Malaysia Airlines Partners PayPal for Faster and Safer Mobile Payment Option

SUBANG, Malaysia, July 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Malaysia Airlines has teamed up with PayPal to become the first airline in Southeast Asia providing faster and safer mobile payments in as little as two clicks on any Internet-connected mobile device. The national carrier’s MHmobile app and flymas.mobi mobile site now accept PayPal for all its domestic flights and from Malaysia to its international destinations, booked from anywhere in the world.

As an extension of this convenience, PayPal’s mobile checkout experience for Malaysia Airlines flights from other areas will be rolled out in phases in the near future.

In conjunction with the launch of this improved customer experience option, Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich will be rewarding its loyalty programme members with 500 Enrich miles per transaction made using PayPal on mobile devices from 5 July 2012 to 5 October 2012.

To commemorate this launch, Malaysia Airlines is offering promotional all-in fares from as low as RM150 for Malaysian domestic travel and starting fares of RM340 for ASEAN destinations. Customers may start booking from 5 July 2012 – 8 July 2012 for travel from 5 July 2012 – 31 October 2012 to enjoy these offers, which are not restricted to PayPal users but open to all.

The phenomenal growth of smartphones and the mobile commerce market in Malaysia and worldwide brought about this decision by Malaysia Airlines. In 2011, Malaysia Airlines saw an increase of 500% in average daily bookings via MHmobile.

According to the recent PayPal Mobile Shopping Insights 2011 study, the mobile commerce market in Malaysia grew from RM101 million in 2010 to RM467 million in 2011, representing more than a 370% jump in just one year. The mobile commerce market is also forecasted to grow more than seven times to reach RM3.43 billion in 2015. There were 642,770 Malaysians who made a purchase through a mobile device in 2011 and the median spend increased to RM500 per mobile shopper in 2011. Booking of airline tickets was in the top five mobile shopping categories for Malaysians worth RM32 million in total mobile transactions in 2011. More importantly, airline ticket booking is a top three category for future purchases on smartphones.

The Malaysia Airlines’ customer experience is further enhanced with the introduction of PayPal’s faster, safer mobile payment service. Booking and paying for an airline ticket can be done in half the time when paying via PayPal as compared to other online payment options. Customers can simply login to their PayPal account with their email address and password, then confirm the payment in as little as two clicks. To provide a more secure transaction, no financial details are stored on the mobile device and PayPal never shares its users’ information with any merchants.

MHMobile app is available on iOS and Android devices and now also on Nokia Windows Phone mobile devices. PayPal’s mobile checkout solution has been integrated with the SITA mobile ticketing system. SITA is used by more than 500 airlines worldwide.

To start using the service, customers may logon to flymas.mobi via their smartphones or download the MHmobile app to book their travels of choice via Malaysia Airlines.

Renault-Nissan to Provide 15,000 Vehicles in Exclusive International Contract With Danone

PARIS, July 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — The Renault-Nissan Alliance will provide 15,000 vehicles in an exclusive fleet contract with the Paris-based nutritional food company Danone. The first-of-its-kind deal for the Alliance provides a full range of vehicles to Danone in 25 countries for at least five years.

Danone, one of the fastest growing food companies in the world, selected the Renault-Nissan Alliance for its wide product lineup, its experienced fleet sales and services organization and its global sales footprint, which matches that of Danone.

Danone fleet managers can select vehicles from four brands under the Renault-Nissan Alliance: Renault, Dacia, Nissan and Infiniti. The product range stretches from passenger cars in the A to the E segments and commercial vehicles, including electric models. The highest volumes will be in Russia, Mexico and France.

The contract will last until 2017.

Panda-monium Hits London with the Launch of Chengdu Panda Awareness Week

CHENGDU, China, July 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — July 4th marks the international launch of Panda Awareness Week (PAW), with 108 costumed pandas performing a tai-chi inspired dance in the middle of Trafalgar Square.

PAW, supported by panda expert and TV wildlife presenter Nigel Marven, is pioneered by the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (Chengdu Panda Base), a world-renowned breeding and research base for giant pandas in Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province. PAW aims to enhance awareness and support for panda conservation and protection for one of the world’s most threatened species.

This week’s PAW activity will be taking place in London until 6th July, and sees the panda posse hosting a ‘panda party’ in Covent Garden, taking over the London Underground and visiting the city’s most famous landmarks. The 108 costumed pandas represent the 108 pandas currently at the Chengdu panda base, which plays a leading role in fostering continued growth of the giant panda population, and rescue and rehabilitation to return them back to their natural habitat.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Chengdu panda base, founded in 1987 when 6 giant pandas were rescued from the wild. Through a dedicated conservation plan, Chengdu now has the largest captive breeding panda population in the world, and aims to increase it from 108 to 150 pandas over the next 10 years.

During PAW Nigel Marven and panda experts from Chengdu, accompanied by the costumed pandas, will also visit London primary schools to educate and inspire children in the importance of saving the giant panda and how they can play a role in Chengdu’s ongoing conservation efforts.

PAW is committed to creating a long lasting legacy- it is also enabling primary schools across the UK to partake in a ‘Panda Pal’ education programme, whereby schools can sign up to receive regular updates and information on the health, well-being and development of a chosen group of pandas to foster ongoing interest and meaningful engagement between the schools in London and the Chengdu Panda Base in China.
