Deployment of an Integrated Food Safety Solution Enables Feihe International to Improve Quality and Increase Customer Confidence

SHANGHAI, July 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ —

Cognizant( ) (NASDAQ: CTSH), a leading provider of information technology, consulting, and business process outsourcing services, today announced the successful deployment of an integrated food safety solution at Feihe International, Inc. (NYSE: ADY), formerly known as American Dairy, Inc., one of the leading producers and distributors of premium infant formula, milk powder, and soybean, rice and walnut products in China.

This innovative end-to-end solution was developed by Cognizant in collaboration with Heilongjiang LiGao High-Tech Development Co. Ltd., a high-technology services company, and FoodlogiQ, a leading provider of traceability, food safety, and sustainability software. The solution enables Feihe International to trace foods, feeds, ingredients, and food-producing animals through all stages of production, processing, and distribution.

The enhanced traceability across farmers, producers, processors, and retailers provides for significantly superior quality and safety tracking, compliance monitoring, and issue resolution, which are critical focus areas for the food and beverage (F&B) industry in today’s globalized manufacturing environment. The solution also provides operational efficiencies by minimizing costs associated with conducting recalls or withdrawals, and improves stock and distribution control while aiding in the removal of unsafe food from the marketplace.

“Inspiring food safety confidence among consumers has become a business imperative for food companies,” said Xiao Guanghui, Vice President and General Manager of the Production Division at Feihe International, Inc. “We are committed to doing all it takes to address consumer concerns and meet regulatory requirements around food safety in the most accountable and transparent manner. We are pleased with the successful implementation of a state-of-the-art food safety traceability system developed by Cognizant in collaboration with Ligao and FoodlogiQ. It will help us align our advanced production technology with the highest standards of quality and safety throughout the supply chain, ranging from raw material to production processes and distribution, enabling our consumers to trace any finished product back to its source conveniently and accurately, and buy our products with greater confidence. We look forward to integrating this unique solution with our enterprise-level systems.”

“Food safety crisis is a crisis of confidence, which is leading to distrust in the food safety and quality assurance system,” said Wang Xinxiang, Chairman of Heilongjiang LiGao High-Tech Development Co. Ltd. “At present, consumers distrust the food safety assurance system because there is no way for them to know about this system and supervise food safety. Therefore, to solve food safety issue, the food trust system must be re-established. Three years ago, our company began to study the best practices of the operational and food safety system in the dairy industry. Feihe International’s food safety project is among the first traceability projects covering the whole industry chain, relying on the advanced technologies and experience of a global company such as Cognizant in the fields of dairy operation management, plant MES, food safety, and traceability system. This project not only helps consumers purchase safe products but also provides an independent food safety platform for regulating the dairy production management. ”

“We are delighted to help Feihe International strengthen its capability to provide safe and higher quality products,” said Mahesh Venkateswaran, Senior Vice President and Head of Engineering and Manufacturing Solutions Practice, Cognizant. “Ensuring food safety and regulatory compliance in the highly competitive dairy industry is a complex process and increasingly crucial to public health and consumer confidence. Our traceability solution will enable Feihe International to trace ingredients as well as track all process steps from farm-to-fridge, and make sure its products are safe, wholesome, and compliant with microbial and compositional requirements. This solution will help Feihe International improve customer confidence, grow sales, and capitalize on market opportunities, thereby reinforcing its leadership position in the Chinese dairy market.”

Demand for Expertise in Repo and Collateral Management Is Expected to Escalate in Asia

leave a comment »

2011-07-21 15:24
SINGAPORE, July 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Asian central banks are applying a lot of pressure on local banks and fund managers to demonstrate their long-term liquidity capacity levels. In Asian markets where banks and fund managers often need to manage liquidity when large portions of their local currency balances are held off-shore, complex counterparty risks need to be mitigated efficiently.

Also, the need to comply with Basel III and the new FASB standards means that sophisticated collateral management business practices will become as important for fund managers and banks as managing your banking relationships for balance sheet purposes. Many foreign fund managers and banks doing business in Asia have already moved from unsecured to secured transactions, and are managing their diverse collateral needs centrally and with sophisticated, automated tools in order to optimize the use of collateral.

Key areas traders and banks are now looking closely at include selecting the best methods in securing exposures, complying with client and regulator demands to be fully secured, understanding how collateral can be moved when and where needed on a daily basis as well as managing exposures arising from asset swaps and securities loan transactions.

Knowing what is happening in the market is fundamental, but knowing how other fund managers and bankers are strategically managing collateral to mitigate credit exposures within counterparties can be an added bonus. Collateral Management & Securities Financing Asia 2011 will bring together leading fund managers and bankers in Asia to share the latest trends in the collateral management and securities financing, and how the collateral management strategy can be designed to mitigate counterparty risks and liquidity effectively.

CSR Asia Summit 2011 Themed “Asian Growth: Global Responsibility” To Be Launched in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

leave a comment »

SINGAPORE, July 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — The ninth CSR Asia Summit, the annual flagship event of CSR Asia, will be launched at the Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 27th September 2011. Themed “Asian Growth: Global Responsibility”, the two-day Summit will take place from 27th to 28th September 2011. The CSR Asia Summit aims to be the most innovative and thought-provoking on corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Asia.

More than 400 delegates from multi-disciplinary backgrounds around the world are expected to attend the Summit to discuss key CSR issues and strategies, as well as provide new insights for businesses, governments, CSR practitioners and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Delegates of CSR Asia Summit 2011 will understand the latest CSR issues, address challenges and opportunities, learn from leading sustainability practitioners, and acquire crucial tools and resources to build sustainable business strategies in Asia.

The CSR Asia Summit 2011 is designed to address findings from “CSR in 10”, a research project by CSR Asia that provides insights into emerging trends and issues for CSR over the next decade. The research revealed that according to 80 interviewees, who are CSR experts in the Asia-Pacific region, the top CSR concern from companies in Asia is Climate Change and Water Issues, while others are Corporate Governance, Disclosure and Reporting, as well as Supply Chains.

Based on these findings, renowned speakers from local and international corporations as well as NGOs will focus on four themes at the CSR Asia Summit this year. They are:
1. Asian CSR Strategies
2. Environmental Issues
3. Community Investment
4. Sustainable Supply Chains and Food Security

An annual highlight of the CSR Asia Summit is the announcement of the results from the 3rd “Asian Sustainability Rating™” (ASR™). Since its launch in 2009, the ASR™ has built a strong track record in becoming an ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) benchmarking tool for use by Asian companies, investors and other stakeholders. It is an essential reference that has helped to add value and enable companies to integrate a sustainability dimension to their business models through the years.

Richard Welford, Co-Founder and Chairman of CSR Asia said, “With the robust economic growth of Asian countries such as China and India, the spotlight is cast on the region to start taking the lead on CSR efforts. We believe the CSR Asia Summit will provide insights as to where the CSR opportunities lie in Asia, especially for growth markets, to enable companies to model their businesses to take on CSR responsibility on a global level. The CSR Asia Summit is also tailored to empower companies to meet industry experts to exchange CSR ideas, innovative solutions and experiences. It is CSR Asia’s goal to ensure each CSR Asia Summit is an effective platform that thought leaders can benefit from to develop long-term CSR solutions or initiatives, which would help them meet the growing expectations of their stakeholders.”

In Malaysia, Bursa Malaysia will launch an Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Index in late 2012. While in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited will draft an ESG Reporting Guide which outline recommended best practices for listed companies in Hong Kong. Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) also launched its Sustainability Reporting Guide on 27th June (1). All initiatives demonstrate how governments and corporations in Asia are stepping up to take on greater responsibility to build a more sustainable world. Both have roles to play in their contributions as they build regulatory and business policies around CSR. To enable governments and corporations to make more informed decisions on sustainability, the CSR Asia Summit 2011 will cover topical issues across four different themes. Some of the topics at the Summit are “Reporting and issues management”, “Adapting to climate change – addressing the real challenges”, “Should companies invest in schools?” and “Food Safety and Stakeholder Trust”.

More than 30 speakers from a wide range of industries are already confirmed for the CSR Asia Summit 2011. Darrel Webber, Secretary General, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, and Paul Hoff, Director of Business Development, Asia, FTSE Group will be the keynote speakers at the Summit. Other opinion leaders from local and global corporations as well as NGOs have also confirmed their speaking participation at the Summit. (Please refer to Appendix for full list of Summit speakers).

Other than networking opportunities and speaking sessions, delegates of the CSR Asia Summit 2011 will get to view exhibits of CSR projects and initiatives.  Delegates also have access to the Summit’s unique “CSR Bazaar” session on the second day, where a selection of eight CSR presentations and case studies will be presented concurrently in different plenary rooms.  On the final day, delegates will be brought together in roundtables at “The World Café”, which is yet another special feature of CSR Asia Summit and a highly commended session since its inception in 2009. A table host will facilitate group discussion on the key outcomes of the Summit so delegates can enjoy a valuable session where they are able to consolidate and discuss their learning from the Summit.
