DHL’s Focus on Functional Excellence Pays Off

Over 80 external honors in Asia Pacific in 2013 across a range of functions, including HR, Marketing and Customer Service

SINGAPORE, Aug, 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — DHL, the world leader in international express delivery, has reinforced its claim to be ‘The International Specialists’ with external recognition in Asia Pacific across a broad range of functional disciplines in 2013.

The latest recognition, the Yahoo! Emotive Brand Award in Hong Kong, brings the total number of external honors won by DHL Express in Asia Pacific since January 2013 to 86 across 11 markets. Amongst these awards, 27 awards have been attained for Human Resources and Marketing related achievements and 31 have been won in the field of Customer Service.

There are three categories of JJA Jewellery Design Awards. Jewellery in the “Professional” category is judged according to levels of design, technique and quality. Items in the “Theme” category are judged based on their appropriateness for the Japan Jewellery Association’s “Bonds of Love” campaign. Meanwhile the “Newcomer” category is for jewellery created by students and young designers and that challenges traditional concepts.
This year there were 126 entries for the awards, with a total of 185 jewellery pieces submitted for the three categories. The number of the entries was 50% higher than the previous year.
Mr Hayashi Maruyama, Chairman of the Japan Jewellery Association, said: “I could strongly feel the creative enthusiasm and passion of the entrants from their jewellery this year. The judges and I were all very happy to see the dramatic increase of the number of entries, which indicates to us the strength of the surge in creativity in Japan’s jewellery industry today.”
Mr Ichiro Iino, Chairman of the Judging Committee, who is a professor of the Tokyo University of the Arts commented, “The Grand Prize winner was exquisite not only in its design and techniques but also in its presentation and imagination as a total package.”
Of the 126 entries, 38 entries, totalling 59 jewellery pieces, were selected for awards and put on display in the exhibition hall. In addition, the top eight winners were presented their awards at a special award ceremony and fashion show held on the Event Stage at the exhibition.
After being displayed at the Japan Jewellery Fair, the award winning pieces will go on display at the world’s largest jewellery fair, the September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair. After that they will be put on display at the Lalique Museum in Hakone, Japan, from October.

Prolexic’s SSL Key Sharing Tools Keep Customers in Control

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Aug. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Prolexic, the global leader in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection services, announced today that its secure socket layer (SSL) key sharing tools allow customers to maintain control of their SSL keys at all times, while making it easier for Prolexic to detect and stop encrypted Layer 7 (application layer) DDoS attacks. The SSL key sharing tools are provided with the Prolexic Application-Based Monitoring (PLXabm) service andPLXproxy, Prolexic’s on-demand, symmetric DDoS mitigation service.

Monitoring encrypted traffic with PLXabm SSL Hardware Security Module

An encrypted Layer 7 DDoS attack is detected and analyzed by examining packet headers, which require a customer’s unique SSL key to unlock. For quicker and easier DDoS analysis and detection, Prolexic developed the PLXabm SSL Hardware Security Module. Compliant with FIPS-140-2 Level 2 key management standards, the SSL Hardware Security Module facilitates decryption of SSL traffic bi-directionally and enables automated alerting when a DDoS attack is detected.

“This enhancement to PLXabm allows our engineers to identify and isolate the source IP address, which they can use to block encrypted Layer 7 attacks,” said Scholly. “Best of all, this approach ensures that our customers can maintain control over their SSL keys at all times.”

Stopping DDoS attacks in encrypted traffic with PLXproxy

Prolexic can mitigate encrypted DDoS attacks using its PLXproxy service once the customer’s SSL keys and certificates are uploaded and deployed to Prolexic. Customers can elect to have these items stored securely for reuse or to provide temporary certificates and keys that are revoked after an encrypted DDoS attack is stopped. To aid in this process, PLXproxy SSL Manager, a secure and efficient way to upload SSL keys and certificates, can be accessed through the PLXportal, an online resource devoted to giving Prolexic customers greater visibility into their Prolexic DDoS mitigation services and activity.

UNIQLO Launches Five Projects Around the World, to Help Children

Addressing educational disparity and poverty — with Novak Djokovic, world’s top-ranked professional men’s tennis player and UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador

TOKYO, Aug. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — UNIQLO today announces the launch of five projects around the world to help disadvantaged children by addressing educational disparity and poverty, under its Clothes for Smiles community outreach initiative. The projects include libraries and vocational centers in developing countries, working with world’s top-ranked professional men’s tennis player and UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador Novak Djokovic.

UNIQLO and Mr. Djokovic jointly initiated the Clothes for Smiles Project with the aim of helping disadvantaged children worldwide, and UNIQLO has earmarked JPY 1 billion in funding. Under the Project, UNIQLO solicited the public for proposals for projects that achieve its aim, receiving 739 from 46 countries. UNIQLO is working with Japanese non-profit organization Entrepreneurial Training for Innovative Communities (ETIC) to implement eight of these. Here follows an introduction of the first five to launch.

Library Project: Cambodia (Beginning early Sept. 2013)

After nearly thirty years of internal strife, Cambodia’s economy is growing, creating economic disparity and exasperating illiteracy and unequal access to education. To encourage child literacy, UNIQLO is building libraries, distributing books, publishing picture books, and promoting the importance of libraries. The project is in cooperation with the Shanti Volunteer Association.

Waku Work Center Project: Cebu Province, Philippines (Beginning early Sept. 2013)

UNIQLO, Waku Waku Work English Inc., and ETIC will jointly establish the Waku Work Center in Barangay Lorega on Cebu Island, where many unemployed parents are unable to send their children to school. To encourage self-sufficiency, the facility will function as an educational resource for children, a vocational training center, and a career development base. It will also provide vocational training, and Waku Waku Work English Inc. and ETIC plan to launch local businesses to create jobs.

Girls Soccer Project: Bangladesh, Ghana, and Zimbabwe (Beginning early Sept. 2013)

UNIQLO and Plan Japan will set up soccer teams and hold tournaments, to encourage self-confidence, independence, and teamwork among young women, while raising awareness of women’s rights, health needs, and sexuality. This aims to address poverty and traditional views on gender, which continue to limit educational opportunities and access to healthcare and other social services for young women.

e-Education Project: Manila and Mindanao, Philippines (Beginning April 2013)

UNIQLO is working with ETIC and non-profit organization the e-Education Project to offer disadvantaged children DVD lessons by some of the best teachers in the Philippines, with the aim of providing equal access to education. University students from Japan research local needs, and identify the best teachers in each target region to record the lessons, which UNIQLO and its partners then distribute.

Shopping Project: Belgrade, Serbia (Beginning Nov. 2013)

Faced with poverty and unemployment, children in refugee centers live in extremely insular environments, limiting their socialization and development. UNIQLO and non-profit organization Actions for Children in Crisis are offering children in Serbian refugee centers the chance to shop at a simulated UNIQLO store, providing an exciting opportunity to socialize. Children “shop” for new clothing donated by UNIQLO, and use play money to “buy” the items they want. Through the program, they also have the opportunity to express themselves through community building opportunities like dance performances.

Clothes for Smiles Project

UNIQLO and UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador Novak Djokovic jointly initiated the Clothes for Smiles Project in October 2012, to help disadvantaged children worldwide. UNIQLO has earmarked JPY 1 billion from its Fall/Winter 2012 sales of HEATTECH and Ultra Light Down to support this initiative. The project is divided into two programs. The first solicits and implements ideas from around the world to help disadvantaged children worldwide. The second funds initiatives to improve education for children, through a global alliance with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). UNIQLO has allocated JPY 5 hundred million in support of these programs.

Entrepreneurial Training for Innovative Communities (ETIC)

Entrepreneurial Training for Innovative Communities (ETIC) is a non-profit organization that contributes to social innovation by developing enterprising leaders who create new value in a range of fields. It works with a number of organizations throughout Japan, including businesses, universities, and government agencies, to support the development of bright young people.
