SINGAPORE, Dec. 31, 2010 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — PayPal today announced that Ustream Asia Inc. will accept PayPal, one of the world’s largest online payment platforms, on its website for its first-ever paid music broadcasting service in Japan and worldwide. The online music broadcast will be Ayumi Hamasaki’s New Year’s Eve concert titled “ayumi hamasaki COUNTDOWN LIVE 2010-2011 — do it again –“, to be broadcast immediately after the performance on January 1st, 2011. PayPal will be the only payment service available on Ustream Asia’s website for this special performance by Japan’s Empress of Pop and one of the most popular music stars across the Asia Pacific region. For more information and to buy tickets for the music broadcast, please go to http://avexnet.or.jp/ayu/cdl2010-2011/en/.

Ustream Asia explained that the tickets for the live music event were sold out quickly, so it is broadcasting this concert online to the world to fulfill the requests of fans that were not able to buy a ticket or unable to attend the event, especially for the fans overseas. Ustream Asia chose PayPal as the online payment service for this music broadcast because of its global reach and over 230 million total users around the world. PayPal is widely used for cross-border shopping transactions as it is available in 190 markets and supports payments in 24 currencies.

Andrew Pipolo, Country Manager for PayPal Japan, said, “This event is a milestone for entertainment companies everywhere as entertainment migrates online and users look for convenient payment methods, like PayPal, to access their favorite video content. Artists, performers and content providers benefit by tapping into a worldwide audience and expanding their international reach and sales with PayPal’s convenient, secure global payment platform.”

Ustream Asia integrated PayPal’s new digital goods solution with an in-context payment flow, so that users can purchase access to the streaming video of Ayumi Hamasaki’s performance in as little as two clicks and without leaving Ustream Asia’s website. In addition, PayPal users can make secure payments without entering or disclosing financial details or credit card information to shopping sites, ensuring that user privacy is protected. Ease of use, with only user ID and password required for online payment, has made PayPal one of the most popular online payment services for consumers worldwide.
