The Night for Charity and Excellence in Thailand — UBM Asia (Thailand) Pledged Itself to Both

HONG KONG /PRNewswire/ — UBM Asia (Thailand) donated THB100,000 (US$3,250) in the Dinner Talk & Charity Night hosted by Exhibition Department of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok on 25 September 2012.

TCEB is a public organisation established by Royal Decree in Thailand. Aimed to provide a platform that encourages knowledge exchange and networking for the exhibition industry gearing toward the commencement of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 while doing good deeds to the Thai society, this special event has attracted over 300 industry stakeholders. A total donation of THB1,635,000 (US$53,250) collected from the industry people will be used to purchase artificial legs for the Prostheses Foundation of the H.R.H. the Princess Mother.
At the event, TCEB also held an award presentation to the winning contestants of “Believe in Thailand; the Next Best Shows” and “Better the Best” campaign, TCEB’s exhibition subsidy initiatives that are designed to help raise the competitiveness of overall domestic trade shows. UBM Asia (Thailand) has won “Increase in Total Overseas Participants” for Food Ingredient Asia 2011 under “the Next Best Shows” and received Appreciation Token for Renewable Energy Asia as one of the four champion exhibitions under the “Better the Best”.

Getac Rugged Handheld Offers Multiple Functions — Just Change the Cap

MELBOURNE, Australia, Oct. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Rugged handheld users can now benefit from a device that offers multiple functions in one — simply by changing the cap.

Getac has launched the PS336 — a fully-rugged handheld that offers RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), long range Bluetooth, 1D laser barcode reader, and 3-in-1 card reader functionality (HF RFID reader, smart card reader, SAM card slots).

Users can easily switch between these functions thanks to Getac’s own Flexiconn™ technology, which allows various caps to be fitted and removed from the device depending on the primary function required. The PS336 also incorporates an open interface, meaning Independent Hardware Vendors can add new modules/caps to expand functionality.

Rowina Lee, Vice President of Getac Technology Corporation, says: “This new device offers maximum flexibility and will go a long way towards reducing the need for multiple devices in the field. Presently, users need to be equipped with a number of tools or devices to perform their tasks; the PS336 offers a new multi-solution.”

The device will be distributed by Synnex Australia, and field users in the utility, industrial, and manufacturing sectors are expected to make the most out of the new technology, which includes embedded RFID on the rear of the device (allowing operators to choose between cap and rear RFID functionality).

“We have designed and built the PS336 to be the most convenient and multi-functional handheld users can buy,” Ms Lee says. “Having multiple functions just a cap-click away makes the new handheld ideal for data capture in any environment. And in addition to Flexiconn, the device offers programmable keys so users can personalise and prioritise the functions most important to them.”

Andrew Yu, Senior Product Manager of Getac, from Synnex Australia, says that as well as being designed with convenience in mind, the PS336 offers advanced computing performance and rugged build.

“The device has a 1GHz processor (the fastest such CPU on any handheld), providing superior graphics performance while operating on low power consumption; the battery can last up to 12 hours with LiveSupport™ Battery Swappable Technology, meaning users can change the battery without shutting down the system.”

The PS336 is also built to a rugged Certification of MIL-STD 810G, and with an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of IP68, the device can be submerged in water for at least 30 minutes and will remain fully functional. It also offers Drop Protection to 6 feet.

Outdoor users will benefit from a Sunlight Readability of 600 nits, including BlanView high resolution (VGA) display. Those using mapping technology can also make the most of Geographic Information System features including GPS, e-compass, altimeter and 3-Axis Accelerometer, and 5-megapixel camera.

Interush Announces Exciting New Partnership for Macau Grand Prix

Commitment to Gender Parity Delivers Concrete Results at the Renault-Nissan Alliance

The Alliance provides an annual update on gender parity during the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society, an international conference that takes place Oct. 10-12 in Deauville, France. The yearly gathering aims to level the playing field for women in industry, academia, politics and society.

Among the 2012 findings at Renault and Nissan:

  • Two out of Renault’s 10-member executive committee are women, giving Renault one of the highest percentages of women at the senior executive management level in the global automotive industry. These executives are Marie-Françoise Damesin, Executive Vice President of Human Resources; and Mouna Sepehri, Executive Vice President of the Office of the CEO.
  • Women make up 15% of Renault’s key global executive positions.
  • Women make up 17% of Renault’s total workforce and 14% of Renault’s manufacturing workforce.
  • In new car sales, women account for 34% of the workforce in France, more than double compared to 2009. Renault aims to have women account for 50% of all new sales jobs.
  • In France, Renault’s entry-level brand Dacia has already accomplished its goal of hiring women for half of all new sales jobs. In 2012, 80% of all new sales recruits were women.
  • Renault has developed ‘Women@Renault,’ an internal professional network with 3,300 members and local communities in 11 countries. The network is part of Renault’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy to strengthen gender diversity across all functions globally.
  • Women account for 7% of senior-level managers at Nissan globally, up compared to 4% in 2009.
  • At Nissan in Japan, women comprise 4% of senior-level managers, up from 3% a year ago.
  • In Japan, women account for 6.7% of manager-level positions and higher, compared to an average of 2.9% for Japanese companies with 5,000 employees and more, according to the Japan Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
