemicals, several global trends are defining the chemicals industry of the future. These trends range from the emergence of green chemicals and processes to nanochemicals and smaller, modular chemical factories of the future. Large scale chemical production plants that once filled the landscape are now being replaced by smaller, more modular plants with enhanced capabilities that expect to improve efficiency by 30 percent. The chemical industry of the future will not only require smarter processes and plant designs, but also an integrated system that will sense, respond and sustain feedstock flexibility, productivity, safety and profitability.

Analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Scorecard for the Global Chemicals Industry, finds that the share of bio-based chemicals is expected to grow to about 15 to 18 percent of global chemical sales by 2025. The development and implementation of biorefineries enables sustainable processing of biomass into marketable products and energy leading to both economic and environmental benefits.

For complimentary access to more information on this research, please visit: http://bit.ly/1gtGeay.

“Application and material advancements, particularly in fast-growth regions such as Asia-Pacific, are widening the scope of the chemicals market,” said Frost & Sullivan Industrial Automation and Process Control Research Analyst Sonia Francisco. “While emerging countries such as Turkey are taking steps to establish their chemicals market, others like Russia will continue to modernize infrastructure to support growth.”

Increased competition in the industry, feedstock pricing, varying customer requirements, and faster response times, means companies need to be more agile to respond to the growing market requirements. As new feedstock supplies and greener processes begin to shape the new chemicals ecosystem, chemical manufacturers are focused on various strategies such as the development of integrated value chains, innovation and technology management, and chemical recycling to name a few, to ensure growth and sustainability.

Current chemical processes attribute more waste than product, resulting in economic and environmental implications for operators. Furthermore, certain chemicals are explosive and hazardous in nature to produce under regular conditions, and require specialized production environments that increase the overall operational costs.

“The industry is looking at solutions that minimize energy consumption and environmental implications, but at the same time, enable cost-effective, smart, and sustainable production,” mentioned Francisco. “Process intensification and micro technologies will play a role in the creation of explosive chemicals, while nanotechnology will aid in the manufacture of nanochemicals with new capabilities.”

The growing demand for new applications will require collaborative initiatives to produce chemicals with more versatile characteristics. Diversification into renewable or greener chemical feedstock and the development of smaller, modular chemical plant designs, will pave the way for a more integrated, efficient, safe and sustainable chemicals industry.

Scorecard for the Global Chemicals Industry is part of the Industrial Automation & Process Control (http://www.industrialautomation.frost.com) Growth Partnership Service program. Frost & Sullivan’s related studies include: Trends in the Industrial Services Market, Analysis of Global Automation and Control Systems (ACS) Market in the Upstream Oil and Gas (O&G) Industry, Industrial Automation Market for the European Oil and Gas Industry—Key Insights, and Southeast Asia Automation Services Market. INTERMACH 2014 Set to welcome Over 40,000 Quality Buyers from 40 Countries!

leave a comment »

BANGKOK, March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — This year INTERMACH, ASEAN’s Leading Industrial Machinery and Subcontracting Exhibition, will mark more than 30 years helping build successful business for the Thai and ASEAN manufacturing industry. The 2014 event will be one of the largest and most comprehensive industrial machinery and equipment displays in the region, featuring top global companies from over 40 countries.

INTERMACH is the first international industrial machinery exhibition of the year and coincides perfectly with the industry buying cycle. This enables exhibitors to deliver machinery to clients before the end of the business year, boosting their production efficiency.

Mr. Sanchai Noombunnam, Group Director, UBM Asia (Thailand) the show organizer, said, “The ASEAN Economic Community will help expand and connect businesses with greater efficiency. The cost of doing business in Thailand has risen considerably, with higher production costs coming from upstream production. As a result, products must provide better value, especially items that require precision, accuracy and quality. Thailand needs to manufacture products of greater complexity which are higher priced. Mass production will relocate to other ASEAN countries and items can then be imported back to Thailand for assembly.

“Currently, an emerging industry is the automotive area, but within a few years, there will be more changes, principally involving medical devices and aerospace parts. Production facilities are now being developed in Singapore, Japan, the USA and Europe to address this. Companies are already expanding their production to include subcontracting aerospace & medical advice equipment. These business opportunities will require new machinery and technology that provides customized automation using flexible modular techniques and integrated software. This technology will give entrepreneurs a competitive edge, helping reduce costs and increasing efficiency which will further advance ASEAN as a major manufacturing hub. INTERMACH will have much of this equipment on display at the 2014 show and it’s an event you just can’t afford to miss,” the director added.

What you can expect at INTERMACH 2014

1,200 companies from 40 countries around the world with over 4,000 pieces of machinery and equipment on display. More than 100 products will be seen for the first time in ASEAN and Thailand.

Designer, Celebrity Stylist and Supermom — Nida Shay Launches in Singapore

SINGAPORE, March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Worn by local celebrities such as Channel News Asia’s Suzanne Jung and Yvonne Yong, fashion label Nida Shay has officially launched in Singapore. The label of high-end crystal embellished garments has shifted its headquarters from the United Arab Emirates to Southeast Asia.
Using soft luxurious fabrics with intricate details of hand embroidery and embellishments, NIDA SHAY spring/summer 2014 is a collection of timeless allure. Designed with a few surprises in pop colours such as pink and turquoise, the label combines modest cuts and flattering silhouettes with precious beads and stones.
“Singapore does not need another label for the girl next door but handmade, vibrant pieces that stand for traditional craftsmanship. I wanted to create a collection sparkling with the Arabian glamour that I have grown up with,” says creative director Nida Tahir. Focusing on high-level garments and intricate details, she fills the niche for bespoke and exclusive clothes. The colour palette varies from snow-white to strong colours such as pink, green and turquoise. “My clothes make a grand statement with the bold use of colours and elaborate hand work which I pay particular attention to,” says Tahir.
Nida Tahir’s love for design extends to interior decorating as well — private homes of The Royal Family of Abu Dhabi, Le Royal Meridien Hotel and residences of prominent persons in the UAE were on her client list. Her husband’s career made the designer recently shift her business to Singapore and leave her base — Abu Dhabi. Tahir says: “The fashion scene is distinctly different here but I am very excited to explore it. My collections for Singapore will be feminine and playful but still keep the elements of craftsmanship and glamour that define my brand.”
Private clients and TV stars such as Yvonne Yong adore her clothes. Yong says: “I love the bright and vibrant colours of Nida’s collections, and the use of silk which makes the garments very luxurious to wear. Nida’s signature embellishments add a point of difference, too.”
Nida Tahir relies on word-of-mouth marketing and regularly meets new clients through personal recommendations. “The sheikhas and women in UAE still love to order exclusive pieces that are adapted to their style — so I take orders from all over the world now. Through the use of my website and other social media portals, it has become significantly easier to reach out to a larger clientele base without even having to meet face to face,” says the designer.
Tahir designs bespoke pieces to flatter different shapes of bodies: “There is beauty in women of all shapes and sizes and it is important to feel confident in what you are wearing in order to carry it off well. I take the worry away when I design bespoke pieces for women who want to accentuate parts of their body that they like. It is important to me that every woman feels glamorous and confident when she wears my clothes.”
The mother of two young boys is a multi-talented designer: While the pattern making, illustration and designing take place at the new studio in Singapore, the clothes are still hand-embroidered and hand-stitched by highly skilled professionals in her atelier abroad. Tahir says: “It hasn’t been easy re-launching in a different city, I had to deal with a lot of challenges along the way, but I am lucky to have started early and spent a great amount of time in establishing a strong team. We have done a fabulous job of making it work with shared enthusiasm and determination. The key fact is that they believe in my vision and direction, embracing the challenges just the way I do.”
NIDA SHAY is available online on http://www.nidashay.com and by appointment at the designer’s studio. More information on http://www.nidashay.com and via +65-8223-2179.
