SANTIAGO, Chile /PRNewswire/ —
New platform to deliver 600MW of wind and solar projects into construction and operation by 2016
Global wind and solar developer Mainstream Renewable Power today announced a joint venture with the global pan-emerging market investor Actis to deliver 600 megawatts of wind and solar projects into construction and operation in Chile by early 2016. The joint venture company which is 40% owned by Mainstream and 60% by Actis will purchase the projects, which have been fully developed by Mainstream, at Financial Close. Mainstream will continue to manage the construction and support the operation of the projects on behalf of the joint venture.

Since 2008 Mainstream has taken a leadership position in the Chilean renewable energy market where its local team has been developing an advanced portfolio of more than 3,500 megawatts of wind and solar projects.Globally, Mainstream has a development pipeline of over 17,000 megawatts across four continents and is currently constructing wind and solar projects in Ireland, South Africa, Chile and Canada.
This is Mainstream’s second collaboration with Actis. In 2012 Mainstream successfully bid and won three government tenders in South Africa for 238MW of wind and solar projects which are currently in construction. Actis invested $100 million in the projects which are due to be operational in early 2014.
Commenting on the deal, Mainstream Renewable Power’s Chief Executive Eddie O’Connor said: “Mainstream is delighted to be working with such a highly experienced and forward-thinking partner as Actis to deliver this first phase of our operational assets in Chile. This is the ideal platform for Mainstream to accelerate the delivery of our 3,500 megawatts of projects in Chile at a significant scale.”
“Mainstream has a global pipeline of over 17,000 megawatts of wind and solar projects across four continents and this is something we may look to replicate across our other markets.”
He continued: “This platform is about meeting the needs of offtakers, particularly large-scale industrial consumers in Chile who need top quality projects and competitive electricity prices. The market is looking for independent power producers with strong financial backing, expert local knowledge and experience in delivering operational assets. This Joint Venture very much ticks all of these boxes.”
Paul Fletcher Senior Partner at Actis said, “Actis is very happy to be making our first major investment in Chile. We have an excellent track record in providing conventional and renewable energy in the emerging markets. Our commitment to Latin America, where we have successful investments in educational, financial services and retail, reflects our confidence and ambition for these dynamic markets. Mainstream is a trusted and respected partner and we are pleased to be working together again.”

No More Pop-Ups Crop Up as Hotel Price Comparison Search Finally Goes Live

SINGAPORE, June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Applying radical common sense,TripAdvisor®, the world’s largest travel site*, today announced the launch of its all-in-one Hotel Price Comparison search, now live worldwide. TripAdvisor *is* the first to match real-time pricing and availability with the more than 100 million original reviews and opinions of TripAdvisor travellers.

“Our bad,” said Steve Kaufer, co-founder and CEO of TripAdvisor. “We want to help travellers plan and have the perfect trip, not drive them crazy with endless annoying pop-ups before they’ve booked it. We are excited to offer real-time hotel prices and availability in one convenient display.”

“I recently searched a popular New York hotel, hit the ‘See All’ pricing link and — expecting to wade through countless pop-ups — I went to grab a cup of coffee,” said one TripAdvisor member. “When I came back to sift through the results, there was only one display…one!  Can you believe it? A unified price comparison search is a dream come true!”

TripAdvisor now displays an easy-to-read layout of pricing and availability from multiple booking partners in one view. This means that travellers can apply a simple method for choosing top-rated hotels at a great price: research a hotel for their chosen dates of stay, compare options at a glance to select their favorite, and click through to the booking partners’ sites to complete the transaction.

“This was the most logical step in the evolution of TripAdvisor,” said Kaufer. “Pairing our best-in-class user-generated content with pricing in one display gives a better experience to our travelers and even more qualified leads to our hotel booking partners.”

The new price comparison search display is now live for hotels in every country in the world and is available on all TripAdvisor sites and all mobile platforms.

Asian Duty Free & Travel Retail Industry Still Booming

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ —
“Preliminary forecast global sales for 2012 are just over $49 billion – close to the magic $50 billion which was discussed not all that many years ago as a possible figure to reach, but still a little away from the projected $64 billion by 2015. The 2012 result is a 7.5% increase on 2011 and, yet again, it’s the Asia Pacific region that is the powerhouse of this growth,” stated Erik Juul-Mortensen, President TFWA.
To view the Multimedia News Release, please click:
Mr Juul-Mortensen was speaking at the opening plenary of the TFWA Asia Pacific Conference & Exhibition on Monday 13th May in the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Center in Singapore.
Prestigious luxury brands abound at TFWA Asia Pacific Conference & Exhibition
The exhibitors included the owners of many of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world and, with their smaller neighbours, they shared one ambition: to expand their business in mainland China, India, Taiwan, Vietnam and the other fast developing countries in Asia in addition to the established duty free & travel retail markets such as Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Australia.
Buyers, landlords, distributors and agents from airports, airlines, marine and downtown duty free & travel retail outlets across Asia and the Pacific region crowded through the doors and by 5pm on Thursday 16th May a total of 2,452 people had visited the exhibition, up 13% on 2012.
A busy year ahead
The next major event in the global duty free & travel retail industry calendar is the 29th TFWA World Exhibition in the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, from 20th to 25th October. With thousands of innovative products on display from the world’s most prestigious and forward-thinking brand companies, this is bound to be a red-letter event for every stakeholder in this thriving industry.
TFWA, under the motto ‘by the trade, for the trade,’ has always supported efforts to develop and protect the duty free & travel retail industry. In this regard it is now instigating a Travel Retail World Council whose mission is to represent, protect and help build the global duty free and travel retail industry through support to all regional industry associations.
