Full-Scale Expansion of Global Mobile Payment Solution PayPal Here Enables Growth of Small and Medium Sized Businesses in Japan

TOKYO, March 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Nihon PayPal KK (President and CEO: Hiroaki Kitano), SoftBank Mobile (President and CEO: Masayoshi Son) and PayPal Pte Ltd (Vice President, Asia Pacific: Rohan Mahadevan) announce a full-scale expansion of PayPal Here( ), a global mobile payment solution from PayPal Pte Ltd, to small businesses and entrepreneurs through over 2,700 SoftBank retail shops and business sales networks across Japan.

(Photo: )

PayPal Here enables mobile payment services anytime and anywhere for small businesses and entrepreneurs using a fully-encrypted thumb size card reader and free smartphone application. With PayPal Here, merchants no longer have to go through an often very challenging and time-consuming process to get a merchant account to collect credit card payments. With no setup or monthly fees, they can focus on maximizing their sales opportunity by offering credit card and PayPal payments to their customers. PayPal Here encrypts card information as it swipes and all transactions are backed by PayPal’s world-class security and fraud prevention capabilities as well as live customer support.

This full-scale expansion also includes several new related services and products for merchants to enhance the use of PayPal Here in their business operations:

— The free Japanese version of the PayPal Here merchant app for Android is now available. Small businesses and entrepreneurs can now accept payments through PayPal Here on both iOS and Android (Note) devices.

— Compact mobile printers via Bluetooth(R) will also be available to meet a merchant’s need to print out credit card transaction receipts at places such as at an outdoor event.

— By partnering with SoftBank Technology (CEO: Shinichi Ata), Mobile Perfect SP, an integrated transaction information report, will be provided to merchants with multiple PayPal Here devices for a more convenient service to track and support sales activities.

Nihon PayPal KK will continue to promote the cashless shopping trend for Japanese consumers, while supporting merchants to accept credit card and PayPal payments through PayPal Here. In fact, many small businesses and entrepreneurs, such as retail shops, F&B outlets and service providers, throughout Japan are already using PayPal Here to increase their sales by offering additional payment options to their customers.

Below are several comments from merchants using PayPal Here today:

“After we started using PayPal Here at exhibitions and show rooms, 90% of our sales came through credit cards via PayPal Here. When customers find out that they can use their credit cards, they feel more comfortable when choosing and purchasing products. As a result, both unit sales price and total sales volume have increased,” commented Mr. Hiroyuki Miyazaki, CEO of Aquarylis, an all hand crafts jewelry shop that sells high quality genuine stone jewelry at exhibitions in Tokyo and Osaka, as well as through face-to-face sales opportunities.

“After introducing PayPal Here, it is a more convenient way to pay for customers and we are able to grow our sales by offering more payment choice to our customers. Although the transaction fee cost is 5% of sales, the amount of lost business by not offering credit card acceptance is higher”, commented Mr. Daisuke Tanaka, CEO of Uniginal Ltd., managing company of Milton Coffee Roastery which is a cafe located in south of Yamaguchi prefecture.

“PayPal Here has no monthly charge and an easy transaction process, so we are happy to recommend our customers to pay via credit card. Also, our sales team comments that PayPal Here enables credit card payments at sales visits to yoyo competitions and exhibition events. Moreover, sales from our online and physical stores can be completed through PayPal, an easier way to manage overall sales transactions for our business,” commented Mr. Masahiro Noma, CEO of YoYo Company which has a yoyo shop called Rewind located in Aichi prefecture selling a range of popular yoyos to professional models for world competitions.

“Originally, we have considered other credit card payment options, but they had high initial costs, time consuming registration process, and long cash collection period of once or twice a month. So we chose to use PayPal Here instead, and 3 weeks after we started we saw that payments via PayPal Here have already grown 10%. More importantly, customers would purchase additional products because they can pay by credit cards,” said Thomas Bertrand, owner of Bento&Co which provides stylishly designed Japanese bento boxes and kitchen utilities in a physical shop in Kyoto.

Garuda Indonesia’s Business Takes Flight, Enabled by CyberSource Payment and Fraud Management Platform

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — CyberSource, a Visa company (NYSE: V), and one of the world’s largest providers of eCommerce payment management services, today announced that Indonesia’s national airline, Garuda Indonesia, will adopt the full suite of CyberSource’s global payment gateway and fraud management services.
Garuda Indonesia’s focus on growth and quality service has received industry recognition in recent years with a string of awards, including the “Best Regional Airline in Asia” and “World’s Best Regional Airline” awards received in 2012 from the 2012 World Airline Awards(Note 1). As part of its drive to improve customer satisfaction, the airline needed to make sure they could continue to provide their customers with a convenient and secure payment experience for all transactions. This meant that robust internal risk management processes had to be put in place, and supported by a scalable and secure payment gateway with a fraud management solution.
“To protect our revenue as we expand our operations, we need flexible and innovative solutions that cater to the payment and risk challenges airlines face. This is crucial for our ‘Quantum Leap 2011-2015’ plan(Note 2) to become the leading airline in the region,”said Mr Joseph Saul, VP, E-Commerce, PT Garuda Indonesia. “Our partnership with CyberSource provides the solutions expertise and payment management platform necessary to rapidly expand our business in the region.”
Garuda Indonesia is the first airline in Asia Pacific to adopt the full suite of capabilities available via the CyberSource payment management platform, which consists of global payment services to support online and multi-channel payments, including the ability to securely process multiple payment types worldwide. Garuda will also be able to accurately screen for fraud using CyberSource Decision Manager and Performance Monitoring with Guarantees.
With Payment Services, Garuda Indonesia will be able to offer a highly reliable, scalable and secure online payments infrastructure. By leverage CyberSource tokenization services, Garuda will operate with payment tokens instead of raw payment data, thereby allowing them to provide a secure payment process while removing the need for them to handle sensitive payment data.
Another key service in managing payments in an expanding cross-border business is having an effective fraud management tool. CyberSource Decision Manager, provides the ability to automatically screen more orders, based on insights from over 60 billion transactions processed annually by Visa and CyberSource, thereby streamlining Garuda’s fraud operations. Using results from over 260 global validation tests, Garuda will then be able to assess the risk of the inbound order in real time of all of less than two seconds.
In addition, CyberSource fraud analysts will conduct ongoing monitoring and tuning of system and process performance to provide Garuda with greater visibility over the fraud management process.
“CyberSource believes airline payment management can be an enabler of airline differentiation and scalability. We are looking forward to working closely with Garuda Indonesia in their goal to become a five star airline by 2015(Note 3),” said J Michael Bradley, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, CyberSource.
Almost 50 major global airlines utilize CyberSource solutions to enable efficient payment and fraud management in every sales channel(Note 4). Its customers include major legacy carriers, regional airlines and low cost carriers from around the world.

Recommended by Korean’s First lady and the Korea Tourism Board, “BIBAP” is a non-verbal performance depicting one of Korea’s famous national dishes, bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables and beef). The sound of making bibimbap is mimicked by beat-boxing and a cappella, while the motions are demonstrated through b-boying, acrobatics and martial arts. When combined, the dynamic music and choreography create the perfect harmony, just as the different ingredients mix together to create a tasty bibimbap. Performers present a refreshing experience by improvising with a few select members of the audience during the show. One lucky audience member may even get to sample bibimbap!

LONDON, March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ —

Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Gold Route launches, blended exclusively for travellers and inspired by rich adventures traversing the Gold Route through Latin America
Today Johnnie Walker, the world’s leading Scotch Whisky producer, unveiled the latest exciting blend from its Trade Routes Series: Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Gold Route. The Gold Route takes inspiration from the journeys made by the Walker family and their agents – from Central America through the Andean mountains, passing the Inca pyramids and along the coast of the Pacific Ocean – where they witnessed magnificent scenery and diverse cultures whilst in pursuit of new businesses and rich experiences.

The Gold Route evokes a sense of the exotic fruit flavours and beautiful rich golden colours of this region.

The blend is available exclusively for travellers in duty free stores, and like the other blends which make up the Collection, it pays tribute to the travelling heritage of the John Walker & Sons agents.

Crafted from the finest aged whiskies hand-picked for a luxurious smoothness and vibrant flavour, in the glass the Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Gold Route evokes a sense of the exotic fruit flavours and beautiful rich golden colours of this region.

“We took inspiration from the richness of flavours, sights and experiences of Latin America to help us select the most precious liquids for this blend,” commented Master Blender Jim Beveridge. He added: “On the nose, there is an immediate wave of an exotic mix of bananas, mango and pitaya, complemented by a hint of vanilla sweetness. On first sip, the palate embarks on a journey that is as distinct and magnificent as the vistas of Latin America: tantalising flavours, a perfect blend of fruitiness with hints of pineapples, guava, passion fruit and raisins, all balanced perfectly by deep charred peaty notes, in keeping with the signature smoky Johnnie Walker flavour. Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, the finish is smooth and luxurious, a fitting addition to the Johnnie Walker lineage.”

Steve White, Marketing Director of Diageo Global Travel and Middle East, said: “At the very heart of Johnnie Walker lies a bold spirit of adventure which has given rise to a great number of epic journeys. Our blends have been inspired by tales of rich travel adventures, in this case, along the Gold Route of the Americas and the Caribbean.

Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Gold Route is a premium blend made exclusively for the intrepid travellers of today. It is a whisky to remind them of their own travels and inspire them to plan new journeys.”

Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Gold Route is the second blend in the collection of three whiskies, collectively known as the Trade Routes Series, inspired by the richness that could be found along the great trade routes. The first release, Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Spice Road, which launched in November to critical acclaim and great retail success, is an evocative expression of the vibrancy, aromas and spices that the JOHNNIE WALKER agents would have discovered in the thriving markets around Asia. The third release in the Trade Routes Series – Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Royal Route will be available exclusively in duty free stores later in 2013.

With a recommended retail price of $95, Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Gold Route is available to travellers in duty free stores globally now.

More than 100 A&I Databases Now Indexed in the Serials Solutions Summon Service

leave a comment »

– Unique match and merge technology leverages subject terms in A&I databases from ProQuest and others to optimize discovery of a library’s collection
SEATTLE /PRNewswire/ — Serials Solutions®, a ProQuest® business, announced today the Summon® discovery service now includes content from more than 100 abstract and indexing (A&I) databases – including nearly 90 ProQuest databases. Unlike other discovery services, A&I content in the Summon service is leveraged through a unique match and merge technology that combines different types of data and information from multiple sources creating a single record optimized for discovery. For mutual subscribers, this unique approach exposes A&I resources to more users, directs researchers to full text when available, and maximizes the value and usage of A&I content for libraries.
(Logo: )
Match and merge technology combines, normalizes and corrects from multiple sources full text and metadata, such as abstracts, subject terms, thesauri and controlled vocabularies, citation counts and enrichment data. Bringing together this information enhances relevancy and increases discoverability of content, whether a user searches with natural language queries or database-specific controlled vocabularies.
The Summon unified index has grown from 200 million items at launch to more than one billion items.
“We are helping libraries maximize their investment in A&I resources and facilitating information literacy by helping users discover these specialized databases,” said John Law, vice president, discovery services, Serials Solutions. “Leveraging rich A&I subject terms through our match and merge technology, combined with our pioneering database recommender feature, exposes more users to A&I databases and improves the discovery of items – even when full text is available.”
The Summon service supports discovery of A&I databases regardless of where the library purchased the database or which provider hosts it. This approach ensures that relevant results are not biased toward any particular provider or vendor. A&I content indexed in the Summon service spans diverse disciplines and includes databases such as the MLA International Bibliography, Thomson Reuters Web of Science(SM), HAPI (Hispanic American Periodicals Index), SveMed+ and L’Annee philologique. Recently indexed in the Summon service, including more than 20 formal thesauri curated by expert editors, and more than 100 different controlled vocabularies, the internationally renowned A&I titles from ProQuest include:
Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA)
ARTbibliographies Modern (ABM)
British Humanities Index (BHI)
British Nursing Index (BNI)
Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI)
ESPM: Environmental Sciences & Pollution Management
International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS)
International Index to Music Periodicals
International Index to Performing Arts
Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA)
Sociological Abstracts
Technology Research Database
Water Resources Abstracts
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts
“The addition of these databases delivers value to libraries unlike any other discovery service and encourages use of A&I databases for deeper, discipline-specific searching,” said Law. “With our match and merge technology preserving metadata from all sources, Summon records often have more subject terms associated with them, and sometimes up to five times as many as other discovery services, ensuring researchers are searching the richest possible representation of metadata.”
Used by more than 500 libraries in more than 40 countries, the Summon service is the first and only discovery service based on a unified index of content, leveraging its unique “match and merge” technology to combine rich metadata and full text from multiple sources to ultimately make items more discoverable. The Summon unified index has grown from 200 million items at launch to more than one billion items – with the vast majority of article and book content full-text searchable. Proven to increase usage of library resources, the Summon service consistently meets user expectations by delivering innovative new features for enhancing discovery.

Ramco Systems Launches Aviation on Cloud for Heli-operators

leave a comment »

LAS VEGAS, March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ —

Unveils cloud MRO software with uber-cool interface

Set to transform the small heli-operator segment with its Aviation on Cloud

Ramco Systems, the global Aviation Software provider on Cloud, Mobile and Tablets today announced the launch of its ultra-cool, mobile-enabled software-Ramco Aviation on Cloud-for the Heli-operator segment at the HELI-EXPO 2013, the most coveted global show for Heli-operators. Ramco has been a leading provider of MRO and M&E software for the heli-operator segment, and with the launch of a cloud version, will be able to offer customers delivery options that best fit their needs.

The newly launched cloud offering will address the unique needs of small operators/ MROs in the Heli-operator segment which, hitherto, had to either run on disparate point solutions or manually on paper/excel. The only other option available was an on-premise Aviation MRO software that was high on cost, required maintenance, frequent upgrades and was built to address large and complex environments.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. P. R. Venketrama Raja, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Ramco Systems, said “Helicopter companies and MROs addressing the Heli-operator segment, whether large or small, constantly face operational hurdles such as increased aircraft downtimes, stringent regulatory compliance, disparate IT systems and unmanageable supply chain among others. Having addressed the industry with our best-of-breed aviation MRO software, we understand that the needs of a small operator are very different and we have tailor made a solution that will address their needs most effectively, at a fraction of the cost of traditional software.”

Mr. Virender Aggarwal, CEO, Ramco Systems, added “Heli-operator is a key focus segment for us and we have been growing rapidly by adding some of the leading names in the industry. 80% of the market today consists of small operators. Most of them operate from excel sheets and do not have an integrated M&E/MRO software, as they cannot afford the traditional system. With Ramco Aviation on Cloud, we will be addressing this underserved market segment, and we look forward to expanding our leadership position, globally.”

Built ground-up for the Aviation sector, Ramco Aviation Suite caters to airlines, rotor wing operators as well as third party MROs. The solution helps Aviation businesses to bring in best practices into all engineering and maintenance operations, and reduce overhead costs. Ramco has been adding features like Mobility and Gen-Y Interface that will redefine the way Aviation users use technology to maintain their fleet.

About Ramco Aviation:

Artprice: The Art Market 2012 – a Dialogue Between East and West

leave a comment »

PARIS /PRNewswire / —
For this study of the global art market in 2012, Artprice has formed an alliance with Artron, the leading information service on the art market in China within the Greater Asia region, in order to provide the best possible overview of the art auction market.
Chinese collectors are not inclined to buy a Western piece of art that they find is too far removed from their cultural
For years, Artprice has taken the utmost interest in collecting the data of the Asian art market and more especially the Chinese market. However, Artprice was missing a key element: the cultural and sociologic analysis that key actor Art Market Monitor of Artron (AMMA) only could provide, according to Thierry Ehrmann, the founder and CEO of Artprice. With the art market now bipolar, entering into a dialogue between East and West has enabled us to come to an unprecedented cross-cultural analysis of the market.
In fact, we are analysing a bipolar art market that has grown in China and the West and at different speeds in different cultural terrains and according to different standards. In comparison with 2011 figures, released by Artprice in its annual report, those of 2012, co-released by Artprice and Artron, show an increase by 6.1%.
There has of course been a globalisation effect due to the dematerialisation of the art market through the Internet and the nomadic nature of collectors. And of course it is clear that bridges have been built between East and West and that the creation, supply and demand of art sometimes overlap at certain points. But we cannot say that art has become totally homogeneous. On the contrary, the art market exacerbates cultural differences by reflecting the gamut of artistic choices. Chinese collectors are not inclined to buy a Western piece of art that they find is too far removed from their cultural parameters. Instead, they prefer traditional styles, ancient calligraphy and, more recently, contemporary “experimental” ink art. Likewise, Western collectors mainly buy the works of artists who speak their language, including some Asian artists who have assimilated Western art history.
So the idea of a globalised art market should be taken with a pinch of salt. In any case, it is a little premature for Western and Chinese readers to be finding their bearings in an analysis of the global art market that is bent on combining information from East and West at all costs. In order to provide a clear and transparent analysis for our entire global readership, this year our report is made up of an introduction that covers the results of art sales around the world in 2012, followed by two distinct chapters. The first of these concentrates exclusively on the art market in the West and Artprice data, while the second focuses on art in China and Artron data. This fertile relationship between Artprice and Artron has led us both to examine our areas of overlap and divergence and to look at the way a new geopolitics is evolving in the art market of the 21st century.

For the past ten year, Artprice has published its exclusive annual art market report – available in 6 languages -, which is distributed to over 6,300 media organisations and international institutions every year. Based on 6.3 million auction results from 4,500 auction houses around the world, the report contains macro- and micro-economic analyses providing the keys to understanding the annual evolution of the global auction market. It discusses the major trends in the market, analysed throughout the year on the ArtMarketInsight page of our website, by the Artprice press agency and jointly by the Artprice and the Art Market Monitor of Artron Econometrics Department. To complement this objective appreciation of the art market based on a year of global auction results, Artprice and the Art Market Monitor of Artron also offer numerous original rankings such as the Top 500 artists by auction revenue and the Top 100 auction results of the year.
