Compact connector footprint enables fourfold increase in interconnects to provide reduced equipment size and weight in broadcast and other applications

SINGAPORE, May 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, is stocking the High Density BNC (HD-BNC™) family of connectors from Amphenol, a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of interconnect products.

With a footprint 51% smaller than traditional BNC connectors, and 40% smaller than DIN 1.0/2.3, the HD-BNC allows four times as many interconnects as the BNC, making it possible to reduce equipment size and weight in applications requiring high definition resolution, such as in broadcast and digital video (HDTV), as well as in network routing and switching.

This high-density connector delivers true 75 ohm impedance over a frequency range of 0-6GHz to provide higher performance over longer distances. Engineered to enhance electrical and mechanical performance, the HD-BNC features the trusted push and turn interface of a traditional BNC, providing tactile feedback and a positive lock for quick and guaranteed mating. The range meets and exceeds SMPTE 292M and 424M standards and offers full compatibility with traditional broadcast cables such as Belden, Times Fiber, Draka, and Image 360 and utilises the same crimping tools and cable preparations as standard BNC connectors.

The Amphenol HD-BNC family of connectors is available to order now from RS Components for same-day despatch at

“As a city with a rich association with rugby, DHL is excited to welcome the Lions to Hong Kong as part of the DHL Australia 2013 Lions Tour. As a sport played all over the world that celebrates speed and dedication, rugby is the perfect fit for us as a global brand. We’re proud to continue our long association with the sport and look forward to delivering this exciting event to Hong Kong,” said Ken Lee, Head of Commercial, Asia Pacific and Managing Director, Hong Kong and Macau.

DHL will also offer a group of 90 local students, aged five to six from three Po Leung Kuk Kindergartens, a chance to meet some renowned rugby heroes ahead of the match. Three DHL Rugby Ambassadors, Hong Kong-born Rowan Varty of the Barbarians and Lions legends Mike Teague and Peter Winterbottom, will play games of rugby with the children from low-income families to help them learn more about the game on 31 May at the Hong Kong Football Club. The event supports the company’s GoTeach program by encouraging educational opportunities for young people. It follows DHL’s longstanding promotion of youth rugby in the territory, including past support for local mini rugby events.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to partner with DHL as the major naming rights partner of the DHL Australia 2013 Lions Tour. We have heard a lot about the passion and energy Hong Kong has for rugby and we look forward to meeting local students to help share some of our tips and experiences. This iconic event is always a major occasion for fans and this tour promises to be no different,” said rugby legend Mike Teague, DHL Ambassador for the Hong Kong match.

The tour begins on Saturday, 1June when the Lions face the Barbarians at Hong Kong Stadium in their second-ever match-up. The Lions play 9 matches in total, with the remainder taking place across Australia, including three test matches against the Qantas Wallabies.

NSFOCUS Named a Sample Vendor in Gartner’s IT Market Clock for Infrastructure Protection 2013 Report

leave a comment »

BEIJING/PRNewswire/ — NSFOCUS, a global provider of solutions and services for distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) mitigation, today announced it has been named by Gartner, the world’s leading IT research and advisory firm, as the only Asia-Pacific sample vendor in its IT Market Clock for Infrastructure Protection, 2013[1] report published on April 19, 2013. NSFOCUS provides enterprise-level, carrier-grade solutions and services for DDoS mitigation, Web security and enterprise-level network security.
The report found that “damage from DDoS attacks continued to grow in 2012, with a mixture of low-scale and large-scale attacks. New forms of resource starvation attacks were added to the existing mix of volumetric attacks, requiring DDoS protection products and services to adapt. Gartner saw strong growth in demand for DDoS protection in 2012.”
Traditional anti-DDoS defense solutions are inadequate in fending off the more devastating and sophisticated DDoS threats; instead, a cloud-based, multi-layered anti-DDoS solution will be needed. This can consist of a mid-range Anti-DDoS System (ADS), deployed at an enterprise to fend off small or application-layered attacks, or a high-end ADS model, deployed at a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) as a cleaning center to handle attacks of higher performance and capacity. In addition, DDoS mitigation experts can provide around-the-clock support through a cloud-based network security operation center for quick response and support. The best anti-DDoS solution is designed to not only provide real-time, professional DDoS mitigation services, but also keep critical businesses running, maintaining customer satisfaction and generating additional new revenue streams for hosting providers who can offer clients added protection.
Founded in 2000, NSFOCUS Information Technology Co., Ltd provides enterprise-level, carrier-grade solutions and services for distributed denial of service (DDoS) mitigation, Web security and enterprise-level network security. With more than 10 years of experience in DDoS research and development and mitigation, NSFOCUS has helped customers around the world maintain high levels of Internet security, website uptime and business operations to ensure that their online systems remain available.
