Menarini Singapore Launches the First and Only Drug for Premature Ejaculation in Singapore, to Improve Control over Ejaculation and Sexual Satisfaction for Couples

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE, July 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ —

  • More than one in three men in Singapore experience some form of premature ejaculation
  • Premature ejaculation is the most common sexual dysfunction in men, negatively impacting  overall quality of life and sexual satisfaction for couples
  • Menarini’s dapoxetine is clinically proven in studies involving over 6,000 men worldwide and is now approved in over 50 countries

Menarini Singapore, a member of the world’s largest Italian pharmaceutical company, Menarini Group, today announced the Singapore launch of dapoxetine, the first and only drug specifically developed for the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE). Menarini’s dapoxetine is now approved in over 50 countries.

PE is characterized by a lack of perceived control over ejaculation as well as negative personal consequences, such as distress or interpersonal difficulty, which leads to a decrease in sexual satisfaction and overall quality of life for both men and their partners. [1-6]

PE is the most common sexual dysfunction in men yet it remains underdiagnosed and undertreated. According to the Asian Perspective: Premature Ejaculation Prevalence and Attitudes (PEPA) among Singaporean Men study, PE affects 34% of men in Singapore at some point in their lives. [7]

The impact of PE on couples is evident. According to the 2013 Asia-Pacific Sexual Behaviours and Satisfaction Survey[4], 58% of men and 47% of women in Singapore believe that the man’s ability to control when to ejaculate is a key factor in achieving mutual sexual satisfaction, an important element that provides the desired intimacy often exhibited in successful relationships. Absent that control, 26% of men and 20% of women in Singapore with self-reported experience of PE say that PE could potentially lead to relationship breakdown or divorce.

However, more than half of men with PE, and even more so for their partners, do not talk about or seek information on PE and its treatment options. In addition, 60% of men in Singapore are very/extremely concerned about not being able to satisfy their partners, as compared to 38% of men in the Asia-Pacific region. In fact, 23% of men in Singapore think there is no treatment for PE. As a result, PE is largely undiagnosed in Singapore. Interestingly, the survey revealed that more than 9 in 10 men in Singapore who reported PE experience have not been diagnosed by a physician. [4]

The reality is, premature ejaculation can be treated. There is a range of treatment options for premature ejaculation. Menarini’s dapoxetine is the first and only drug specifically developed for the treatment of PE. Based on robust clinical trials involving over 6,000 men worldwide, Menarini’s dapoxetine is proven to be well-tolerated and to significantly improve all measures of PE, including control over ejaculation and sexual satisfaction for the couple. [5,6]

Reinhard Ehrenberger, Managing Director of Menarini Singapore, commented, “Menarini Singapore is proud to launch the first and only drug for premature ejaculation in Singapore, empowering couples to take control and seek a solution to treat this underserved sexual dysfunction. Men and women affected by premature ejaculation experience low self-confidence, anxiety, feelings of shame and avoidance of sexual intimacy, adversely affecting their relationships. With strong clinical evidence that demonstrates its efficacy and tolerability, we believe that dapoxetine can successfully help couples enjoy the sexual satisfaction that comes with improved control over ejaculation.”

Dr. Colin Teo, Consultant Urologist and President, Society for Men’s Health Singapore, said, “In my clinical practice, I have seen how premature ejaculation negatively impacts sexual satisfaction and overall quality of life for couples. Couples need to know that there is treatment available for premature ejaculation. They should be open to talking about the issue with each other and with their doctor. Finally, we have an effective, on-demand treatment that can help improve control over ejaculation and sexual satisfaction for the couple, which in turn will strengthen the relationships they have with their partners.”

Menarini’s dapoxetine is indicated for men with clinical diagnosis of PE aged between 18 to 64 years. It is available in Singapore by prescription in 30 mg tablets, the recommended starting dosage, and will be available in 60 mg tablets later this year. Menarini’s dapoxetine may be taken on-demand just one to three hours prior to sexual activity with a full glass of water. For more information on premature ejaculation, please visitwww.ministryofmanhood.com.sg or call the hotline at 6684-8000.

About premature ejaculation (PE)

PE is the most common sexual dysfunction in men and is characterised by difficulty in controlling ejaculation. PE is recognized as a medical condition by global health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM), European Association of Urology (EAU), and the American Psychological Association (APA). [1,8-10] Effective treatment of PE can not only improve control over ejaculation but also improve sexual satisfaction and overall quality of life for both men and their partners.[1,6]

For further information on PE, visit www.ministryofmanhood.com.sg or call the hotline at 66848000.

About dapoxetine

Menarini’s dapoxetine is the first and only drug specifically developed and now approved in over 50 countries for the treatment of premature ejaculation. Based on robust clinical trials involving over 6,000 men worldwide, it is proven to be well-tolerated and to significantly improve all measures of premature ejaculation, including control over ejaculation and sexual satisfaction for the couple.[5,6]

Menarini’s dapoxetine may be prescribed for the treatment of premature ejaculation for men aged between 18 and 64 years.[11]An “on-demand” oral medication (taken only when needed), dapoxetine rapidly increases the synaptic levels of serotonin in the central nervous system, thereby significantly improving symptoms of PE.[12,13]

About the 2013 Asia-Pacific Sexual Behaviours and Satisfaction Survey[4]

The 2013 Asia-Pacific Sexual Behaviours and Satisfaction Survey polled more than 3,500 men and women aged 18-45 years old from nine markets in Asia-Pacific, including Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, to understand the impact premature ejaculation has on couples’ relationships and sexual satisfaction. The survey, conducted by Kantar Health and sponsored by Menarini Asia-Pacific, was conducted between 18 March 2013 and 2 April 2013, and incorporated the five-question Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT), a validated instrument for diagnosing premature ejaculation. Menarini is committed to raising awareness of premature ejaculation (PE), which is underdetected, underdiagnosed and undertreated.[2] To see the Singapore-specific survey results, please visitwww.ministryofmanhood.com.sg.
