Clinical Results for the Supera(R) Peripheral Stent System Highlighted At Leading Global Peripheral Intervention Course

leave a comment »

Clinical studies covering over 1,000 patients treated with Supera stent demonstrate 1-year patency results ranging from 84 to 88%; Data was presented at the 2013 Leipzig Interventional Course (LINC)

WEBSTER, Texas and LEIPZIG, Germany, Jan. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — At the Leipzig Interventional Course (LINC) in Leipzig, Germany, physicians from the United States and Europe presented data on their clinical experience with the IDEV Technologies Supera® stent. LINC is a meeting forum of global interdisciplinary physicians focusing on endovascular peripheral interventional treatments.

Results on over 1,000 treated patients were compiled and presented, including findings from these four new studies: Supera Interwoven Nitinol Stent Outcomes in Above-Knee interventions (SAKE) study from the Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Brown Hills, NJ; Antwerp Supera in Popliteal & Superficial Femoral Artery (AURORAA) study from Vascular Clinik ZNA, Antwerp, Belgium; Real World experience with the Supera stent in the SFA and Popliteal arteries from Tucson Medical Center, Tucson, AZ; and IDEV Supera Stenting to Preserve Dialysis Access from Lawrenceville, GA.

“All data presented at LINC represents a broad range of patients affected by peripheral vascular disease in the popliteal and SFA arteries, and dialysis fistulas,” noted Dennis Donohoe, MD, Chief Medical Officer for IDEV Technologies, Inc., manufacturer of the Supera stent. “These are real-world patients with advanced complex disease, the type that confronts physicians on a daily basis.”

The primary clinical outcome of two of these 4 new studies was primary patency demonstrating independent, consistent and impressive 1-year primary patency results of 86% (AURORAA) and 88% (Real World, Tucson) with the third study SAKE, producing a 92% Freedom from Target Lesion Revascularization (TLR). These individual study results are consistent with the results reported last October at VIVA on IDEV’s SUPERB IDE trial of 264 patients (86% patency at one year by duplex ultrasound, the highest reported patency in an SFA IDE trial) and the Supera 500, a 495 patient study presented by Professor Dierk Scheinert, MD (84% patency rate at 1 year with duplex ultrasound). In addition, the Supera stent was implanted in a number of live cases during LINC.

“These new findings provide additional evidence to suggest the vascular mimetic properties of the Supera stent provide an excellent therapeutic option for physicians treating peripheral vascular disease,” said Christopher Owens, president and CEO of IDEV. “In addition, we are encouraged to see our platform technology being utilized in new clinical applications showing promising results for dialysis access patients.”

Details on the specific LINC sessions featuring information on the Supera Peripheral Stent System can be found on the company website. The company is also participating in the technical exhibit portion at LINC from January 23-26, 2013.

About the SUPERA Stent
The Supera stent is engineered with proprietary interwoven wire technology that mimics vascular anatomy. It is currently indicated in the United States for the palliative treatment of biliary strictures produced by malignant neoplasms and in multiple other countries for the treatment of biliary strictures produced by malignant neoplasms and for peripheral vascular use following failed percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA).

The SUPERB Trial (Comparison of the SUperaPERipheral System to a Performance Goal Derived from Balloon Angioplasty Clinical Trials in the Superficial Femoral Artery) is an IDE trial to evaluate Supera in treating patients with obstructive superficial femoral artery (SFA) and proximal popliteal artery disease.

Cha-Ching Launches Its First Mobile Game App “Cha-Ching Band Manager”

leave a comment »

Free game challenges children’s money and music know-how to become Asia’s next digital rock star
HONG KONG,PRNewswire/ — Prudential Corporation Asia has released its newest mobile game, Cha-Ching Band Manager, for iOS and Android in English to help children build money-smart skills. Cha-Ching is a key financial literacy programme of the Prudence Foundation, the charitable platform of Prudential Corporation Asia. Riding on the popularity of the Cha-Ching Saver game series, Cha-Ching Band Manager blends elements from the popular music-based and simulation games that children love to create a fun and interactive game that enables them to make smart money decisions through play.
Jam to Cha-Ching’s Greatest Hits and Player-created Singles
The Cha-Ching band needs the help of musically-savvy children to take them to new heights of stardom. Players will get to rock out to the band’s popular hits by tapping in time with the music and the coloured balls that travel down the screen. When the band plays well, players will earn more to work their way up the showbiz ladder.
But, players will not just be grooving to Cha-Ching’s beats. Inside the band’s studio, they will get access to a range of instruments and soundtracks to allow them to create their very own songs. They will then get to perform their original tracks for fans in different venues across town, share their creations with other players around the region and have the chance to perform other band’s songs to see how they compare.
Money-smart Skills to Take Cha-Ching to Global Mega-Stardom
Cha-Ching’s success is not only determined by their music. The game puts control of their destiny in the band manager’s hands. Has the band played enough gigs to earn sufficient fame points to unlock the bigger and better venues in town? Should Cha-Ching’s game coins be spent on instrument upgrades and song samples from the music store or power-ups in the training facility? Perhaps the money should be left in the bank for an extra day to earn interest? Money-smart decisions and forward planning have never been more critical to Cha-Ching’s progress!
Building Financial Know-how Among Children in Asia
Cha-Ching Band Manager is Prudential’s latest effort in its commitment to financial literacy in Asia. The programme, a key initiative of the Prudence Foundation, was launched in an effort to address one of the key takeaways from the global financial crisis: consumers’ need for stronger financial literacy. And with the rising affluence in Asia, healthy financial habits are even more crucial for families in the region.
“We are delighted to have the chance to offer kids, parents and educators in Asia another tool to help build sound money skills from an early age. Cha-Ching Band Manager, along with our other digital games, leverages the concept that children learn through play and gives them a fun and engaging way to practise making money-smart decisions,” said Sean Rach, Regional Director of Brand & Corporate Affairs at Prudential Corporation Asia.
Cha-Ching is currently aired in seven Asian countries on Cartoon Network, the number one children’s channel in Asia. The programme targets children aged seven to 12 using a unique edutainment approach and consists of a series of animated musical episodes and is supported by an interactive website and digital applications. To-date, thousands of children have challenged their money-smart skills while playing the Cha-Ching games, including Cha-Ching Saver, Cha-Ching Saver World Tour and Entrepreneur. They have also benefitted from Cha-Ching’s first mobile application, Pocket Money Manager, which provides a handy tool to help children track their weekly money cycle.

Presenting the First Ever Hands on Skills Assessment Examination for Endoscopy Certification

leave a comment »

Traditionally, the only way to assess technical skills in the medical field has been through unstructured, subjective observation. Therefore, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Fundamentals of Endoscopic SurgeryTM (FESTM) program has taken a giant step toward more reliable and valid measures of surgical performance to improve patient safety. As part of this initiative, SAGES together with Simbionix™, a leader in surgical simulation, have developed the first ever virtual reality system that can objectively assess surgical endoscopic skills.
(Logo: )
The FES program is a comprehensive educational module and assessment tool designed to teach and test the fundamental knowledge, clinical judgment and technical skills required in the performance of basic gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopic surgery (endoscopy). FES intends to set a validated benchmark of understanding and necessary skills in basic endoscopy in order to improve the quality of patient care.
The Simbionix GI Mentor™ is a top-of-the-line endoscopic medical simulator for the training of gastrointestinal upper and lower endoscopic procedures. The simulator provides multiple training opportunities with true-to-life patient cases offering realistic scenarios of clinical situations using customized actual tools. The GI Mentor provides a comprehensive environment for practicing clinical procedures in a safe and realistic manner.
The FES test measures cognitive knowledge and judgment, and uses the GI Mentor virtual reality platform to evaluate fundamental technical skills. The educational module consists of a web-based multimedia presentation of didactic content. Those who successfully complete both the educational and assessment components will have demonstrated the basic knowledge, judgment and technical skills fundamental to the performance of endoscopic surgery.
After long development and validation of the module using the Simbionix GI Mentor, the SAGES FES exams will be officially up and running in Spring 2013. Medical professionals taking this test will be objectively assessed, with tests sites being restricted to general surgery residency programs in the US and Canada. Among the first test center sites are University Hospitals- Case Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio; The Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas; and McGill University Health Centre, Montreal, Quebec.
To experience the realistic virtual reality hands-on training available on the GI Mentor, visit Simbionix booth #609 at IMSH, January 27-29 in Orlando, FL.
SAGES is a not-for-profit professional membership organization which represents a worldwide community of surgeons that bring minimal access surgery, endoscopy and emerging techniques to patients in every country. Representing over 6,000 surgeons and allied health professionals, their mission is to provide leadership in surgery, particularly gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgery, in order to optimize patient care through education, research and innovation.
